#268. Cascada - Evacuate The Dancefloor

2 weeks at #1 in 2009 (#16 of 32 for '09)

This song was massive in my area for some reason. My local radio stations absolutely loved this in 2009. It's a typical club banger of the time. But I find it really infectious, I guess. I used to think Pitbull featured in this, but he doesn't lol. But yeah, all of Cascada's songs sound the same.

#267. Mr Probz - Waves [Robin Schulz Remix]

2 weeks at #1 in 2014 (#8 of 16 for '14)

His voice reminds me of Eagle Eye Cherry. Yeah that's random. What I really like about this song, is the relaxed chilled summery tone of it. I think it only peaked around #15 on my chart, and I already regret not sending this top 10. This song is one big metaphor for a rocky relationship. They're "slowly drifting" away from each other. The "waves" represent each argument and they're pulling him away. He feels like he's drowning and the stream is pulling him away from shore. The shore being a sandy beach; which is often considered some sort of paradise (happiness I guess.) And he can only see it "when you are not around." The third verse (or I guess second since the first one is repeated) is him wishing he could do something to make it work. It's a pretty poetic with these metaphors. My only problem with this song is that it's a bit.. monotonous.

#266. Billie Piper - Day And Night

1 week at #1 in 2000 (#22 of 42 for '00)

Easily the best of her three #1's. Unlike her first two, this isn't overly childish and it doesn't have an irritating hook. This offering is much more daring. There's a certain aggressive determination to this song.

#265. DVBBS & Borgeous feat. Tinie Tempah - Tsunami (Jump)

1 week at #1 in 2014 (#7 of 16 for '14)

This instrumental version was a big hit on my chart at the beginning of the year. I just really love the drop in it. It definitely is the version I prefer. It's like "Get Up (Rattle)" and "Riverside" all over again with this song. The rap being added is completely unnecessary. And it makes ranking it conflicting.

#264. Bruno Mars - Grenade

I think what I really like about this song is dark nature of it. He'd do anything for her, but she won't do the same. The lyrics are bit over the top (taking a grenade or a bullet to the brain), but I guess I like the sentiment.

#263. Flo Rida - Good Feeling

1 week at #1 in 2012 (#14 of 36 for '12)

Is it bad that I like this more than "Levels"? So Flo Rida is one of those artists whose songs I should probably hate, but most of them I don't. I think the sample works well in this, and I like the dubstep-ness (this was before adding dubstep to pop songs became overdone.) It's just a really fun song, in the same way "Club Can't Handle Me" was.

#262. Rita Ora - How We Do (Party)

1 week at #1 in 2012 (#13 of 36 for '12)

I'll always remember the Radio 1 edit of "party and party and party and party and party" I randomly like the "Cause when the sun sets baby on the avenue" line for some reason. It's a good hook I guess. I just find this song really catchy. Though it is a "Last Friday Night" sound-a-like.

#261. Christina Aguilera - Beautiful

2 weeks at #1 in 2003 (#14 of 22 for '03)

The story goes that Linda Perry wrote this for P!nk but gave it Xtina instead and that pissed P!nk off, and P!nk stopped working with Linda afterwards. Anywayz, this is a very stark contrast to the debut single from this album; which we'll get to later. For someone that isn't that fond of Christina's work, especially the last couple of albums, I'm surprised it's taken me this long to finally eliminate one of her #1's. I don't hate this, but it's my least favourite of the lot. This song has a clear universal message. I don't even need to explain it. And as an empowerment anthem, it's effective and definitely relateable.

Personally I find Good Feeling pretty terrible. It was a completely unnecessary song & was way too overplayed.
Never liked 'Beautiful' all that much if I'm being honest. Probably my least favourite single from the whole 'Stripped' era now I think about it

#260. Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake - 4 Minutes

4 weeks at #1 in 2008 (#9 of 20 for '08)

Madonna, she used to always set the trends. But with this song (and the respective album), I feel like this when she started to follow the trends. Timbaland was the hottest producer at the time, producing all those hits for Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, etc.; along with the massive "The Way I Are" and "Apologize." Going into 2008, he was still very much a hot commodity. Madonna working with him at this point just seemed like hopping on the latest trend. What's interesting about this song is that there's only two verses and the chorus is only sung twice. But yet it manages to be 4 minutes long anyway. This song features some loud horns, that almost drown their voices out, especially Madonna's. She's pretty inaudible compared to JT here. I mean to the point where Madonna feels like a feature on her own song. I do like the play on words of "don't be a prima donna", though. This might be my second least favourite lead single of hers after "Gimme All Your Lovin'".

#259. Chef - Chocolate Salty Balls (PS I Love You)

1 week at #1 in 1998 (#16 of 30 for '98)

Possibly the most hilarious #1 of my lifetime? If only this was the Christmas #1. I used to be a big South Park fan, along with the Simpsons. And both of them had a UK #1. The latter missed my lifetime, though. However "Do The Bartman" is AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. It came about before The Simpsons really found their groove as a TV show, and it was when the show was very Bart-centric. The song itself is just lame, and made to appeal to children, which went against the point of the show in the first place. "Chocolate Salty Balls", on the other hand, captures everything about South Park perfectly. And why I loved the early seasons of that show so much. The oddball humour of them. So I know the context of this song and I get the references. It was hilarious within the episode; though it's hard to carry the joke for a full 3:45 version.

#258. Gareth Gates - Spirit In The Sky

This is such a guilty pleasure of mine. It's just so gimmicky and camp. And of course, there's a sitar solo! I'm not going to pretend this compares to the Norman Greenbaum version, because it doesn't, but that doesn't stop my enjoyment of this. Better than a lot of the other Comic Relief singles, that's for sure.

#257. The Wanted - All Time Low

1 week at #1 in 2010 (#11 of 34 for '10)

Oh, The Wanted. This was one of the first songs I discovered when I first looked at the UK charts. They have a lot of dirge in their discography (cough "Walks Like Rihanna"), so I'm glad their two #1's are two of their best songs. "All Time Low" always lacked a little something for me, but it's still decent.

#256. Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris & Chrome - Dance Wiv Me

4 weeks at #1 in 2008 (#8 of 20 for '08)

I'll admit I'm unfamiliar with Dizzee's work pre-2008, but this was his big breakthrough. Calvin's production really makes this song, as does his singing the chorus. His productions back then had a certain quirkiness to them that I really liked. Like the "cha-ching" sounds.

#255. Westlife - Uptown Girl

1 week at #1 in 2001 (#14 of 30 for '01)

This isn't anywhere near as good as Billy Joel's version, but screw it, it's Westlife doing an UPTEMPO song, so I'm okay with them covering this! And it's easily my favourite of all their #1's. Though, unsurprisingly, none of their #1's made my top 250. "Uptown Girl" is one of the catchiest songs ever made, and one of my favourite 80's songs. It's hard to really screw it up.

Edit: This is also the last Comic Relief single in this list. Might be my favourite Comic Relief #1, but not overall. That'd belong to The Saturday's "Just Can't Get Enough".

#254. David Guetta feat. Akon - Sexy B**ch / Chick

1 week at #1 in 2009 (#15 of 32 for '09)

So this is a typical 2009 club banger. But what sets this song apart, is that Akon notices that this girl is classier than the girls he usually picks up (she's unlike your neighbourhood.. er.. gardening utensils), and he wants to call her something that won't be seen as disrespectful. So what does the smooth gentleman that is Akon call her? Oh yeah.. "a sexy b**ch" Like... fail. I just find that hilarious, whether that was intentional or not. And it loses all meaning with the radio edit of "Sexy Chick".

#253. Pato Banton feat. Ali & Robin Campbell of UB40 - Baby Come Back

4 weeks at #1 in 1994 (#5 of 15 for '94)

Ooh UB40 putting their names to something decent for once. :P This is one of my favourite of those 90's reggae songs. I hated it when I first heard it, though, but it's just too infectious to dislike.

#252. S Club 7 - Never Had A Dream Come True

1 week at #1 in 2000 (#20 of 42 for '00)

Sometimes I feel like this song just drones on and on, but sometimes I just really like cheesy ballads like this one. Still puzzled as to why this is their US hit, though.
