Posted September 2, 200618 yr Well 'Beware Of The Dog' has leaked and what can I say? I just love it, so catchy and SO much better than 'Something About You' another top 3 placing for Jamelia without a doubt :o Please do not move this to RnB as NON of Jamelia's current material is in the RnB vein, this is pop and so was SAB so once more please do not move  Anyone after a link, ask below or PM me ;) Edited October 21, 200618 yr by Jake
September 2, 200618 yr Are you really an undercover reccie producer? :P Not sure how this is gonna sound so send it me innit. <3
September 2, 200618 yr If Jamelia is not an R&B/Soul act then how come she has been nominated for a MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) award for her upcoming single "Something About You"? I have heard a 30 second sample of "Beware Of The Dog" it has sampled the hook of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus, which itself was a "rip off" (© Martin Gore) of an old 1950s RNB Bo Diddley guitar motif/rif. So it's origins are definitely still in the R&B Genre.
September 2, 200618 yr  This should have been the first single...Its so much better than 'Something About You'!!!
September 2, 200618 yr I haven't heard either, so can I be incredibly greedy and ask for Something About You and Beware of the Dog please? :D
September 2, 200618 yr Author But she as an artist now produces pop music, her music does not sound RnB in nature, she may be nominated for a MOBO, this is is partly due to her skin colour and not the music she produces. It would be dangerous to suggest she is an RnB artist simply due to her skin colour. The song itself is entirely pop sounding in nature so I don't see why this should be positioned in the pop forum.

The best your going to get is "Jamelia describes the sound of the single as being more "experimental" than her other material as the track sees her moving away slightly from the R&B sound that she is known for." Still it's Rnb. However it's clearly good, otherwise it would be in the Rnb section and few comments made.
September 2, 200618 yr Jake, From HMV: Aug 2006 'Something about You' is the first single from UK's finest R&B star Jamelia's third album 'Walk With Me'. Jamelia describes the sound of the single as being more "experimental" than her other material as the track sees her moving away slightly from the R&B sound that she is known for. From the Sun - online Aug 26 Jamelia performed live for the first time in two years - Aug 25, 2006 Stunning singer Jamelia performed live for the first time in two years - and it seems she got complete and utter stage-fright. The R&B star was so nervous about singing in front of the cameras that she forgot the words to her songs nine times, according to The Sun. And at one point, she had to take ten minutes out of the show, reportedly to pull herself together. Wikipedia: Jamelia Jamelia, real name Jamelia Davis (born October 1, 1981), is a British R&B singer. She made her breakthrough outside of Europe in 2003, when her single Superstar went top ten in multiple countries, including number one in Australia and New Zealand. On I-Tunes you can find her under the category R'n'B/Soul. On Amazon: Styles > R&B and Soul > Modern R&B & Soul And she has won 5 MOBOs (Music Of Black Origin). None of these sites have her under the category of Pop. Her new material might be more Pop based, but I would not regard Gwen Stefani as an R&B act just because she has released a few R&B singles so why should vice-versa apply. Using your logic then back in the late 1970s when Rod Stewart released "Do You Think I'm Sexy" & Rolling Stones released "Miss You" - then they should be classed as a "Disco" act because they made a Disco record. I find your implied comment about me being racist as rather offensive. Joss Stone & Fergie (BEPs) clearly fits into the R&B category (as the likes of Joe Cocker & Janis Joplin would have been in the distant past). Likewise Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy), Living Colour, Joan Armatrading & Lenny Kravitz were/are clearly Rock acts. There colour is not an issue at all. But what genre of music they are associated with is.
September 2, 200618 yr As this topic is about the SONG which is (apparently) pop, it can stay in pop for now.
September 2, 200618 yr Author Its all good and well to tell me HMV/Wikipedia/The Sun call her an RnB star but that doesn't make it the case particularly when you listen to the song, 'Thank You' was always a very pop/RnB album, she fits into both genres easily I feel, imo at least. part of my decision to place this in the Pop forum was due to the fact it would get more attenion here but also i see the song to be Pop, imo once more. This isn't the thred to discuss this, its about the song, though I do think it makes a facinating discussion in the Music:Culture forum or some such :D
September 2, 200618 yr Please can someone PM me a link? :D I wasn't impressed with Something Ab... so maybe this will do the business. I loved the singles off her last album but never got round to buying the album.
September 2, 200618 yr Well Jamelia "Something About You" was the highest Climber on my Personal Chart this week & it is still outselling Robbie's new single on I-Tunes at the moment. Her album is on my list to buy in the near future. About the different genres of music, I think it is best summed up by the musical legend that is Nile Rodgers (Chic & writer/producer with Madonna, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Duran Duran, Bryan Ferry, Robert Palmer, Carly Simon, David Bowie, etc) "There are only two types of music. Music that is great & music that sucks".
September 2, 200618 yr Oh I like this :o the problem is just like SOS for Rihanna the song relies on the sample too much and it sounds like she wrote the song AROUND the sample (she even says "reach out and touch me" ) which isn't the way to do it imo -_- It's good though..
September 2, 200618 yr Thanks Jake! I like this - definately much better than Something About You. Unlike SOS, parts of the song sound like original - and the song flicks from sample to cover. It's very good though - although I see why it wasn't the first single.

I totally agree with that. The song does relies a little bit too much on the sample, but its still a good track nethertheless. Its a lot better than Something About You IMO.
