Posted September 2, 200618 yr This is a truly AMAZING band from Sweden, one of my favourites at the moment. Elements of Death Metal, Zep-infused Classic Rock, Neil Young/Nick Drake-style Folk Music, Metallica (often in the same song by the way..) and Christ knows what else go into making up this unique Metal band. There is nobody in the Metal scene making music quite like this, dont be put off by the length of some of their songs, Opeth are always compelling, NEVER boring, their songs often having two or three distinct and quite separate movements or parts to them. Vocalist Michael Ackerfeldt is capable of both incredibly sweet, melodious vocals and the most gutteral Death Growls this side of Deicide's Glenn Benton.... Their music is truly haunting and even when they are at their most aggressive there is an incredible beauty and elegance on display... And believe me, the are FUKKIN AWESOME live..... September 2, 200618 yr I listened to the first one. I liked it apart from the 'death growls'. At least this song shows he can sing though.

Try "Harvest" and "In my Time of Need", they're almost folk songs and you can really get an idea of how good they are at harmonies.... "Drapery Falls" is an awesome track, it has everything Opeth are about....

December 17, 200717 yr OMG I love Opeth, it's not often a band this great comes along. My favourite song has to be "The Baying Of The Hounds". XX
February 7, 200817 yr You know I bought one of their albums but I've never played it. Same goes for Moon Spell or whatever they are called. I'm just lazy.

August 3, 200816 yr I love Opeth but the last two albums.... I can't come around to them. Something is missing...
August 5, 200816 yr Author I love Opeth but the last two albums.... I can't come around to them. Something is missing... You're kidding... "Ghost Reveries" is a totally amazing album, as was "Damnation".... The new one's excellent also... I've been into Opeth since roundabout the time of "Still Life", for me, they just seem to get better and better at their art.... I've never heard an Opeth album that I was anything less than impressed by....
August 5, 200816 yr ehh, I don't know why  Don't get me wrong. "Ghost Reveries" is very good album, they always release a quality music but I don't like it that much as "Blackwater Park" "Still Life" "MARH" or "Morningrise". I would give GR 7.5/10 The last one is too new for me to even try to sum it up. Maybe after another twenty listenings. ;-) And the video to "THE GRAND CONJURATION" is silly and awful and 100% in not their style, if you get what I mean. Edited August 5, 200816 yr by Moonloop
August 5, 200816 yr Haha, they were stressed as hell in this tv performance, you can hear it ;-) Poor, poor Michael  q5Yu8r1T8vs Edited August 5, 200816 yr by Moonloop
August 7, 200816 yr Author And the video to "THE GRAND CONJURATION" is silly and awful and 100% in not their style, if you get what I mean. Well, considering that this version of "Grand Conjuration" is about half as long as the actual song itself on the album, I no longer even regard it as being representative anyway.... I think the video was done just to prove that they could do the whole "MTV" thing..... But, you're right, it doesn't sit very well with who they are as a band...
August 8, 200816 yr Have you seen them live? I had this opportunity twice but sadly not on their proper tours but on festivals. It's very frustrating but since Blackwater Park they have never had their own gigs in my country  I can't understand why because they don't have to go far. We are almost neighbours ;-). They are incredibly tight band live, pure perfection :-). And also very nice and laid back people, always find the time and willingness to chat a little bit with their fans, especially Peter was like that. :yahoo: I'm proud owner of the pic with him ;-).
