What aspects of horror movies scare you the most?

For me, it's what we DON'T see, all the strange noises and mysterious happenings that lead the protagonist to being scared out of their minds.

Blood and guts are cool, but it really doesn't scare me, it's just the payoff for everything else we've been through in the movie. But it might be different for some of you... so,

What gets you freaked in scary movies?

darkness and shadows, following the actors every move and just when you aren't expecting it, their friend jumps out at them, they both scream and then the friend get stabbed through the back of the neck

the grudge scares me

and bathroom mirror seens always scare me, where they close the cabinet door and theres a ghost or monster or sumat there tryin to kill them lol

i dont know, a lot scares me but that dont stop me watchin scary films :P

something else that scares me, the ultimate corny thing that could happen in a horror film, don't go in there! my fav moment when that happened is in halloween where laurie (jamie lee curtis) gets a phone call from her friend and then the phone goes dead mid sentence, so as you do, you go and inspect what happened, turns out her friend has be stabbed and chopped up and stuffed in a cupboard, her other friend is strewn on her bed and the phone call friends boyfriend has been hung upside down in a wardrobe, you could probably guess what happens next

me to, when i watched halloween, i was like, oh my god you utter cow, you left the kids you were babysitting behind, he could get them, and then you'd be in trouble, after going in the house, *mimikcing* 'oh hello, is anyone there, no, ok then ill come upstairs, la la la da da, oh my god, my friends are dead, oh dear what am i to do, i no, i'll turn round, oh cripes he's there, (the killer is her brother) oh i knew i should have helped him with his homework, (killer stabs her) ow, you mean brute, i'll fall down the stairs shall i to make your life easier (she falls down not just any stairs but the american ones you no where they go up bit, turn, up again, turn up again turn, with the white railings) ow, i shouldn't have done that oh he's still after me, i know, i'll go outside and scream help and wave my hands around like a duck, oh good, i'm finally home, an he's still following me, can he not take a hint, (locks door, as if that will help) ah, ill just sit down and continue with my knitting (yes, she actually does that!) (killer pops up from behind couch) oh my god!, i'll stab you in the mask with my knitting needle, yes he's dead, i'll go upstairs and hide just incase, (hides in wardrobe) he'll never find me here *sniggers* (and of course when you are playing hide and seek, where do you normally look first?) oh my god! he's here again, i'll get a coat hanger and stab him in the mask again (hopefully it will work just as well as before) oh it didn't work, (and as if by magic, police man/doctor/person looking for killer/most know actor, comes and shoots him 5 times and he falls out of the open window) yay! we won, oh wait where's he gone, man he's not outside, he like moved oh well

At the moment it's mainly Korean and J-Horror films that do a pretty good job of putting shivers up my spine... Especially stuff like "Ju-On" (The Grudge) and "Kairo" (Pulse). Oh, and the PS2 game "Forbidden Siren 2" is scaring me $h!tLESS at the moment as well.....
Things popping out suddenly can make for a good startle but I like horror films that can make you feel dread for extended periods or entire scenes. There are few but they exist. Suspence has a place in a good horror but it shouldn't be the only scary aspect.

If you like to feel dread for extended periods, I refer you to Korean and Japanese Horror films. Dont be put off by the seemingly languid pacing of a lot of these films, they can seriously get under your skin and stay there for weeks afterwards....

well suppose there are those people who only like the types of horror genre film that are the stalk n slash or gore type that feature lots of butchering every two minutes and heads being exploded. probably J-horror stuff wont be to their liking due to the build up, take something like Gozu which for most of the part is a Yakuza crime drama (like a Beat Takashi without the seaside  ) before it gets very bizarre later on. a total head**** of a movie!!!
