Posted April 10, 201411 yr I know we've had polls about featured artist credits before, but this one covers different ground. Do you think it's right to retroactively credit artists (*) who made a significant contribution to a song, but whose contribution went officially unacknowledged at the time? (* as in listing them as featured artists in chart record books) e.g. : Dido on Eminem's 'Stan' ; Cher on Meat Loaf's 'Dead Ringer For Love' Plus plenty of other examples too.
April 10, 201411 yr No. Don't change history. Besides, the various bodies can't even agree on some of the artist credits on today's hits (e.g "Do You Want To Build A Snowman"), how much chance do you think there would be of agreeing who should be credited on hits from 20 years ago? I pretty much agree with you, although I chose the footnotes option myself.
April 10, 201411 yr Dido was credited on 'Stan' on the album tracklist even at the time so I have no problems counting her as a feature :P I'm not sure why there's any confusion at all over 'Do You Want To Build A Snowman?' It's only available off the Frozen soundtrack and clearly credited to Kristen Bell, Agatha Lee Monn and Katie Lopez.

April 10, 201411 yr Author Yes they should do. Especially if they contribute to more than half the song. But how do you define 'half the song'? 50% of the singing? 50% of the production? 50% of the video?
April 10, 201411 yr But how do you define 'half the song'? 50% of the singing? 50% of the production? 50% of the video? Well the video isn't the actual song, so I don't know why that would come into anything?... I'd say leave the credits as they are, like with Avicii's songs, you can't just add a credit because you feel Aloe Blacc deserves one on Wake Me Up. He's not credited and that's just the way it is IMO. And when it comes to Do You Want To Build a Snowman?, Katie Lopez should surely be credited considering she's listed on iTunes. I'd take that as the most reliable source over the OCC and Music Week when it comes to whether someone's credited or not.
April 10, 201411 yr I think it could be because the Radio 1 website credits it to Kristen Bell, Agatha Lee Monn and Idina Menzel for some reason And both the OCC & Music Week omit Katie Lopez That shows that there IS confusion but it does nothing to explain WHY there is confusion (which there really shouldn't be).
April 11, 201411 yr Author It's intriguing when a poll doesn't produce the result you expected - I didn't expect so many to be in favour of retroactive credits.
