The first contest to be transmitted in colour was in London in 1968.

The highest ever UK audience on BBC1 for the Eurovision final was in 2002 at 21 million viewers.

The youngest ever winner was 13 years of age. Sandra Kim won for Belgium in 1986 and had claimed to be 15 but later admitted to being only 13. In those days contestants had to be aged at least 15 (it's 16 now) and second placed Spain demanded that the result be changed and her disqualified but the result stood.

The most unusual venue for the contest was a very large converted horse stable in Millstreet, a town in north County Cork, Ireland with a population of approximately 1,500. The 1993 contest was the biggest live outside broadcast ever attempted by Irish broadcaster RTE, who it's said requested technical advice and help from the BBC, but everything ran smoothly on the night. Contestants, commentators and other foreign dignitaries had to be accommodated in hotels in other nearby towns.

No country has ever won after performing second.

That second one is false. The Eurovision final in 1973 got 21 million viewers in the UK - I don't think 2002 even cleared 10 million.

Okay, I bow to your superior knowledge but do you have a link to the 1973 figures at all cos the 2002 fact is on several sites.

The 1973 figures are pretty well cited as it's one of the top twenty rated broadcasts of all time in the UK (http://www.bfi.org.uk/features/mostwatched/1970s.html). The 2002 fact is wrong on all of them - it got less than 8 million viewers. Also, barely ANYTHING has gotten over 20 million viewers since 2000. That we'd have apparently gotten 21 million viewers in 2002 of all years when Jessica didn't have much hype should ring some alarm bells.
