April 18, 201411 yr The reason she couldn't release the album or a follow-up to that single is because the record label spent literally ALL their money on her and she bankrupted them. It left greats like The Cheeky Girls and Mis-Teeq without a record deal as well.
April 18, 201411 yr A Mind Of Its Own and This Groove are by far my favs, love them  I liked all of her singles, I find Mel C the most hit/miss of the solo spices, for me at least.
April 18, 201411 yr This Groove was great, I actually went to download it a few months ago before realising that it wasn't available. I didn't care for any of the others though and I was definitely on the Spiller side of that iconic chart battle, I even bought the Groovejet CD single even though I already owned Now 46 which it appeared on pre-release (which made it even more surprising that it beat Out Of Your Mind!).

I'm not too convinced that she was the sole reason for Telstar going bankrupt - maybe it was more of a straw that broke the camel's back situation. I think the press just enjoyed the notion that Victoria was a huge flop who single-handedly brought about the death of a label, lol. I'm sure it was a bit more complex than that. The label had big commercial failures with the likes of Rosie Ribbons as well, which can't have helped. 'This Groove'/'Let Your Head Go' was quite a big hit for the label, relatively speaking. Victoria wasn't just with Telstar by the way, she was also with 19 Recordings & was associated with BMG. I'm sure she could have pursued her music career further if she'd really wanted to, regardless of Telstar folding, but ultimately she seemingly decided to just give up. I'm personally not convinced her heart was totally into it. I think she may have had hopes of being able to achieve a solo #1 with the Double A, but when she didn't achieve this, any enthusiasm she had may have dampened after that.
April 19, 201411 yr I think she may have had hopes of being able to achieve a solo #1 with the Double A, but when she didn't achieve this, any enthusiasm she had may have dampened after that. That might be true. Though, Victoria was really keen on releasing This Groove/Let Your Head Go as she loved recording and making music videos for both songs. Achieving number 3 and almost 70k in sales was a pretty good effort, but I think she was starting to transit to fashion by then. When the label went bankrupt, I think it allowed her to pursue fashion even more. In regards to solo Spice, I think Geri has the highest sales out of all of them in the UK. Internationally, I think Mel C is the most successful, especially in Germany and Austria. Mel C's 2005 track First Day of My Life was really huge in Germany and she still tours with her solo materials, even though The Sea (her latest album) didn't sell much. Emma also had a decent run even though I only loved What Took You So Long and Maybe. I think Mel B is more successful as a judge on talent shows than her solo music career overall. Although wouldn't Mel C have the overall edge in UK record sales seeing as she was by far the best solo Spice album seller? (Mostly thanks to "Northern Star"). Northern Star did extremely well. It is interesting to see that Mel C has been doing better in Germany and Switzerland as her albums consistently reached Top 20 there.
