April 9, 201411 yr Did anyone here see this on ITV tonight? A woman is sure she's recognised her mother's killer after 23 years but a blood test proves it wasn't him. Or was it? As a Dr. has he fooled the police's blood test or is he innocent? Good thriller and quite fast paced. Part 2 next Monday. I really enjoyed this ... and I'm of a like-mind - being a doctor (and a very highly commended one with connections in high places) it is possible that he could have somehow had the blood sample tampered with. Having said that - it would be nice if this program veered off and actually had him truly innocent and this be a play on how a devastating crime could have a life-long bearing on this woman's life. Can't wait for next Monday's conclusion. Its also good that we've been rather spoiled by ITV lately what with this following on immediately after the excellent 'The Widower'. I like these two/three parters - no need to drag things out over 8 weeks as in the good (but rather overrated in my opinion) Broadchurch.
April 10, 201411 yr Author Yes I really enjoyed it too Kath but hate waiting a week. Would rather Pt.2 had been next day! These aren't spoilers, just my own thoughts, but I'm wondering if he's innocent and the killer was someone else, maybe even her father and she's blocked it out. Maybe her mum was cheating. The ITV press release said there are lots of twists and turns. There was a real life case in America where a clever Dr. tried to fool a blood test by inserting a false prosthetic vein in his arm, with someone else's blood before they took the sample but the nurse suspected it didn't seem right and he was found out. Could be that which gave the writer the idea if he is guilty. Edited April 10, 201411 yr by Common Sense
April 10, 201411 yr Author I agree that Broadchurch was overrated and the story could have been told in 3 or 4 episodes, dragged on a bit.
April 16, 201411 yr I agree that Broadchurch was overrated and the story could have been told in 3 or 4 episodes, dragged on a bit. What did you reckon to the conclusion Chris? I thought it was OK (in fact - good) but could have been just a smidgen better. I thought Christine Bottomley (as Rawlins' daughter) was particularly good though. Such a change of character from Melanie in Early Doors.

I thought Christine Bottomley (as Rawlins' daughter) was particularly good though. Such a change of character from Melanie in Early Doors. It was okay but not as good as the first episode. In fact it felt like a 3 parter that was a bit rushed at the end. Yes, the daughter was the best character. Someone on DS said that it was too far-fetched that they arrested him on hearsay, from his first wife, but in real life, by arresting him on suspicion they could then forcibly take a saliva swab and DNA doesn't change with a bone marrow transplant, only blood characteristics. Some DS posters guessed that it would be a bone marrow transplant making him a chimera as there was a real life case similar too. ;) Edited April 17, 201411 yr by Common Sense

April 17, 201411 yr Author This was one of those times when an extra episode was definitely needed. Agreed, Kath. We didn't really find out why he killed her but he must have known her from being a locum GP there. He had infatuations with women and stalked them so maybe she spurned his advances that day. That could have been explained a bit more. Maybe a third episode could have had him confessing and explaining! :)

As I said - I thought this was good - but it could have been beyond excellent with another episode. It annoys me that they wasted eight weeks on Broadchurch (which could have been wrapped up in three episodes max) and rushed this far more interesting one.
