Tbh, after having heard Hello in full, I only like the verses. I find Adele extremely shouty on the chorus and the chorus lacks something for me. She also benefits, atm, from over-hype. It remains to be seen if, in 25 years time, she'll enjoy the same success.

I admire TT for releasing the same day as Adele. Even if they won't get to no 1, they're not running away from tough competition like most artists do.

Success or no success, I'll support TT as long as the music is good. I have hopes that with the next album they'll deliver and Hey Boy is just an one-off. Mark and Howard definitely have to take the lead from Gary when it comes to sound. There's a reason SISYL sold and TAODN didn't.

Surprised you don't like Hello, more. The production quality is fantastic, although I see what you mean about the chorus as she does seem to strain her voice in this section of the song. Adele's lower range is much better than her high range, and normally she stays within her limits.

Have to take issue with one thing Ellizabeth said: Progress tour doesn't hold a candle to the Circus tour. A small number of people may favour Progress, but for most people who saw both there's no comparison. The Circus was just about the most perfect example of a pop concert you could wish to see. There was also no comparison in terms of atmosphere. The Progress show felt flat and disjointed but the atmosphere at Circus was astonishing and the end section with RTW actually reduced me to tears, it really was that good!

Agreed, TAODN has some good music on it, but lyrically it was extremely poor. Reminds me somewhat of Hey Boy.

Circus live is the best British concert ever. Period.

I have to agree with you. I saw both The Circus (three times actually) and the Progress show at Manchester. Curiosity more than anything brought me to the Progress concert as I wanted to see what all the fuss about Robbie was (I wanted to see his solo set - but couldn't stand him for a whole show). I have to admit that his solo set was the only thing that made sense about the whole night - and I can see why his fans adore him. Personally I can't stand his laddish behaviour - but he certainly has charisma. You're right - it was too disjointed. Take That as a four bit at the beginning - just seemed very subdued and a little gimmicky for no other reason than being gimmicky. And I have to add - the robot thing wasn't a patch on the elephant in The Circus!

The Circus on the other hand - everything made sense - but in a highly enjoyable, extremely well-planned and professional way - yet done with excellent humour. It made reference to their earlier silly times (I'm thinking about the underpants thing) and at the same time - won them more fans. On the coach going back from one of The Circus gigs - there were Deep Purple, Led Zep, Black Sabbath fans (males mainly) who agreed they'd only gone to please their partners - but came away saying it was one of the most enjoyable experiences they'd had from a concert.

And having said all of that - I preferred The Beautiful World Tour!

Back to Hey Boy though. I've heard it a couple of times - no real feelings on it really - its neither awful nor brilliant. A trifle dated perhaps but then again - some dated stuff can work if the melody is good enough. Its canny of Gary though to leave his name off the writing (if true) - I thought everything this time around was going to be written by 'Take That'. Maybe Gary only wants his name attached to the good stuff and the others can take sole credit for the not so good stuff.

Gotta go now - got an online Scrabble game going on and I think the other person is cheating!

Gary's name is on it isn't it? He's listed as writer in Wikipedia and all that.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but, for once, I agree with you :D (aside from the part in bold). Gary appears to be credited (wikipedia says "by MO HD and TT - I assume Gary comes with the "TT" part, but it is weird that these 3 new songs are not all simply by TT. We have to wait for the cd to see the actual credits).

That's why I put (if true) after the sentence - some people have been saying it isn't. I wouldn't know as I don't follow what they do anymore like I once did.

BTW - I've just heard Adele's song - and it may have fantastic production values - but boy oh boy is that one boring, lazy song! If only Amy were still here - she'd show what raw emotion was. Adele's sultry (yet ever so slightly croaky) voice seems such a well-rehearsed trick now.

Milly - I can't believe I agree with you on the Adele song!!

Based on sales alone, TT would have grabbed another top 40 :( Streaming is really damaging them.

It's strange that Hey Boy doesn't appear on the physical chart. Is it possible that those sales weren't added last week?

If TT manage to get a slot on Strictly or XF, I so hope they won't be performing Hey Boy. Choose anything else - HTH, Carry Me Home, Into the Wild or anything else, just not Hey Boy!!!

Oh I agree. I don't think I could cope with them preforming the song live on TV again. The song is so cheesy and I'm astonished they all thought this would be an appropriate release. Their work has been largely mature and thoughtful up until now, but Hey Boy is frankly, dire.

I listened to BW yesterday and what a joy it was to listen to it from start to finish.

I like Hey Boy but its nothing special, and not the singe they needed to start this campaign.

Kath and Milly, ive the same opinion on the Adele song too!

If the snippet of Carry Me Home was true to the final version, I think that'll be a good song to promote the re-release
I wish I could hear a bit of Carry Me Home - I'm intrigued now. Is it a balled or is it essentially the same sound as most of lll with an electronic slant to it?

From what I remember, it was a bit mid-tempo, but it didn't have an electronic sound at all - that's exactly what made me like it instantly. Gary's voice was sooo clear, it almost sounded acoustic. Of course, there's no way of knowing how the final version sounds like, but I hope they haven't altered it much.

To this day, I regret not downloading that snippet when that studio guy posted it :(

The only thing I'd say is as Aphrodite says, let's not get our hopes up. I remember loving the sound of Don't Say Goodbye in LBDS, but then the final version was quite far from what I heard previously. Wouldn't surprise me if this was the same.

That seems to happen quite a lot. The raw demo turns out to be better than the final product. BW had the balance about right but they used one producer, John Shanks for that. With Progress and lll multiple producers have been involved, which can make the overall sound rather messy.

I too would prefer one producer as you get a more cohesive sound throughout and a consistent one. I much prefer Three to Progress but i strongly feel they need to move away from the electronic sound and go back to the sound of Beautiful World or the Circus as thats when they delivered at their strongest.

I wonder whether Take That themselves would produce their own record? Didn't Gary produce 12 months? As well as Robbie's TTC and Marcus Collins' studio album?

Jacknife Lee produced Take The Crown :)
