I fail to understand why "her name is a liability" and why everyone's going on as if it's the end of the world for her? Can someone decently substantiate this perhaps?
She only missed her chance of not having a long-running hit by not releasing a video and then by presumably firing all her team, assuming that there is no confidence in the project.

Well, like I said, she is not seen as 'cool' these days and people switch the radio off when she plays or don't give her songs a chance. Imagine if Katy had been singing Do What U Want, for example, or basically any other pop star, it would likely have been much bigger.

I think the performance artist/ pop emergencies/ hyperbole, 'ARTPOP is going to be the album of the millennium!'/ outfits thing has really turned people off her.

I personally think firing SOME of her management could only benefit her. If the situation between Gaga and her team was so bad that she could even put out a crucial music video, then things could only get better from here on out.

Generalising a bit there.

DWUW outperformed Katy's 2nd single 'Unconditionally'. Gaga is most definitely still popular. Katy and Miley both have their off-putting factors, talking points etc, in the same vain as Gaga. Okay, Gaga is maybe not as immensely popular as she was back in The Fame/Monster era but she is still very much up there as a pop artist. A #1 album and 2 top 10 hits from this era so far is still a superb achievement. The likes of Madonna or Kylie didn't have one immensely successful era after the other either, ups and downs, they happen.

In this day and age it's harder to recover if you put a foot wrong and start slipping, Gaga's just about safe for now but I do feel she's kind of screwing it up for herself which is a shame.

i've read that she's choosing between this and 'dope'

what is wrong with her?!

"Gypsy" screams #1.

Performance at the Grammy's please. And NO to "Dope".

Am I the only one who thinks 'Swine' could be massive also. Like all my friends (casual listeners, not Gaga fans) LOVE 'Swine'. Okay I know the beat and lyrics is ridiculous but that kind of EDM is so popular right now. With an intense music video, not too OTT, it could work great as well. Like something similar to the 'Scheiße' dance routine from the BTWB. OMG I'd die for that.

Artpop is yet to match Born This Way's first-week sales alone, and that's after a full Xmas shopping period. Do you really not think there's any issue at all?

Artpop has underperformed yes, but that does not make her name a liability and that it's the end of her career. We're talking about Lady Gaga here, she's still one of the most relevant pop artists around despite the underperformance of the album and she can easily turn it around. She has a huge following, and Artpop did go to #1 and its first two singles have gone top 10. Also keep in mind, Born This Way was the follow-up to The Fame so it was always going sell well to begin with. And Artpop followed BTW which is where her popularity went into decline. The sales climate is also completely different to back when BTW was released. Not looking for excuses, just laying it out there ~

Is it really performing that badly?

No but in comparison to the immense sales of The Fame and BTW, yes it is underperforming.

Yes, but if you compare the sales of "The Immaculate Collection" to "Confessions On A Dance Floor" you'd have the same argument?

Exactly. Yet people are already deeming Gaga's career as over. It's ridiculous :hithead:

Gaga's career isn't over BUT ARTPOP had not just underperformed but massively underperformed. Keeping in mind the album was up for pre-order weeks prior to album release with a lead single and promo songs, it hasn't done justice at all.

Not really, because both albums sold infinitely more than Artpop has...

It might not be the biggest bomb in history, but an album by Lady Gaga looking like it's struggling to reach platinum, and even getting outsold by the likes of Celine Dion and Little Mix, is undeniably pretty terrible.
