BILLBOARD: 2NE1 Sets New U.S. Record for Highest-Charting, Best-Selling K-Pop Album With 'Crush'

Billboard (March 05, 2014):

"K-pop notches its biggest sales week yet for an album, thanks to 2NE1. The girl group's new album "Crush" opens at No. 61 on the Billboard 200, selling 5,000 copies in the week ending March 2, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The set surpasses the previous best week, logged by boy band BIGBANG's "Alive" in 2012, which launched with 4,000. More impressively, the quartet managed the feat with four days of sales."

BILLBOARD: Girls' Generation Hits the Billboard 200

Billboard (March 05, 2014):

"For the first time as all nine members, Girls' Generation earns a spot on the Billboard 200 with its new EP, "Mr. Mr." The all-Korean set hits No. 110, selling just over 3,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The six-track record surpasses the previously highest-charting K-pop album on the Billboard 200. The "Twinkle" EP released by Girls' Generation - TTS, a splinter trio featuring members Tae Yeon, Tiffany and Seohyun, hit No. 126 in 2012. With 3,000 copies sold, the sub unit had held the title for highest-charting K-pop album until this week."

:D!

I knew there was a chart battle between them coming but I never expected 2NE1 would win :o #61 is fantastic and beating Girls' Generation is all the better :kink: Hopefully Korean music keeps making inroads, I really want 2NE1 to make that English album they were planning and I think the genre could easily get a hit that isn't seen as a joke if it tries.

2FLOPNE1 aren't always winning you know. In Korea, Girls' Generation dominate the album chart so it's not all lost (plus the fact 2NE1's music sound a lot more western may explain their higher sales in the US compared to SNSD).

Billboard made such a big deal of the entries with 2 separate articles, figured it was important

It is important and I'm grateful for this exposure in Buzzjack (out of the major music forums online, Buzzjack is very unaccepting of Asian language music compare to the likes of ATRL, Popjustice, Digital, etc.) so every little helps! ^_^
Oricon is just bitter that his faves lost :)

Hah, go 2NE1. Crush is a very lovely album, so good on them.

I need K-Pop to be taking off as a legitimate genre soon. Or at least just continuing make an impact like it is now.

I won't be so immature as to laugh about the utter failure of a certain inferior rival. ^_^

2NE1 are responsible for 'man boob' and for that reason alone they are better ~

(also the fact that their respective songs in BJSC are infinitely better than the shite that Girls' Generation invariably produce)

Well I hope you continue your support for 'Man Boob' for future purposes.

Listen to this it is incredible.

You should probably listen to both yeah. 'Mr. Mr' actually has a melody so it's very different to most GG songs :D
