February 14, 20169 yr So good to finally have it 🙌🏼 Impossible to know how it compares to his other albums yet but I'm loving it. It's almost like all 6 albums combined in terms of music style. 'Ultralight Beam' is such a beautiful album opener.
February 14, 20169 yr it's hard for me to get past anything other than 'Ultralight Beam' right now by far and away his best opener ever :cry:
February 14, 20169 yr it's hard for me to get past anything other than 'Ultralight Beam' right now by far and away his best opener ever :cry: Sooo good. Major highlight on first listen through.
February 14, 20169 yr after seeing it live on SNL i honestly think 'Ultralight Beam' is going to become one of my all time favs from kanye, one of the most perfect live performances i've ever seen kelly price's vocals, chance's fantastic lyricism, that holy outro :cry: :cry:
February 14, 20169 yr He's just tweeted 'ima fix wolves'... Wish he'd just released it later if he wasn't happy with how it all was, really seems so rushed at the last minute which is a shame.
February 14, 20169 yr I mean TBH it is only a TIDAL exclusive at the moment with the release date being Friday. Imagine if he changes the tracklist... I mean wheres Sia on 'Wolves'?
February 14, 20169 yr I hope he adds Sia back to Wolves. The album is so good despite all this messy release and album title stuff. Ultralight Beam is amazing! Also, Waves seems to have too much Chris Brown but it's pretty good as well. The I Love Kanye track is hilarious. So Kanye!
February 15, 20169 yr feedback, fade and freestyle 4 are my faves so far. oh and living for the sample in facts. so many tracks that starts with an F on this album ;_;
February 15, 20169 yr seen a few three star reviews for this already, I am not really surprised. as much as I love it I kind of thought it may be his first album to get more of a mixed reception from critics. at least a lovely 9.0 from pitchfork as usual.
February 15, 20169 yr indecisiveness, constant changes on the supposedly 'best album of all time' (mind you, it was hardly even in the form we have it today when he called it the best album of all time so it's already not the best album of all time by default) and this hunger for attention are reasons enough to put a doubt in your mind even before you press play on the first track. MBDTF this is not
February 15, 20169 yr exactly. i think the fact that kanye has always been such a perfectionist and always seemed so incredibly on top of his craft, just how messy this campaign has been has been disconcerting to say the least. i also hate to admit, i feel like it is the album of his that he least personally shines on. obviously the whole album is his creation but on some of the main highlights (Ultralight Beam, Waves) it is actually the featured artists who steal the limelight. i know kanye has always been boastful and that is partly what makes him so great (and so kanye) but lyrically throughout this album i think he probably veers a tad too far into that territory, so much so that it almost detracts from the lyrical depth. normally they go hand in hand but i just feel lyrically this album doesn't have the depth of some of his previous work. maybe that is also caused by how much space the album gives over to it's features as well. having said that, the production on the whole work is outstanding and it is a real sonically beautiful album. 'Ultralight Beam', 'Father Stretch My Hands' Part 1 & 2, 'FML', 'Wolves', 'Waves', 'Real Friends', 'Highlights', 'Feedback' and 'Fade' are all individually brilliant and definitely rise above any of the problems with the campaign. i love the fact that he has used gospel elements throughout, as that sound has always suited him down to a tee ('Jesus Walks' being my all time kanye fav) and i love how the album seems to implicitly reference basically all of his his previous body of work at some point throughout. i feel like it's almost unfair to compare it to some of his previous masterpieces as he has set the standard so inexplicably high with records like MBDTF. this really is a superb album and will definitely remain one of the best released this year for certain.
February 15, 20169 yr Urgh this is a bit of a mess to me. When I think back to MBDTF, it was so focused. I know he's making a new album now, but this feels like Kanye's artistic side has overtaken his eye for specific detail, and it's just too many ideas and he's lost his ability to edit. Most songs had their moments but it's just a bit too all over the place for me. I actually feel like 'All Day' is better than everything that made the album.
