Wow, finally a country that makes France's sales look good. Sales aren't terrible for the population though, I'd actually hazard a guess at the market being healthier than it is in the US!

 

From memory Canada is generally a lot more friendly to foreign artists than the US and that seems to be reflected in 'Shot Me Down' actually charting here while it's barely top 500 on US iTunes. Nice to see 'Beating Heart' too, that's another song doing far worse than it should on US iTunes :(

Remember that Canada has a tenth of the US' population, so while those sales are terrible, they aren't drastically different from the US.

 

And Canadian Soundscan sales still leak, unlike the US data.

Between Rick Ross and Ashanti, it seems Canada either likes urban music a *lot* less than the US or they're just less loyal :lol: I wonder which it is? I guess this is a bit like Ireland often not warming to British "indie" releases.

Just like the US, they like rap & hip-hop looking at the sales for those artists (School Boy Q was #1 last week afterall).

 

 

Canada doesn't have an established urban radio format like the US does. So that affects Rick Ross and obviously songs like 'Drunk In Love' and 'Show Me', but not so much Schoolboy Q because his fanbase is Internet-driven; he has yet to score much airplay even in the US although that's likely to change.

 

I'm most surprised at 'Let It Go' being less of a hit here! The Frozen soundtrack seems to have similar staying power so it's strange to see Idina having such different digital sales performance in Canada than in the US.

#15 is extremely impressive in any case, could definitely see it matching that in the US.
