June 28, 201411 yr Author #484. Oasis - All Around The World 1 week at #1 in 1998 (#26 of 30 for '98) MNzI7bCZNoo What's my main problem with this song? Oh yeah it meanders on for NINE MINUTES. I don't necessarily hate long songs if they're kept interesting for their entire duration. "November Rain" by Guns N Roses is the perfect example of doing that. This on the other hand; well.. about 3 minutes in, and you've pretty much already heard the entire song. And they are a decent 3 minutes. But after that, it goes bloody nowhere for the remaining 6 minutes. It was like they were trying to create their "Hey Jude" moment, but it's lacking one big strong hook to carry it for that long. It just ends up feeling rather pretentious.
June 28, 201411 yr Author #483. Boyz II Men - End Of The Road 3 weeks at #1 in 1992 (#7 of 8 for '92) zDKO6XYXioc This spent an agonizing 13 weeks at #1 in the US. I can appreciate the desperation in the lyrics, but this song just drags on and on and on for me, and there's something a bit cheesy about it. "Motownphilly" is probably my Boyz II Men song lol. I don't care for their 136 dull ballads that much (and they all spent like 3 years at #1 in the US).
June 28, 201411 yr Author #482. Ja Rule feat. R. Kelly & Ashanti - Wonderful 1 week at #1 in 2004 (#22 of 29 for '04) QVXE1EzMrfw Talk about an irrelevant #1. Debuted at #1 with 23,000 copies and spent 5 weeks in the top 40. So this was like the 305th time Ja Rule and Ashanti were in the same song. And R. Kelly was thrown into this for some reason. In my opinion, "Always On Time", "Livin' It Up", "Mesmerize", "What's Luv", and "Foolish" (to name a few) were much more definitive songs of, what I like to call, the "Murder Inc era" than this song. But none of those went #1! Much like "Ain't Nobody"; this is just sooo forgettable. It has a good beat, though.
June 28, 201411 yr Author #481. Eminem - Just Lose It 1 week at #1 in 2004 (#21 of 29 for '04) 9dcVOmEQzKA This is basically Part 3 of the "Real Slim Shady" / "Without Me" saga. We'd have to wait another 5 years for Part 4, though. So another lead single involving Eminem dissing everything in pop music. Except this time it's really tired and he doesn't offer anything new. There's a lot of Michael Jackson references in this, and honestly, dissing him in 2004 was a bit too easy and obvious. The "AHHH AHHH AHHH" parts are kind of irritating, too.
June 28, 201411 yr Poor Geri Halliwell. :( "Mi Chico Latino" and "Lift Me Up" were in my top 30 favourite UK # 1 singles (from 1952 to 2012)
June 29, 201410 yr Author #480. Ciara feat. Petey Pablo - Goodies 1 week at #1 in 2005 (#21 of 25 for '05) YtC92pzp5vw I've never liked this (and I somehow had never heard this song before I started following charts). I honestly find it a bit boring. I much prefer "1, 2 Step" and "Oh". I don't like the whistley noise throughout in this. And I hate the "You may talk slick; Tryna hit part" where she goes into a weird voice. Edited June 29, 201410 yr by n4yr
June 29, 201410 yr Author #479. Beyoncé feat. Jay-Z - Déjà Vu 1 week at #1 in 2006 (#21 of 24 for '06) RQ9BWndKEgs All hype no substance. Bey and Jay teamed up once again for the lead single from her 3rd album. But it doesn't have the same magic that "Crazy In Love" did. For a song that tries hard to be a stomping catchy song, it really falls flat. And her voice gets annoyingly shouty in the bridge.
June 29, 201410 yr Author #478. All Saints - Under The Bridge / Lady Marmalade 2 weeks at #1 in 1998 (#25 of 30 for '98) CkXsYjSLbKA After the massive success of "Never Ever".. they follow it up with a double-A side of cover songs. Yay. "Under The Bridge" is one of those songs that doesn't need to be covered. The Red Hot Chili Peppers version is about drugs. I feel like the context and meaning of that gets lost in All Saints' version. But I commend them for having the courage to take on a song like that. You just know rock fans are going to drag it through the rails. "Lady Marmalade", on the hand, is much better. So I'm linking that one instead. Doing a song with a sexual theme is much more in their element. And it at least sounds noticeably different from the original. But it's missing a certain something that would make it a jam. Of course, a far superior version comes about 3 years later which has that certain something.
June 29, 201410 yr Author #477. Owl City - Fireflies 3 weeks at #1 in 2010 (#28 of 34 for '10) psuRGfAaju4 I always felt in the minority disliking this. I guess I just find it really cheesy? Especially the lyric "'A thousand hugs from ten thousand lightning bugs." I don't know. It just doesn't do anything for me. Edited June 29, 201410 yr by n4yr
June 29, 201410 yr Author #476. Katy Perry - Part Of Me 1 week at #1 in 2012 (#31 of 36 for '12) uuwfgXD8qV8 By far her worst #1 (even including her US ones.) Sounds like an unfinished demo. Probably because it pretty much was an unfinished demo. This song is just soooo lazy and Katy-by-the-numbers. It sounds like all of her Teenage Dream singles mixed into one. This production is beyond basic. The only thing I like are the "no"'s, which add a bit of catchiness. I remember really dreading her re-release at the time. 6 singles was enough for me from that album.
June 30, 201410 yr Oh no, Déjà Vu would easily be in my top 100  But it's funny how she tried to recreate Crazy In Love and titled it Déjà Vu
June 30, 201410 yr I just have laugh at this. It's so obvious that she's capitalizing on the 1999 Latin pop explosion. It's just such a silly song; and it doesn't even seem like it's supposed to be silly. I can't take it seriously. It's just so blatant with the throwing in of Spanish lyrics and the "ay-ay-ay"'s. She's explaining her longing for this Latin boy. But why does she care so much that he's Latin? Like why does she find it necessary to make a song pointing that out. It's not explained very well. It does have a certain catchiness though, so that saves it from being any lower than this. She's half Spanish from her mother's side. ;)
June 30, 201410 yr Author ^ I.. probably should've done my research on that  #475. The Pussycat Dolls feat. Busta Rhymes - Don't Cha 3 weeks at #1 in 2005 (#20 of 25 for '05) YNSxNsr4wmA It's a song that requires a lot of confidence to make. It's a very bold statement. They're being a tease and bragging about it. It paints a very plastic and superficial image for them. I'm not trying to be judgemental by saying that, if they want to sleep around, that's their prerogative. But this song is just too trashy for me; I guess you could say? It's a hard song for me to explain my dislike of. Also, Busta Rhymes is pretty useless in this.
June 30, 201410 yr Author #474. Sam Smith - Money On My Mind 1 week at #1 in 2014 (#15 of 16 for '14) K0G9T5Bnjlc It's simply saying he makes music for the love of making music and not just for the money. Lyrically, I find it a bit lacking. Especially the line "When I go home; I tend to close the door".. um how enlightening. I don't like the way he sings certain parts, especially the "money on my mind" refrain. It's like he's trying to showcase all the tricks he can pull off with his voice, but it just doesn't mesh well. The production is decent, though.

June 30, 201410 yr Author #473. McFly - Star Girl 1 week at #1 in 2006 (#20 of 24 for '06) VX8K2Y6hiPE This song was written about a fantasy of falling in love with an alien. Don't get that theme in a lot of #1 records. It's really corny, especially with all the space references.
June 30, 201410 yr Author #472. Westlife - Fool Again 1 week at #1 in 2000 (#35 of 42 for '00) H4BB9eGUEaE It's a bit nothingy and Westlife-by-the-numbers. I really have nothing else to say on this one lol.
June 30, 201410 yr Author #471. Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame 2 weeks at #1 in 2001 (#25 of 30 for '01) aztY_fpjJeQ Yeah... no. Works better with The Bangles adding their powerfulness and dramatic-ness to the song. Atomic Kitten takes away all of that, and it's just karaoke. But at least it's not a ballad cover song.
