Ed Sheeran will release his second album "x" in the US on June 24th, but how much will it sell in its first week?

Here's what you need to know:

  • Tracklisting

    1. One

    2. I'm A Mess

    3. Sing

    4. Don't

    5. Nina

    6. Photograph

    7. Bloodstream

    8. Tenerife Sea

    9. Runaway

    10. The Man

    11. Thinking Out Loud

    12. Afire Love

    13. Take It Back (deluxe)

    14. Shirtsleeves (deluxe)

    15. Even My Dad Does Sometimes (deluxe)

    16. I See Fire (deluxe)

    17. All of the Stars (edsheeran.com exclusive)

  • "+" debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 in June 2012 with sales of 41,744.
  • "+" has sold 830,000 to date.
  • "The A Team" from "+" peaked at #16 on the Hot 100 and was #75 on the Billboard Year-End Chart.
  • "Sing", the first single from "x" debuted at #15 on the Hot 100. It sold 123,000 in its first week and has so far peaked at #13.
  • A staggering 7 instant grats have been released from the album, including "Bloodstream", "Afire Love", "Thinking Out Loud" and "Don't". These have contributed to Ed currently owning 6 of the top 20 songs on iTunes.

So, how much will "x" sell in its first week in the US?

At LEAST 100k.

He's got 6 tracks in the iTunes Top 20 at the moment.

But I reserve the right to make my guess later

Personally I think given he's arguably outperformed all three of Lana, Sam and Linkin Park on iTunes pre-orders, it's pretty much impossible for him NOT to beat their first weeks. With Lana's predictions maxed out at 190k, I see him storming past 200k. It's difficult to predict that because 200k is almost a quarter of his last album's sales and first weeks that big in proportion to the sales of a prior album are VERY rare, but Ed does have quite the fanbase.

I'm going with 230k. Second biggest first week this year, or am I forgetting someone?

Eric Church opened with 288k with 'The Outsiders' (and Frozen did a non-opening week of 259k).

Agree with your post. Assuming he has some performances lined up on the usual spots, I'm going to be even more optimistic and say 305k.

39k if he's lucki at this rate

This isn't the UK (not sure what's gone wrong for him there), I don't think he'll go ignored in the US.

I'd say not a lot, considering he has 5 songs in the top 10 and 7 in the top 20 at the moment. This era's going to be huge for him on both sides of the Atlantic. I'd say an opening of 275k in the US (and I think he'll comfortably score the biggest album opening week this year in the UK too).

Unfortunately I think you've fallen victim to Umi's very subtle brand of trolling :P.

His instant grats aren't doing atrociously but they've been quite frontloaded and his pre-orders are very poor. I already made this comparison in the UK chart forum but his album's performance on iTunes to date is no better than that of Alexandra Burke's last album and we all know how that ended up doing.
