I do find it so frustrating that Cheryl judges on a talent show and she mimes. The performance was well staged, she looked fantastic but miming makes it very hard for me to buy into her solo music.

You're welcome to your own opinion of course, but why do you find it difficult to buy into her solo music if she mimes? Not as if it's not her singing on the actual track :kink: It's more so that she can have the full performance - good vocals AND good dancing. She'd be compromising one aspect for the other if she didn't mime.

I'm Cheryl's defence I've noticed that when she judges she seems to focus more on stage presence than vocal ability.

But I'm annoyed she didn't record a more convincing backing track. It sounded exactly the same as the studio version.

Well that was a let down...

I have no problem with her miming because she usually WORKS that stage, but she didn't this time in the slightest..

Smash that lead (combined and weighted) Cheryl *.*

I'm not sure what the think of the performance. I can't compare it to "Crazy Stupid Love"'s Britain's Got Talent one as I didn't see it and YouTube refuses to let me but in comparison to the début performances of her three lead singles on The X Factor and The Voice UK, it was a bit of a disappointment. The staging was very minimalistic and really felt like it could have come from a contestant. A shame because I'm loving the song more than ever but I'm pleased it's made an impact regardless.

Maybe find a dance routine that suited her to sing and dance?. There is/has been contestants on x factor that have put on great performances in the dance department and have also sang live. I think my issue is she sits on a judging panel that judges singers and Cheryl isnt shy to point out if someone is off point vocally etc but she takes to the stage and mimes. I have seen these comments on a few other sites and i have to agree with them if you judge on a singing competition the least you can do is take to the stage and show them how its done, also all the other guest performers sing live so i dont see why everytime she has done the show she mimes.

She was awesome. The online dragging is simultaneously unsurprising and tiresome.

She can't win! If she sings live people say she sounds awful. When she mimes the same people slate her for not singing live.

Anyway it seems a lot of people don't care (lol) about all that and embrace Cheryl for who she is. Another #1 is coming. *.*

How is everyone so sure she mimed the whole thing? It sure wasn't the studio track and the vocals sounded very "live" and a lot less auto-tuned as usual. Can anyone actually point me one single moment in the performance where her mouth isn't in phase with the lyrics or something?

If she really mimed all of that then she made a pretty great job of it really :lol

I have no issue whatsoever with an act miming on stage, even the best do it, it's just for a judge on a singing show to then so openly and unashamedly mime doesn't sit very well with me. We all know she can't sing, and at best she's an average dancer, so there's no sense of compromising one or the other. She can't do both, she can only do ONE competently at best. It doesn't even impact my enjoyment of her as an artist/her music (granted, I'm not overly keen on either), but it just feels more than a tad disingenuous and a bit of a slap in the face of the contestants who she lambasts for not being able to sing live, when she can't/won't do it either.

It was LITERALLY the studio version. Listen to the first bleeped out 'f***ing'. It's quite obviously just been bleeped out on the audio track. She has always mimed on X Factor, but at least before she mimed to an 'as live' version to at least give the illusion of it being live, but that was nothing more than clicking 'play' on iTunes and popping out on stage.

I agree, and if it were live she would have been a lot more breathy, because she was moving around a lot. She was even breathy speaking to DO'L at the end, so it was quite unrealistic.

I do disagree about her being an average dancer though, I think she's quite a strong dancer.

Getting a bit bored of people saying she can't sing lol.

It was definitely mimed but not to the studio track, I noticed some differences almost right away.

It is a bit of a broken record to hear people saying that, but she really can't sing. She's a very good pop-star with great presence and is usually a good performer and a great dancer. Her voice also sounds good on a record a lot of the time and she's had some great pop songs in and out of Girls Aloud, but she's never been a good vocalist, and those "in session" things, if they're meant to be 'good' for her, only prove that, because she doesn't sound great at all.

She can win. She can give people no basis to criticise her if she releases and performs songs she can actually manage vocally or else pulls out spectacular performances with high-energy dance routines while miming (- of course there'll always be some detractors, as there are for every artist, but their numbers would be significantly reduced). Until then, why should she be entitled to 'win'? She's a professional singer - the 'can't win' angle wouldn't hold up with anyone else who regularly displays incompetence in their job and often resorts to trickery!

I've seen her sing well live before and I've also seen her put on a great show with a very impressive dance routine where her miming was (more) justified. Yesterday she did neither IMO so there's no reason she should get off scot free.

You can't expect everyone to ignore the fact she has to mime on a talent show in which she doles out vocal advice/critique or ignore the fact she can't hit the notes of songs she chooses to promote and instead embrace her for her severe vocal limitations and marvel in how fierce she looked etc!

I very rarely hear Cheryl give critique on a contestant's vocal abilities though. She will always prefer to comment on the performance side of things, of which she excels at as a popstar and has every right to offer her opinion on, after going through the process herself and carving out a very successful 12 year career.

And all this talk that she can't sing is so f***ing boring. She CAN sing. Yes she's no bloody Adele but for the style of music she does, she can hold a tune for god's sake. If she'd have sang live you'd all be moaning at how 'bad' she is, basically because a lot of you just don't like her (so it seems completely redundant to me for the select few of you to keep going on and on about it!). Simon and Louis can't sing, but no one seems to be kicking off at them judging talent. [/rantover]
