July 4, 201410 yr Author #453. Billie (Piper) - Girlfriend 1 week at #1 in 1998 (#24 of 30 for '98) YECHW8BxqNg I don't know, I find it kind of boring and childish.
July 4, 201410 yr Author #452. Destiny's Child - Survivor 1 week at #1 in 2001 (#24 of 30 for '01) Wmc8bQoL-J0 I love "Say My Name", "Jumpin' Jumpin'", "Bootylicious, and "Lose My Breath", but I really dislike both their #1's. I hated this in 2001. I found it so annoying. It's a song full of over the top yelling. I don't like the "oh oh oh.." breakdown or the background "what's". Is the "You thought I wouldn't sell without you; Sold 9 million" line supposed to be shade towards the two members that departed the group? In fact, the entire song can be taken that way. I find it funny that they say "I'm not gon' blast you on the radio... I'm not gon' hate on you in the magazines... You know I'm not gon' diss you on the internet"; when they decide to dedicate an entire song to this person instead.
July 4, 201410 yr Author #451. Take That - Sure 2 weeks at #1 in 1994 (#11 of 15 for '94) h5u_YDvhkYo Pretty boring. Never knew a sexual song could sound so bland.
July 5, 201410 yr Author #450. Billie (Piper) - Because We Want To 1 week at #1 in 1998 (#23 of 30 for '98) D_XI_290cfw It's catchy, but also pretty bratty and irritating, especially that chorus.
July 5, 201410 yr Author #449. Matt Cardle - When We Collide 3 weeks at #1 in 2010 / 2011 (#26 of 34 for '10) mYLycKoC0uA I think he does a pretty decent job with this song, and it's one of the better winner's singles. But it still follows the same formula for them, and it lacks enough oomph for me to like it as much as the three that are left.
July 5, 201410 yr Author #448. Peter Kay's Animated All Star Band - The Official BBC Children In Need Medley 2 weeks at #1 in 2009 (#27 of 32 for '09) Xu1azebTN0k Such a clunky crediting to tag. It's cute, I'll give it that. And I like most of the songs that are used in the medley. The "Jai Ho" part makes me laugh for some reason. The biggest problem is that this song does not work at all if you're not watching the video.
July 5, 201410 yr Author #447. Mark Morrison - Return Of The Mack 2 weeks at #1 in 1996 (#19 of 24 for '96) uB1D9wWxd2w His voice is so ANNOYING. But I really like the beat (and it takes me right back to my childhood). And it's so undeniably catchy. I'm conflicted.
July 5, 201410 yr Author #446. Jason Derulo - Don't Wanna Go Home 2 weeks at #1 in 2011 (#25 of 30 for '11) 2CGF_Z3yZAo The "let's see how many songs we can sample in one song" song. We have Robin S, The Banana Boat, "Get Low", and who knows what else. Normally, I'd find this song just plain irritating on the ears. But for some reason I don't mind it too much; but it's still far from being good. Jason is really forceful when he sings this; somewhere between confident and arrogant. He's pretty sure of himself here. Declaring things like "b***h I'm a star," and he won't leave this club no matter how late it gets. I think security might say otherwise. I found this a pretty surprising #1 at the time as it wasn't anywhere near this big in the US. Edited July 5, 201410 yr by n4yr
July 6, 201410 yr Author #445. Puff Daddy & Faith Evans feat. 112 - I'll Be Missing You 6 weeks at #1 in 1997 (#18 of 24 for '97) mM0-ZU8njdo This song has always rubbed me the wrong way. I've always felt like it was a complete and utter cash-in. I'm not saying Sean Combs didn't suffer grief from the loss, I'm sure he did, but it just comes off as him using the publicity of 2Pac and Biggy's deaths as an opportunity to score a major hit. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's always the impression I got. I don't find this song very genuine. It's reinforced by the overall laziness of the song itself. The lyrics are fairly simplistic, and it sticks tightly to a well known sample. And each verse ends with the title of Biggy's posthumous album. Lovely.
July 6, 201410 yr Author #444. Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne - Changes 1 week at #1 in 2003 (#16 of 22 for '03) HIWjTfqZ7rc There was a point when I kinda liked this, but it continues to fall in my rankings. This was originally a Black Sabbath song from 1972, and Ozzy reworked it 31 years later as a duet with his daughter. It's about about how their father / daughter relationship has changed now that Kelly has grown up. It's overly sappy and overly sentimental. Which, you know, is exactly how this family acted on their reality show at the time! :P Ozzy's vocals don't really work in a stripped down ballad, and really don't flow well with Kelly's. The song goes nowhere and doesn't build to anything. The more I listen to it, the more tedious it becomes.
July 6, 201410 yr Author #443. One Direction - One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks) 1 week at #1 in 2013 (#24 of 30 for '13) 36mCEZzzQ3o I'll admit it - the fact that 1D sings this might have been the only reason why I ever liked this version in the first place. But it burned on me pretty quickly and I really can't rank it much higher than this. It's not anywhere near as good as the original, obviously. Blondie's raspy vocals make the song. They're full of determination. She makes you believe she's going to get you.. and you're almost scared to stop her. 1D's version: well, it's catchy enough, but it doesn't capture any of that. The mash-up of "Teenage Kicks" does flow with it well, though. And the video has its moments.
July 6, 201410 yr Author #442. 5 Seconds Of Summer - She Looks So Perfect 1 week at #1 in 2014 (#14 of 16 for '14) X2BYmmTI04I The "HEEEEEY-EH-EY" hooks work well. And it's that catchiness that made me chart this so high in the first place. But I'm so over this song now lol. Odd how it's titled "SHE looks so perfect", yet the lyrics are gender neutral (yes, they do indeed sing "YOU look so perfect standing there.." and not "she".. which I find interesting.) But needless to say, that chorus is cringe. If it wasn't for the American Apparel reference, I wouldn't mind so much. That line is about how you know this person is the one because they look so perfect when they wear your clothes. It's an odd way of putting things, but I get where they're going with it. But, like I said, CRINGE. And what does "I'm so down" supposed to mean, anyway?

But, like I said, CRINGE. And what does "I'm so down" supposed to mean, anyway?I don't think the intent was to make it gender-neutral. They're just singing to her in second-person the same way they do in the verses (e.g. "Would you wanna run away too, 'cause all I really want is you"). Or maybe I'm putting more thought into this than they did :P. Have you ever heard someone say "I'm down" or "Are you down"? For example 'Down' by Jay Sean. Urban Dictionary to the rescue :magic: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=I'm+down Still absolutely loving the commentary!

July 7, 201410 yr Author #440. So Solid Crew - 21 Seconds 1 week at #1 in 2001 (#23 of 30 for '01) g7VhofoV3qs I guess it's cool to see a song like this go #1 in 2001, but it does nothing for me. Typical bragging rap song; with an annoying chorus and not much in the way of hooks.

July 7, 201410 yr Author #438. JLS - Everybody In Love 1 week at #1 in 2009 (#26 of 32 for '09) tSryWcRD_tw So boring and basic; though inoffensive. Boring production. "Everybody in love, go on put your hands up" defines lazy, too simplistic, lyrics. I remember they tried to launch JLS over here with this song and it went absolutely nowhere lol. July 7, 201410 yr Author #437. Lily Allen - Somewhere Only We Know 3 weeks at #1 in 2013 (#23 of 30 for '13) mer6X7nOY_o This one keeps falling in my rankings too. The song itself is gorgeous and can really strike an emotional chord. I just imagine myself walking through an empty area, in utter loneliness, missing someone/thing that I love(d), and missing the way things used to be. But Lily's rendition is a bit boring and doesn't have enough emotional pull to it. And her voice isn't made for a stripped down piano ballad. I'll even admit it sounds horrendous in that "oooooh" bridge, and whenever she says "talk". I love Lily Allen, but this is one of my least favourite songs by her.
July 7, 201410 yr Author #436. Atomic Kitten - The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling) 3 weeks at #1 in 2002 (#23 of 29 for '02) u8CMsQ-p1ls Welp, at least it's better than the Bangles cover. Generally, I find Atomic Kitten to be such an uninteresting girl group. This video where they're just so overly happy the entire time reinforces that. They just seem so disconnected with the song. I like the added "Get The Feeling" bit because it at least adds something different. But, despite being upbeat, it's still a boring cover song. Though I do like the "a moment's pain for a lifetime pleasure" lyric for some reason.
