Manchester City really chucked away a great opportunity yesterday against Burnley!

They did, but I think that shows the improvements Burnley have made, and also the effect of injuries on the squad.

I still think City will win the League. This Chelsea team is good, but they're moving more to classic Mourinho tactics. Be interesting how they fare in the four competitions they're in.

We've finally got a managerial merry-go-round  These Newcastle rumours are utterly hilarious, I really do feel sorry for their fans as it must be awful!

Its on the BBC site now too, end of an era for Liverpool! Could help the team, they've been reliant on Gerrard since at least 2004.

Part of me can't forgive him for the 2006 Cup Final though :puke2:

According to Sky Sports sources Steven Gerrard is leaving Liverpool to play in the MLS next season.

He's not the player he once was, but on a selfish aspect I am gutted. Top player, definitely up there with the best players of this generation. Sad to think he won't be a one club man, but unfortunately his legs just don't work like his body, and he's really not suited to the Liverpool style of play. Anfield will be rocking for those final couple of home games, thankfully he's off to the MLS - I couldn't handle him doing a Lampard!

OH and does someone want to get back that title off of Chelsea that everyone (but not me :D) gave them in September? :D

That's a massive over statement, the only years he really carried the team were 04-06. He single handedly ran Liverpool then. Every club relies on their top players, you take them away and they're much weaker.

I suppose you're right

Its interesting though that while Lampard was phased out towards the end of his time at Chelsea, Liverpool still rely on Gerrard to play almost every match. Surely that holds the club back?

It was a rather good goal though.

His slip last season partially redeemed that fucking goal.

He's shown far less loyalty than you'd expect from a one-club man so only fitting that he jets off for a couple of years.

We don't rely on him at all, that's the thing. On a technical level our performances are much better without him. Take today for example, he scored two penalties, but he just doesn't have the legs anymore and it leaves to gaping gaps. His athleticism left him a while ago, and he's not disciplined enough to play the role of a the new age central midfielder. But his set pieces, and hollywood balls are irreplaceable.

End of the story is he wants to play, but you see the media uproar when he doesn't. The Premier League is too fast paced for him to play 90 minutes every week, and he'll be 36 (I think?) by May. Part of this is Rodgers' fault because I think he's managed Gerrard poorly this season. And such a poor start to the season has meant he's had to, because he can't afford the luxury of having the media/fans have further reason to bring the daggers out.

Gerrard has been considered unstoppable for years; possibly to the detriment of the team. The best teams always have capable backup but no one has been capable of replacing Gerrard for years.
It was a rather good goal though.

Our name was on the Cup that year :( Our two most successful managers died that season (Ron Greenwood and John Lyall) and we played Premiership teams almost the whole road to the final.

The whole team played excellently in the final and Gerrard definitely saved them that day :(

Best Cup Final since the 80s easily.

Disagree entirely, maybe 4-5 years ago, but certainly not now.

You can't replace a player like Gerrard, they're a once in every 50 years player.

There have been times though when he was in bad form or carrying a knock or in need of a rest but Liverpool would play him just because its Gerrard.

All very true but that doesn't alter the fact that Gerrard scored a great goal to make it 3-3. It's a shame extra time was rather disappointing when compared with the first 90 minutes.

Absolutely yes, 4-5 years ago. Not now. He's been mismanaged this year by Rodgers imo, but that's for PR reasons more than anything.

As for the FA Cup final, sure it must be annoying if you're a West Ham fan, but isn't that just football summed up for you? Sometimes something extraordinary happens, and you just have to accept the beauty of it. Certainly the most memorable final of my lifetime, and that Gerrard goal is the second best he's ever scored. That was Gerrard at his peak.

I remember watching that match live on TV and as a Man Utd fan I was so pissed when Gerrard scored that last minute volley to make it 3-3.

The bottom three all winning, I don't even know who will get relegated this year now.

I'm expecting the three teams who were promoted last year (Leicester, QPR and Burnley) to get relegated now although Burnley are on brilliant form at the moment and Leicester seem to be picking up themselves. I do think this could be the year Sunderland finally go down though.

It's all so close Everton who are 12th are only 3 points ahead of 18th.

Everton are almost certain not to be relegated. They'd be the best group of players to go down since West Ham in 2003 and Martinez is a 100% better manager than Glenn Roeder

I still think Burnley will probably go down and Leicester too. I'd love to see Aston Villa go down as they're the most consistently depressing team in the league! Quite like Sunderland, but they've been in the league for years without ever really threatening to achieve anything.

I predict Hull to go down - they made terrible signings in the summer that derailed their team spirit from last year.

Everton are diabolical. They were actually quite good yesterday against City, shame they couldn't have played like that last spring the the greatest girl band in the world! Everton have come circle and really are Wigan. Made some awful decisions in the summer with the transfer kitty.

As for who goes down, well QPR can't survive on their home form only. I think it will be really, really close again. Palace & West Brom have got managers that know what they need to do Hull need Jelavic to stay fit to stay up. Leicester & Burnley have hit some form. I truly hope Villa get relegated. But I think we could be looking at a scenario on the final day where any of 4/5 teams can go down.
