No, that's nothing to do with faith or being anti-science, it's part morality discussion, and part anxiety about what tinkering about with genetics might lead to in the long run, for example. Perfectly reasonable opinions to hold, even if one doesn't share them. To refer back to my previous references, if any church suggested similar viewpoints they wouldn't be labelled loonies, in the words of Father Ted, "that would be an ecumenical matter".

I'd call them faith-based loonies if they took on some of the positions and the arguments of the Greens too! Opposition to industrial agriculture for the mere virtue of it being industrial agriculture is utter nonsense, full stop. In any case, if it was just on this issue it could be allowed to slide, but the Greens pretty consistently go with the position in opposition to the scientific consensus (apart from the obvious one of course)
(if you want a tory government)

tories are saying the same, only labour government. guess that means both parties are petrified people are going to vote - shock - on the basis of parties they want in power rather than anti-one or the other. May is going to be very interesting....

I doubt the Tories are saying 'vote Green if you want a Labour government' - not least as there aren't many Green voters who'd have the Tories as their second choice!

You'd be surprised - I'm expecting some really good Green performances in some "true blue" Tory seats where fracking is an issue. Possibly including George Osborne's seat in Cheshire.

Yes - but I don't imagine most of those will be Tories switching to the Greens. Places like Balcombe seeing Green surges are basically just pointless Labour/Lib Dem votes becoming pointless Green votes.

Opposition to fracking is not by any means limited to lefties or the usual save-the-planet brigade. If anything, preserving the "green belt" and generally preserving a peaceful/traditional life is one of the main things that makes people vote Tory in places like Cheshire!

Osborne's might actually be the exception since he's such a high profile figure the anti-Tory vote will probably just rally around Labour in Tatton. Same with Witney.

The Greens still have a lot of plain irrational science-bashing in their ranks from the days when their membership was just the stereotypical Green voter. Labour should be matching them on the bits of their manifesto which make sense so that all they have to shout about are the barmy bits.

I think people in Cheshire vote Tory just because they're from Cheshire.

Such as an end to austerity?
