Posted April 14, 201411 yr Hello dears, how was wondering why the wikipedia and official uk charts writes actually that ELTON JOHN and TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION album peaked 5 and 2 (!) on UK charts....but when? am I missed somethin'? 'cause I've always known that those albums peaked at 11 and 6 of the chart. Just wondering...
April 14, 201411 yr According to a Russian site Tumbleweed Collection spent three weeks at number two in February and March 1971 and Elton John reached number five in March that year. The Virgin book has the same peaks.
April 14, 201411 yr Author Really? In UK? But, for all these years never mentioned those peaks! really interesting...thank you very very much!
April 14, 201411 yr In early 1971 there was a postal strike which caused all sorts of problems for the compilation of the charts, and I think the album chart was abandoned altogether for a couple of months in Record Retailer/Record Mirror, so the Guinness Series gave the lower peaks. I believe some album charts were however being compiled by another music paper (either NME or Melody Maker) and these have been used by OCC
April 14, 201411 yr ... in recent years to plug the gap and give album in that period their true peak, I think.

As both real peaks happened in the period covered by the strike that is probably the explanation.
