I meant as they did drop. :P To me it doesn't matter if it's

19-42-78-out

or 19-42-92-out

(which it most likely will)

However, #78 is a much better position to stay in the top-100 for a fourth week, and it would matter to hang in there to get that 4th week longevity. But anyway they will drop out next week, so it doesn't matter.

Oh gosh my point is quite messy but I hope you got it.

You can't say Radio 1 dumped an artist when they still play one of their recent flop singles (in this case Disco Love). They are just moving from the dance sound unless the song is already extremely popular (they are trying to please way too many people, they are so messy). They probably still play 'What About Us' every now and then I reckon. It's not like they were snubbing the group. They are just snubbing a flop single from a flop album that pretty much killed a flop era (bar 'What About Us') ... you can't really blame them.

I can't really name 'DL' as a flop single. Yes, it dropped quite quickly but it's still selling and it was released on a busy period of time. Plus, it's quite radio friendly. But this can mean they will indeed support the Sats' next single if it is interesting enough for them AND possibly if Neon Jungle flop with the next effort.
Disco Love was not a flop, hence why it still gets airplay.
I don't think we can call a single that has sold what, 130k (correct me someone, please) and has been around since October a "flop". If so then we'd be calling "Work" a flop when the only thing it flopped on was charting!

It's more like 140k now. It was 132k 10 weeks ago and has been in the top 500/600 for MOST of that time.

Indeed, "Disco Love" didn't flop. It was just an average sized top 10 hit. If it sold sub-100k, I'd call it a flop. (Hi "Gentleman", "My Heart Takes Over", "30 Days", "Not Giving Up").

But it's not a hit either, though?

It's kind of just there.

Here's the thing, a lot of their singles from them sold more than 200k ; Up, Issues, Just Can't Get Enough, Ego, Missing You, Higher, All Fired Up, What About Us. Now about 'Forever Is Over' and 'Notorious'. Let's be real, in the first case, they released it way too early after the Chasing Lights era and well, it was kind of unsual for them at that time. As for 'Notorious', it was released OA/OS which completely f***ed up its chance at being a proper hit which it would have been I'm sure, still both are around 185-190k which is really close to 200k anyway. These two are, to me, the actual moderate hits of the girls. What sold more than 200k is a hit in my books.

'If This Is Love' was their lead single and they weren't exactly going to be big right away considering they were only just starting without any sort of TV platform to launch on. 'Work' was the fifth single of a 300k selling album. We could only wish 'Not Giving Up' sells just as more!!

Then we enter into the category of flops. 'Not Giving Up', 'My Heart Takes Over', 'Gentleman' and '30 Days' all selling less than 100k. That's just awful, really. Although, airplay is to blame for these flops. Promo was okay/good except for 'Not Giving Up' and 'Gentleman' which was clearly lacking.

But 'Disco Love' is kinda "just there". It sold more than 100k indeed, but it's not even a bit close to the 200k mark like 'Forever Is Over' and 'Notorious'.

It might not be a flop, but it's not a moderate hit to me either. I mean, had it sold only 140k but actually sold loads of the album, it could have been called a moderate hit I guess, but it didn't help the album, didn't do much on its own, it didn't revive their airplay (I really think the only reason it had better airplay than 'Gentleman' was because radios hated 'Gentleman' like pretty much all the fans). Don't get me wrong, it's still one of their strongest single to date, but it just doesn't seem like a hit to me.

That's not to say they will playlist their future singles now, but I guess we will see in August and we can refer back to this.

Well no, of course, it has to fit their standards which are delusional and biased anyway, but still.

Clearly they are moving on from dance music/songs unless they are about to be big hits or are released by a new acts that are set to be big. But as for good old little The Saturdays, I really think they are expecting some pop music, most likely with more """live""" instruments. It's no surprise they are playing 'Disco Love', it fits their current (new) standards a lot more than 'Not Giving Up'.

I think Disco Love is their moderate hit also. The only difference between FIO and Notorious from DL is that they have been out for longer, so they will have slowly accumulated sales throughout the past few years. I'm sure DL will do that too which could put it at 160-170 k after a few years
When advertising The Greatest Hits - I think Disco Love needs to be one of the songs they use to advertise it. I see it as their most recent hit. People do know it and it's still selling.
I think with Disco Love, although it hasn't sold as much as their other singles have, it's becoming one of their more well known singles. I only ever hear Disco Love & What About Us in clubs and bars now, although this might be because it's one of their latest releases. Although the sales aren't as high compared to other releases, I do think over time people will know them for that song. A little bit like Love Machine with Girls Aloud almost.
Hopefully "Disco Love" will get heavily boosted by the album release. It needs to pass 200k! Imagine how big a hit it would've been after "What About Us"! :(

It would have been BIG. It did really well considering the small amount of people it reached. It was only #48 in airplay until it actually got released.

When advertising 'Greatest Hits' the singles that will be used to advertise it will be 'What About Us', 'Up', 'Ego' and 'Higher'. Hopefully it's actually shown on television - I never once seen 'On Your Radar' and 'Living For The Weekend' on TV.

Also what happened to the 'Not Giving Up' television video promo that Vanessa was talking about?

You can usually fit 6/7 snippets in a 30 seconds advert - I'd add Issues, All Fired Up Disco Love/Missing You. They better blood do an advert - it can equate to so many sales, especially with greatest hits.

6/7 snippets in 30 seconds?!

I'd rather they put in 3 or 4 in and create 2 or 3 different adverts.

That us of course if they even create them

- I remember this one when it came out. Can't forget they'll need the new single in the advert too.

How odd they used 'Wake Me Up'!

I'd imagine this it what they would use for the Greatest Hits advert:

Up

Ego

Higher

All Fired Up

What About Us

New Single

With Issues and Disco Love added if it's a longer one.
