April 15, 201411 yr "Paradise" was available to buy separately. Therefore it was a separate album. And at over thirty minutes you can't call it an EP.

April 16, 201411 yr Wow, this is too dull even for Lana's standards. Lana del Rey is an "artist" who is on the level of Cheryl Cole and Rihanna to me, i.e. I feel them as manufactured pop bitches who were professionally overhyped by the media industry. They aim for a bit different audiences (with "Cheryl" being purely pop, "Rihanna" being more R&B, and "Lana" being more indie) - but doesn't hinder their nature to me. The project of "Lana del Rey" had several good songs, i.e. Born to Die and some others, as well as project of "Rihanna" had a pack of sometimes solid, sometimes not so solid tracks every year. But that doesn't mean I have any of respect to the main impersonators of those projects, i.e. Elizabeth Grant, or Robyn Fenty, or Cheryl Tweedy. I'm waiting when all this balloons start to burst, with Cheryl and Rihanna it has kinda happened already - Lana is still to come. Edited April 16, 201411 yr by V▲GIN▲ OF ▲RSE

For one, she has created her own genre (in a sense), lest we forget she writes ALL of her own music.
April 16, 201411 yr I found Lana way overhyped too to begin with. I still find some of her lyrical motifs lazy and can see why people would find her music to be style over substance. But Ride and Video Games are such killer tunes and sometimes her lazy drawl just hits the spot. Anyway I love West Coast. Very addictive which is odd because at first it seems quite intentionally left of field and inaccessible.
April 19, 201411 yr The track has really grown on me a lot in the past few days, its even got a hint of Tori Amos in there
April 19, 201411 yr Author The track has really grown on me a lot in the past few days, its even got a hint of Tori Amos in there dear god, which era?
April 19, 201411 yr Not according to the Official Charts Company - sales of the original BTD and the extended Paradise Edition are combined for chart purposes. Technicalities! In The Netherlands they charted as different albums (well they charted as 'Born to Die' and 'Born to Die: Paradise Edition'). It doesn't matter to me if this will be her second of her third album. Although, didn't she release an indie album before 'Born to Die' anyway that everybody wants to forget about?
April 20, 201411 yr Her voice reminds me a little bit of Tori Amos in this song. But it's one of her best productions and it's one of my favourite songs in this year (so far)..I'm looking forward to watching her videoclip.
April 27, 201411 yr The separate release of 'Paradise' in the US was considered to be an EP rather than a full length studio album. Technically 'Born To Die' is her second studio album (her first major label album) and 'Ultraviolence' is its follow up. ------ Steve, it looks like 'West Coast' won't come out here until 18th May after all. Not sure where the OA/OS rumour stemmed from but it doesn't seem like that's going to come true? I love Lana but I'm making a stand and not buying anything from the new album for two reasons: I bought the first album, and then was forced into either buying the extended version or forking out a fortune for individual downloads. So I did neither, this is purely greedy UK record company marketing and they need shooting down. Now the new single, which is top of the charts in Russia, and in the US Top 20, is being held back until May 18th in the UK. I was under the impression she was signed to a UK record label and got her international break in the UK. So, UK fans are being penalised for supporting her early. Purely, of course, just to get a high first week chart position. So I'm not going to buy it. So there :P

May 1, 201411 yr I still consider the new album as her second. The Paradise Edition was more album 1.5.
May 3, 201411 yr I kind of wish the audio video was the official video. I love the repeating images. The story tells itself. I bought the first album, and then was forced into either buying the extended version or forking out a fortune for individual downloads. So I did neither, this is purely greedy UK record company marketing and they need shooting down. Also not buying the new album for the same reason! If I really like the album I will buy it when the album era is (almost) over. I'm really happy I didn't buy 'Born to Die' until she released the 'Paradise Edition'. May 3, 201411 yr I have no idea what you pansies are moaning about? It's not like one or two new songs... it was an entire EP of 8+ songs.
May 3, 201411 yr I have no idea what you pansies are moaning about? It's not like one or two new songs... it was an entire EP of 8+ songs. an entire EP for £10 of 8 songs and a bunch I'd already spent £10 on. If the songs were as good as the first bunch (which they weren't) then they would have waited a few months, bunged on another 2 tracks which she was clearly working on for the new album at that time, and called it a proper album release. In the olden days they used to call these tracks B-sides and they would be bonus tracks on singles to encourage you to buy them. Pet Shop Boys sometimes still do 3 and you get them for £2 download, plus the single. Or they do a double album compilation of them, 30 or 40 for the price of one Lana Del Ray 8-track EP. Essentially, nothing to do with artistic integrity, all to do with suckering fanbase into buying the same product twice. Kerching! It's counter-productive, in the end. Fans get wise and don't buy the new albums of popstars who have bunged out deluxe editions a year after initial release. I don't think it's co-incidental that the likes of Gaga, Perry & co have much-reduced album sales after doing that. The comment I hear from friends who are casual fans (and target audience) is... "well why bother buying the album when it comes out, just wait for the deluxe version to drop to a fiver". Bang goes impetus on a hot new album and they've only got themselves to blame... B-)
May 3, 201411 yr They don't often re-package albums anymore, though. I can only think of Halcyon Days as a recent example, so you never know whether it's really worth waiting for one.
