I must admit I'm feeling very cynical about Iggy's resurgence - her home country ignores three singles and only jumps on board once the US does? I really hate Australia sometimes.

I think it's understandable. She's made her name from going to the US as a teenager and imitating channeling everything about Southern US rap to the extent where there's nothing about her performance persona that would make it easy for people to believe she is actually Australian until she speaks (except a few specific lyrics here and there). I could see why that wouldn't exactly foster much homeland support from the off (no disrespect to her by the way). More importantly though, it's probably down to awareness - I'm not sure but I don't think she did much promotion in Australia for the other singles? Anyway, now she's blown up so much globally that the Aussies don't have much choice but to jump on the Iggy train.

I guess it just annoys me that Australia finally produce a global star and they had to be told by the rest of the world to care about her :drama: You just don't get that sort of thing anywhere else, I'm sure even Lorde was successful in New Zealand before anywhere else.

That said I do agree she's not exactly a very "Australian" star but still, it's not as if people like Jessie J were ever definitively British.

My point wasn't that she may be offputting for not being definitively Australian, it was that her success has come from her immersing herself in the Southern US rap world and adopting the associated accent and performance style, which could understandably be seen as contrived IMO. Lorde, Jessie J and others generally appear more neutral (geographically) and anyway, their success is much more homegrown which would lend itself to home support and people feeling some form of ownership over them. Iggy also didn't focus on the Australian market with promotion which wouldn't have helped when there may have already been a perception of her being somewhat false.
Absolutely love that Que Sera song, just thought I'd say. Such a joyous, singalong anthem even if it is a bit cheesy.

Anyone know why Ellie was as high as #4 in the albums last week? I assume random promo etc, but nice for her to get some sales (and a new peak).

Really surprised Passenger missed #1, though it may be because I used to think he was Australian :kink:

Seems she's been touring there over the last few weeks and did some TV promo.

^ Ellie also had the iTunes album of the week, and sales are really low at the moment, so easy for her to get right amongst it. Lorde, Arctic Monkeys, Jason Derulo & John Butler Trio also had a similar discount promotion on iTunes on the weekend to explain this week's chart.

Best thing about this week's chart is that Illy's biggest hits now have peaks of #18, #38, #48 & #58. Need a new #1 single soooo badly though :manson:

It's funny to see 'Que Sera' end up being such a long-running hit. The song and group are so far entirely localised but given Australia's history as a worldwide hit predictor, I wonder if there are international possibilities for this song.

Given how it's gone here, they'll need A LOT of ads licenced & promo spots :P

It's good to see Jack White & First Aid Kit have respectable 2nd week drops, considering they've gotten ridiculous lately.

Do they intend to release an album any time soon? They haven't had one since 2011, so they are reminding me of The Wanted with their current strategy (I mean even 'Boom Boom' has no album?) It is at least nice to see Australians controlling the top, but from what I've heard their music is rather awful :P

Amazing for Nicki Minaj at #14! This could be a sleeper hit for her worldwide, it's starting to creep up in many countries now.

That's what I hope, but I don't think there's any salvaging it in the UK or US :(

It jumped up to #24 this week on Billboard (new peak), and it's radio airplay is increasing slowly but surely. I don't think it will climb back up in the UK though, but it might hang around the lower end of the chart for a while.

Hopefully in Australia it might go top 10! It's already her fourth highest peaker in AUS (after Starships at #2, Super Bass at #6 and Pound The Alarm at #10). I'm holding out hope that it beats PTA, but I can't see it going higher than around #7-8.

I think she will need to do some promo tbh. Why hasn't she done any performances? Nobody seems to want to promote their music anymore, but Nicki really needs to.

The ONLY song I like from Justice Crew is Everybody. All their other songs are bloody awful, especially that f***ing Best Night and Que Sera. Que Sera is easily one of the worst songs I've heard not only this year but in the last five years. The fact that that song is number 1 for a while really puzzles me.

Then again, Australia also has Ricki-Lee and she makes such generic, terrible songs. Raining Diamonds was alright though and Come and Get In Trouble With Me was okay until she acted really extra and desperate in the music video.

I think Sony are just notoriously dodgy with how they promote their artists; they seem incredibly reluctant to put out albums if there's even the slightest chance it might bomb, so I think Guy Sebastian & Jess Mauboy are the only ones who can get away with actually putting one out. They're especially bad with X Factor contestants, after 5 seasons, only 1 winner has put out a non-covers album. Last year's runner up has one out next month, but no news on the winner!

That said, I can see Justice Crew finally putting out an album, but only under the grounds that their next single is a big hit, and it's in time for X Factor plugging. So much wasted promo so far but I could see them charting really high with how sales are :puke2:
