I'm revising my previously posted top 300 dance singles of the 90s and upscaling to a top 400. Last time I posted it there was a lot of discussion about which songs should be included or not. I find it difficult to decide on some of the songs. Please can you vote YES or NO as to whether the below should be included, and I'll go with the majority decision. If you don't know the song, either listen to it or say don't know. Thanks :)

Others that werent included in the Chart Show thread that should've been:

SHANKS & BIGFOOT - Sweet Like Chocolate (Garage)

MR OIZO - FLAT BEAT (Novelty Dance)

ARTFUL DODGER - Rewind (Garage)

DOOP - DOOP (Novelty Dance)

Basically any garage songs that are either 4x4, 2step, bassline, should be included. I'd exclude grime and urban-heavy garage though, like the So Solid Crew stuff.

You can't simply use "she's a pop artist" as a reason to exclude Cher. The decision should be based on the song not on the artist. I remember when people (not here) said "OMG Madonna is not trip-hop" when people described Frozen as trip-hop. Madonna is a person - not a genre. She operates in pop but that doesn't stop her (or Cher) making music from other genres.

RANT OVER

Well "Believe" is dance-pop, so I could take it or leave it off dance countdowns. Doesn't bother me if people include it or exclude it, along with Madonna's "Ray Of Light" or Janet Jackson's "Together Again".
Together Again isn't a dance pop record. It's a cure for insomniacs.
If we think the 90s were bad, imagine when someone decides to do a 2000s one, where near the end of the decade, in the midst of a sales explosion, everything merged into a single genre.

If you can dance to it on a dancefloor, uptempo, then it's dance regardless of any specific elements in it that may or may not come from other genres. Dance music can have any instrument, vocal-style or age to it. There's probably a minimum BPM that is down to personal taste, but every decade has dance music - they just give it fancy new labels.

Of course, no rules that you have to like or dislike any particular dance record, or that it only counts if it's credible, or veers into cheese. Cheese can be tasty B-)

I struggled with Cher and Gina G to be honest, they could be seen as pop. D:Ream in particular I've always thought of as a dance act but most could be seen as either.
