honestly tho the her voice just fits it so perfectly in a way that rihanna's wouldn't. it still sounds like a grimes song just aimed a bit more at the mainstream.

shoot me or whatever but this is pretty much the music she should be making... her first album / phone sex etc were amazing but it was all because of the vagueness and vulnerability. now you get to hear her and hear production with complete clarity. not masked in the whole amateurish ingenue she was really famous for. this is a song to roll with the big dogs

I never really wanted to see Grimes use what I see as generic drops. Personally I think she's much more original than that.

Take someone like Jessie Ware, who's changed up her sound considerably for a more mainstream audience but has still kept to the elements of her music that she became so acclaimed from.

well considering i consider jessie ware's output for her 2nd album so far as a total misfire i'm gonna have to disagree.

i think grimes hasn't lostt her stamp at all over this???? no-one in the industry quite plays the femme fatale role like she does.

agreed with lew about jessie w, i don't really care to live in a her world if it involves making ed sheeranick songs with ed sheer an

i think ppl are cutting too cut up in the context of this, grappling with rihanna this, grimes that. both would have put a good tilt on it because it's a good song. i'm just glad rihanna's team turned it down because i hope it gives boucher the right push to go the whole hog pop, it's where her vision (no pun) seems to be heading and the end result is just stunning. THAT VIDEO. who knew she had such star power and PRESENCE, utterly captivating.

i hope the next record pushes her more forward and more to pop because she has the makings of being the left of field and VERY MAINSTREAM darling. she's already something of a hipster icon.

A little disappointed with this.

It sounds like a Hudson Mohawke track from a couple of years ago and in doing so sounds dated.

I like the video though.

She needs to do better.

Griff and Doctor Blind getting that music industry impact. :o

But this is really frustrating news. I didn't like Go as much as previous Grimes singles but it really irks me when an artist changes direction because they're worried their fans won't buy something rather than because they feel it's not the right artistic direction for them to develop in.

I don't think money is the issue. I mean releasing a Go-esque album would alienate a part of her old fanbase but it'd be a bigger commercial hit surely?
people are so f***in snobby smh... go is probably the best thing she's put her name to aside from the main singles from the last album, she RLY suits being commercial

Go is one of the best songs of the YEAR. I expected to go off it by week 3 but I still can't get enough after 2.5 months! She does mainstream better than all the Britneys and Rihannas tbh.

she IS the idiot

your artist integrity is dictated by your own personal vision and direction, surely you should be the artist you want to be irrespective of social media? clearly not here. stand strong to what you believe, irrespective of backlash. this is one of the few reasons i love gaga tbh.

tho at least we get a grimes album now churned out of the very reverse of what her fans wanted. everyone should be quite happy.

ARTISTIC MERIT

really fucking hate this cunt for retreating to comfort zone off the back of a fanbase reaction. this is one of the biggest hits that never was. such a loss to both rih and her in terms of future direction. yeah, we all love a left-field hipster album but this was such an interesting twist on the dubstep/edm trend (offering something separate from the wobwob/doublespeed beats into the chorus clichés, as well as going for a totally tonally different feel to pretty much any dubstep/edm track i can think of in an emotional sense.) that i can't help but be disappointed for what we will no longer hear more of. legitimately my song of the year.

Actually she said she scrapped the album because it "sucked", not necessarily because of the negative reactions to Go.

Go is indeed the (non-iamamiwhoami) song of the year though :(

we can ONLY HOPE she's carrying on with the go sound

though i DOUBT IT

Well, duh.

No artist wants to alienate their fanbase, no matter how shallow and stupid that fanbase is~

seriously tho, 26k youtube likes vs 2k youtube dislikes

OH NO SUCH BACKLASH

so she has put the demo out there for everyone to listen to. it is EVEN BETTER than the original imo. "may have mixed the soul out of it" indeed ::
