August 17, 201410 yr ^ you can't release an instant grat after the album is out... an instant grat is like a "pre order and get one song now" kinda thing :) i think promote the hits for the next few weeks and during the tour then come back with some new single later in the year. I'd like a ballad now.. whats to loose? radio are done, no foreign label will invest in a band thats last two singles bombed... maybe a CIN ballad would be nice and would at least get quite a bit of TV promo plus local radio and radio2 are more likely to get on board with a ballad rather than a big dance song which is aimed at a younger audience.
August 17, 201410 yr I think Frankie being on Strictly COULD bode well for them doing the Children in Need single? The general public don't pay attention to chart positions, it's only fans and people on forums like us. We pay a lot of attention to positions and sales because it's part of our hobby to check etc. Wouldn't be surprised to see them do CIN at all. They're still relevant enough in the publics eyes to do it. It could have been a lot worse. At least there are still 14,000 people that downloaded the single with no airplay, no video plays and 2 televised performances. A ballad would allow them to sing live, get the public back on board and everything will be fine.. Hopefully :kink:
August 17, 201410 yr the tweets the stans are sending the girls are horrible! way too much abuse.\ i think this next album will be an acoustic one or something.. i can't see the label willing to invest anything into the girls now and a christmas record would need a lot of promo on tv The girls and their management need to know how annoyed we are and that something needs to change. If the next era (if there is one) is a repeat of this one, than I'm done!
August 17, 201410 yr The girls and their management need to know how annoyed we are and that something needs to change. If the next era (if there is one) is a repeat of this one, than I'm done! This. I am literally so close to just abandoning the girls, which I don't want to do because I love them! I am hoping the tour is incredible and can turn me back to full on hardcore fan  I need the coloured tights.
August 17, 201410 yr they also had much better than usual airplay They didn't. It was #23 or #25 on radio the second it hit #1 on iTunes. In comparison, Disco Love wasn't doing that far worse and 30 Days had a better peak if I remember correctly? It's only when radio stations saw that the song was #1 for more than one hour that they started playing the most popular song in the UK at the moment. Rent-a-rapper, any duet really, tv reality, charity single, there a lot of things they could do.
August 17, 201410 yr Wasn't Disco Love like 48 on airplay when it was released, then climbed to the top 30 after release. #23 for a song that isn't out is very decent.
August 17, 201410 yr This. I am literally so close to just abandoning the girls, which I don't want to do because I love them! I am hoping the tour is incredible and can turn me back to full on hardcore fan  I need the coloured tights. But this whole thing comes from our wish that other people shared our own interests...as fans, what else could we ask? they make great music, they have released way more albums than the average of groups, they treat us with special editions, they go on tour regularly, they are the absolute nicest girls in the world...You can fully enjoy the group even if you don't care about their sales. August 17, 201410 yr It's a double edged sword for me. I'm so obsessed with the girls it's ridiculous. Everything they release is great and want the best for them. Every era I think that it's the one and they'll blow everyone out the water and get this million selling album/single (unrealistic I know). I'll always support them and promote them wherever I can. It's amazing that after 6.5 years they are still releasing music and being the recognizable 'pop' artists the chart needs. However... They cannot continue like this. Even though they have promoted, it is no where near enough to sustain a career. They are the band that NEED to promote to achieve higher sales/position. Their management must think the same as the most of us. They must look at the chart position/sales and think that something needs to change. I know their priorities have changed, with three having children, but this shouldn't stop them wanting the best for their music. Their music is not bad at all, and they should stick to what they have seen sells and is received well (Disco Love being the most relevant comparison). I personally would like to see them next album/era stick to pure pop, like Disco Love and Higher, as that's proven to be popular with the public. I don't like to mention the flaws of the band, but personally, something needs to click with someone and change the outlook. We can't keep having albums selling less that 20,000 units can we?
August 17, 201410 yr I've got hope that over time, this will be a good trickle seller. A huge seller? No, not a chance, but eventually it should outsell LFTW even if it has similar longevity (with weaker opening sales). I know if I just got into a particular artist, the first thing I'd want to buy is the greatest hits if they have one, it's where you'll get all their notable songs of course. This isn't really the best way to continue a career - release a flop album/single, move on, but there's not a lot you can do when radio has completely abandoned you. Sure, some acts gain it back by having a huge smash (Maroon 5 with Moves Like Jagger, the song itself didn't get playlisted but their future singles did). That's unlikely with The Sats, I know, as Maroon 5 had the benefit of being successful in America too. They just need *some* kind of way to create some buzz again, as well as a really strong pop track. Girls Aloud had radio support for all singles but until Call the Shots, it wasn't *huge* radio support. Very few singles cracked the top 20 on airplay, but Call the Shots was an airplay smash hit, as was everything from then onwards, so it just goes to show that they need the right song imo. I love NGU and WAYWF? but they *are* pretty generic.
August 18, 201410 yr There's still a decent amount of hype for The Saturdays. I'm impressed they managed to sell 14,000 with little next to no airplay.
August 18, 201410 yr 7,268 sales for the album. 306 sales from #11, 692 sales from #9. 1,494k from #5. A bit of latter week promo or some advertisement would have made all the difference. Edited August 18, 201410 yr by Joe.
August 18, 201410 yr Although, 8k is terrible no matter what, it's still +5k from the second midweek where they had just sold about 500 copies from the last one. Promo towards the end of the week could have helped it indeed as clearly the sales were much stronger then.
August 18, 201410 yr I don't think they should release another single from this era at all. They're priorities aren't in the right place any more and the sooner they realize the band is they're main priority then that's when I'll want any music from them again. For me their music has always been great (despite a few fillers), but Living For The Weekend was a career low and The 3 New Tracks don't showcase anything new. I really think the dip in their music (for me anyway) is representative of their approach to their job. They obviously can't handle juggling The Saturdays, a family life, This Morning, Fashion Lines and other minor projects. Also taking 17 holidays a year isn't helping. I want a clean era and a flawless album and I haven't had that since On Your Radar. The public clearly like the girls with the list of the Top Tens they have! But their isn't anything fresh or interesting about the girls. What About Us & Disco Love worked because they were simple yet addictive tracks. Radio actually wanted to play them! They were fun listen-able pop tracks and that's what the girls should stick to! Ego, Higher, Up and Issues are all examples of that. WAYWF isn't their worst single but it doesn't bring anything new to the girls discography and why should Radio's play it if it's not even close to the girl's best. I think it's lazy for fans to say it's The Radios fault, it's not just the Radio's fault. It's also the quality of the music and the girls weak approach to the music. The combination of a lazy work ethic, an okay dance track and minimal radio spins (if that) are all ingredients needed for a single to flop and that's what happened. Also wiith streaming involved, management/the girls should be even more cautious and make more of an effort to gain streaming points/numbers/whatever. Dance Saturdays was nice but only for one era. All Fired Up and Notorious was fresh and fun because we'd never heard the girls like that before but 3 years down the line we have Notorious, All Fired Up, 30 Days, Not Giving Up and What Are You Waiting For. It's just dance song after dance song and their most recent releases only emphasise how superior Notorious and AFU are. If they go back to their pop roots or deliver something equally refreshing and memorable and begin to put 90% effort in again, then that's when I think the public will begin to acknowledge them again and as a result buy their music. Rant over. :coffee: Edited August 18, 201410 yr by Sociopath
August 18, 201410 yr I agree that they need to move back to their pop roots. On Your Radar was great as something different, but Living for the Weekend was just a pale imitation with a few random R&B influenced songs tacked on for good measure. I'd say the only pure pop song was "Disco Love" which was an averaged sized hit against the odds. It's obvious the public want pop from The Saturdays, not trend chasing music. They need to come back in October/November with a massive pop classic which can challenge Higher/Ego/Up in their singles discography and get radios back on board. Maybe try and do a few deals with a few stations. No 'saving' the better singles for after the album release crap like they did with Not Giving Up, Higher and Ego. Get the best songs out first to get bigger hits!
August 18, 201410 yr Author Let's also point out the fact that they perform more shows as a four-piece than a five-piece. I don't think it's a coincidence that their success began to wane around the time that started to happen.

I've never understood why they left Higher, Ego and NGU on the albums to be post album singles :s ...but The Saturdays always bounce back so it's only a matter of time but they need to hit with a big pop song. I hope you're right and they change it up a bit Edited August 18, 201410 yr by Sociopath
August 18, 201410 yr Great post Sociopath! I hope their team realise this too. I love What Are You Waiting For? but I'd love for them to have even On Your Radar levels of success singles/album wise for the sake of them being able to continue and create great music. And clearly that lies with pure pop. Headlines! was a great campaign in terms of gaining sales/maintaining their popularity as here we are in 2014 and the album is nearing 210,000 sales.
