I knew it would be #9 or #10 watching their iTunes performance and then seeing how slowly it was actually tumbling down few chart through the mids showed that it was picking up a fair few physical buys. I hope the tumble slot helps them. Another top 10 album has probably just saved them from complete irrelevancey.

Fantastic news (for once) but still sad considering we were all expecting Top 5. #9 in Scotland too which is better than LFTW.
What are we thinking the girls should do next?Release 808 after the tour and hope for a radio hit(probably impossible) that can also help the GH album or go on straight to a new album or just give up?I can't see them getting another top 10 single again especially with the streaming rule :(

808 Ft. Pitbull to save the sats.
They could get a top 10, but they need to release it to spotify early to build up momentum. However this only works if they have a hit on their hands of course
I'm glad they managed to just cling onto top 10! Well, #10 would have been disappointing given our expectations but after how things went this week I actually expected a place or two lower.
I hope the album doesn't fall as low as #34 next Sunday. Top 30 would be nice, at least.

I think releasing 808 as a single would be the last nail in the coffin. That song is about as generic as it gets. Ideally they'll go on tour which should generate buzz, they can each take some time for solo endeavors, and then regroup early next year with a new album. A big part of why WAU smashed was because of 1) The buzz around them going to America and 2) They hadn't released a single in close to a year. A short break and some solo buzz (Frankie on Strictly, etc.) will go a long way for them. If they come back with a strong single they could have another hit.

I really don't think there's anything they CAN do now unless they get a charity single or a well known guest rapper in a single.

I think, unfortunately the nail already went into the coffin, they can't get airplay, any kind of break would just make them more irrelevant (artists more popular than the sats have come back from a break and nobody cared).

I'm just hoping that this album can sell a bit better over time. Other than that I'm really looking forward to the tour and Tumble medley(And Frankie on strictly), but I don't think there is a chance they are having a hit single ever again.

the final nail in the coffin is when NGU was snubbed. without radio on side, and them struggling even for a few tv shows in release week they are screwed. nobody even knew that WAYWF happened! its a non-event outside of team sats.
They need Disco Love part 2. Everyone adored how bubblegum it was and all the 80's references. We need a 'Work B*tch' reference and maybe a Grease or a Saturday Night Fever themed video

I wish they would branch out into other markets such as Australia, Germany, Canada, etc. They have put almost zero effort into any country besides the UK/Ireland and US.

I love how everyone overreacts lol!

Did everyone think it was all over when Work charted at #22?

WAYWF did #25 on sales.. Not too far off.. And they came back from that.

They're the first major casualties of the streaming era but they definitely won't be the last.

It's strange because they're 'flopping' but the music industry is fickle.. They can pull it back.

Well I hope so Scherz!

I don't think people thought Work was the end of them because it was a 5th single and when it went to #22 it was already its 4th week in the top 40, had been A-listed on Radio 1, the album had just gone patinum and Mollie had just sung her amazing note on Saturday Night Takeaway - things were looking great for The Saturdays.

I don't think it is over-reacting when a lead single can't even sell 15k in it's opening week and had no support and couldn't even get TV airplay. :( It's the same road so many artists have gone down before they faded out.

Work was the fifth single off a platinum selling album and still managed to sell over 100k though. It's a real shame that streaming pushed them so far down the chart this week.

I agree about the collaboration for the next single. Perhaps it was the Sean Paul feature that helped What About Us sell so well, his singles usually go into the top ten. I'm not really a fan of the whole "rent-a-rapper" thing but if it gets them back on the radio playlists... They haven't done the Children In Need single yet, so that could be an option.

In an ideal world, I'd have liked them to continue promoting the Greatest Hits over Christmas to push sales as this seemed to work for Headlines. I remember one week it was outside the top 20 and still managed to top the first week sales when it charted at #3. As much as I like the two new songs on the GH though, I don't think either of them are suitable or strong enough for a single release.

the tweets the stans are sending the girls are horrible! way too much abuse.\

i think this next album will be an acoustic one or something.. i can't see the label willing to invest anything into the girls now and a christmas record would need a lot of promo on tv

I don't think it was Sean Paul that helped WAU GO #1. He was more irrelevant than The Sats are now and still is. It was a great song. That's why it went to #1. I say release WTTD as a second single or an instant great to encourage album sales at this point and during the tour. Releasing 808 would be career suicide for defo. 808 really sounds like they tried to make a carbon copy of WAU and releasing that would just be desperate.

^ I do think Sean Paul played a small part in WAU's success - any rapper usually helps sales a little. but I do agree with James that it was largely the song. However, I think it helped they also had much better than usual airplay and Chasing the Saturdays.

You can't have an instant grat when the album isn't out. They should have done it the week before it came out though.
