March 23, 201411 yr Author 'Lights' is my favourite song on the album, still listen to it often nowadays :D Same, for me it's Lights > Every Time You Go > This Love > Starry Eyed > Guns & Horses > The Writer (don't really listen to the rest of it)
March 24, 201411 yr Author W/E: 13/03/2010 #1: Tinie Tempah - Pass Out QzvGKas5RsU At the time, this seemed like an absolutely massive moment. The glorious debut of the face of the UK rap scene for the New Decade, and it has everything you could want for a debut single; fierce, confidence and has an all round feeling of just being epic and possibly a little bit iconic. It’s definitely the most quotable song we’ve come across so far (‘I’ve got so many shirts, I keep some at my aunt’s house’). The fact that it is his debut single and he’s announcing how famous he already is was certainly a ballsy move; he’s not requesting your attention here – he’s demanding it. And he gets it too. Now, Tinie has had a rocky journey from this point on in my opinion. The only other song he’s done since that I’ve found enjoyable is ‘Written In The Stars’ and his latest releases have left me wanting for a lot more. #8: Naughty Boy feat Emeli Sande - Never Be Your Woman -jiBFV4DSIc So, we’ve come across the second song that I have absolutely no recollection of whatsoever! Headed by future big stars Naughty Boy & Emeli Sande (who frankly seem obsessed with one another) that is perhaps slightly surprising. Sampling White Town’s “Your Woman” actually works out well here – but that’s down to the pure awesomeness of White Town and not Naughty Boy or Emeli – who honestly sounds a little bored singing this. Tired of waiting in the wings maybe? You’ll get your moment love, don’t worry So yeah, I’ve actually find myself quite enjoying this. I won’t be listening to it again in a hurry but it’s certainly not that bad at all #9: Boyzone - Gave It All Away 9n8fxrejX78 Boyzone’s golden era was a bit before my time so to speak, they released their last single at the end of 1999 when I was just four. So unlike many when their reunion came about, I didn’t have any nostalgia with them to make me feel excited about the event. I’ve looked back on their discography since of course, and I can conclude that on a whole they’re actually much better than Westlife at least. Released as a tribute to Gately who’d tragically died the previous year, it’s honestly a very touching song. I wouldn’t say I love it, but it is very nice and lyrically very fitting for its situation and makes the whole affair a lot more real and ultimately devastating. #10: Cheryl Cole - Parachute -AWoZmAxKxg Here she is, the nations sweetheart circa 2010 and Cole’s career was on fire. Judging role on the countries biggest programme as well as a solo career that would leave the rest of her Girls Aloud pals for dust. It is confusing that out of all them Cheryl was the one who had the biggest success post-band; still I guess she had the X Factor and national sympathy behind her. That’s not to disregard ‘Parachute’ though, it’s a fine pop song and probably her best solo effort to date, much superior to ‘Fight For This Love’. She’s dignified here, and though it is a love song she sounds a lot stronger giving you the impression that if she did ‘fall out of love’ she’d probably be alright. Not to mention the music video is properly brilliant as well.
March 26, 201411 yr Although I like to think I was way more in touch with the music scene then than I am now, 'Pass Out' just seemed to completely come from nowhere - checked iTunes one day and it was number 1. Then I first heard it in the now-closed HMV in Leicester Square, complete with the infamous 'Scunthorpe' line and assumed it was some sort of Chris Moyles parody of the real thing. Was somewhat surprised when I found out I was listening to the original! I spent about three months hating it, then when it basically soundtracked my entire summer I warmed to it and Tinie a lot more, today it's a wonderfully nostalgic listen. It's a collaboration he did much later in the year though that I really adored...take 1, action!
March 26, 201411 yr Also, Pass Out is one of my favourite songs ever. The production on it still feels so fresh almost half a decade on. Edited March 26, 201411 yr by G R I F F
April 1, 201411 yr Author W/E: 20/03/2010 #3: Justin Bieber feat Ludicras - Baby kffacxfA7G4 'Baby’ is probably the last song on earth I though I’d ever get philosophical about, but upon re-listen it’s actually made me feel a bit sad. Sure, this high voiced teenage Bieber was slightly irritating and ‘Baby’ is no master piece but it just makes me sad when I think of what he’s become now. Where’s this seemingly sweet and innocent kid disappeared to? Hopefully he’s still in there somewhere, but seeing Bieber so fresh faced and eager here is sad in hindsight. He just looks either sad or angry whenever I see him these days, nor is he wearing clothes but that’s irrelevant However, all of that doesn’t cover up the fact that this song is a repetitive cheese fest (and don’t get me started on Ludicras’s guest rap, does that guy ever do his own songs?). I was 14 when this was released, so I didn’t really think a 15 year old singing about being in love was a bit silly. But now I’ve grown and been through some stuff, and I honestly can’t imagine Bieber knew anything about what he was singing. I also doubt that Ludicras’s first thoughts at 13 were about how in love he was either. Sort yourself out Biebes, because for me to yearn for the days of ‘Baby’ means you really have become an annoying pr**k #9: Gabriella Cilmi - On A Mission ycmQpXWwT0c So.... File this one under songs I’d completely forgotten existed until now but I’m ones I’m angry I forgot about. ‘On a Mission’ is hilariously camp, and utterly brilliant, absurd and frankly insane. I’d take this about ten times over ‘Sweet About Me’ which I’ve always absolutely detested with every fibre of my being. But this, this is too fabulous to even have very strong feelings on It’s just.... I can’t even tell if this is meant to be serious or not? It seems so tongue in cheek but she looks so serious and into it in the video that makes me think it is serious. And if it is, then I love it even more. Come back Gabriella, and do more songs like this. #10: McLean - My Name wEx-_yLrWv8 I honestly don’t have any strong feelings towards this either negative or positive. It just kind of exists, I don’t gain anything from listening to it but at the same time I don’t find listening to it a chore. It’s just not interesting. Sorry about the crappy lyric video too, the official one wasn't the first thing that came up on YouTube and I didn't care to scroll and find it
April 1, 201411 yr Ha, I loved On A Mission, just a fun pop song, Baby actually has a decent production, it's just everything else that drags it down
April 2, 201411 yr Baby, as much as I don't like to admit it, will always be a fairly iconic track of the early 2010s and possibly still the only Justin Bieber song most of the population could actually name - amazingly it's only his second biggest hit, 'Boyfriend' outpeaked it by one place! Astonishing to think he's never had a number 1 single despite his major fame.
April 2, 201411 yr Baby is the biggest guilty pleasure EVER McLean, as Scott Mills would say, is such a "WHO??"

April 2, 201411 yr Baby was awful back then, and remains awful now~ On A Mission kinda seemed like an attempt to latch onto the dance-pop sound that was big around that time, quite jarring in comparison to Sweet About Me :o the song was a bit silly, for sure, but all the better for it imo! can also confirm i remember absolutely NOTHING about 'My Name'
April 2, 201411 yr I remember the video and it was on Now 75. I think the fact that Lemar got a Top 10 this decade is more BIZARRE.
April 2, 201411 yr 2010 wasn't the most vintage of years for music, I must admit - the start of it was definitely the worst though, dislike loads of these and barely remember any of the rest! I liked that Flo/Dizzee thing at the time, but it's aged terribly. Starry Eyed is really average compared to the singles that followed it :( I do somehow remember than McLean thing, surely a contender for the most forgettable/bland top 10 hit of ALL TIME.
April 2, 201411 yr Author W/E: 27/03/2010 #1: Lady Gaga feat Beyonce - Telephone lgpQzLPWiKY Eugh, I’d forgotten how long, over the top and stupid the music video for this song is (hence my finding of a 'radio edit' version here. That said, I don’t think the song itself is that bad at all and Gaga was on fire at this point in time. It’s honestly kind of hard to picture this as her last number one, and it may well be considering the turn her career has taken over the past few years. Quite like ‘On a Mission’ I find ‘Telephone’ brilliant because it’s so over the top and campy (though I draw the line at the video, that’s just nonsense and I believe even Gaga herself has disowned it) however I negate the need for Beyonce. I find her verse kind of slows the whole affair down a little, I’d honestly rather this was just Lady Gaga on her own Please don’t kill me for saying that Queen Bee, I often think you’re better on your own too. #6: Inna - Hot fF5DP90ult8 I do not remember this at all! I vaguely remember finding her very attractive at the time so maybe my mind wasn’t totally on the song whenever the video came on. For what it is, ‘Hot’ isn’t terrible but it lacks something that keeps it from going from a good dance track to a good one. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there’s something here stopping it from being as good as it maybe could be; I do think there’s an excellent dance track hiding in this song somewhere Inna’s voice is quite paper thin, however the song does actually build more and more as it goes on and makes for a very enjoyable last chorus. However, I do think this could get very irritating if overplayed, but luckily it wasn’t that big of a hit.
April 2, 201411 yr Author The Quarterly Review So, that is the first three months of 2010 and indeed the entire decade gone. So far, it's not that great I'll be honest. There have been some brilliant tracks so far (Example, Plan B, Jason DeRulo, Ellie Goulding), a lot of middling tracks which are neither great nor brilliant (Inna, Naughty Boy/Emeli Sande, Cheryl Cole, Glee Cast) and a few too many ones that are just downright terrible or worse, in my book, just utterly forgetful (Bieber, McLean, Florence/Dizzee)
April 2, 201411 yr I remember the video and it was on Now 75. I think the fact that Lemar got a Top 10 this decade is more BIZARRE. i seem to remember alot of people saying the Lemar song got big support from Capital FM (which in that case it does make a bit more sense, since good capital fm airplay could get pretty much any blandfest into the top 10~) -x- ooh Telephone <3 Edited April 2, 201411 yr by ∞ SEVEN ∞
April 2, 201411 yr I do remember hearing it on Capital and the like, I'd be surprised if anyone gave a shit after the early part of 2010 though. Edited April 2, 201411 yr by G R I F F
April 2, 201411 yr Telephone is one of those songs which every audience seems to love. The video was truly her peak as a commerical force.
