September 20, 201410 yr '808' is brilliant, but it's not 'let's all lose our shit and forget 6 years of amazing album tracks' good! It really is! I was at a house party last night and made a mix for songs to play there on my iPod. I snook 808 into the mix and when it came on everyone was singing along to it and danced their asses off to it. Even at 2am this morning, my friends were singing 'Drop like an 808' and kept asking who it was

But did you tell him it was Rochelle feat The Saturdays, you wouldn't be lying cause that's what it basically is right?
September 20, 201410 yr Rochelle leading it is a good thing though, Vanessa sounds amazing in the first verse however.
September 20, 201410 yr Amazing! But did you tell him it was Rochelle feat The Saturdays, you wouldn't be lying cause that's what it basically is right? Molluna sound better than her with just their pre-choruses, sad, but true.
September 20, 201410 yr Molluna sound better than her with just their pre-choruses, sad, but true. Filthy liar
September 20, 201410 yr The 'do it do it do it' hook/second chorus are what makes the song and helloooo.. Vanessa
September 20, 201410 yr Molluna sound better than her with just their pre-choruses, sad, but true. Rochessa -> Frankie -> Molluna their pre choruses is mainly good because of Frankie. So turn it up to amazing It sounds so lush.
September 20, 201410 yr 808 only came 16th in another forum's album track game! Maybe a tad over-rated here? I love it, I gave it a 10, but it's definitely not their ultimate track for me. 'One Shot' really should have won this.

September 21, 201410 yr Molluna sound better than her with just their pre-choruses, sad, but true. 110% Sultruna and Sultrollie are everything. But let's be honest, no one will be checking for 808 a year from now.
September 21, 201410 yr '808' is brilliant, but it's not 'let's all lose our shit and forget 6 years of amazing album tracks' good!Exactly. I can help but feel like some people might have been influenced, first, by the fact that it's fresh and obviously really good nonetheless, but also maybe because it's the best of the three new songs and I think people might have tried to give at least one 11 to an albumtrack of each album. Even I believe #2 or #1 is too high and I actually gave it a 11. #5 wouldn't have been bad, actually. Anything in between 5-10. I bet my ass that in 2-3 years, if we ever were to do a similar rate/rank, it wouldn't fare that well. (It would still probably go top 15 because, yes, it is really good). September 21, 201410 yr Well, I do happen to think that it's one of their best album tracks so I think it's justified in its position. It's not about forgetting about 6 years of album tracks, it's about putting them together and taking them for the tracks themselves. If it had been included on 'On Your Radar' there wouldn't be this issue.. but it'd be the same song and would probably still be #2 or #1. IMO '808' is an anthem. It really grates on me when people take away merits from a track because it's newer than other tracks that they like or would have preferred to come higher. New songs are allowed to be better than older tracks. For example.. is 'What About Us' not allowed to be their ultimate track because it's newer than 'Up' or 'Ego'? You're not disregarding 'Ego' or 'WAU', but 'What About Us' is an amazing song.. regardless of where it's released in their discography.
September 21, 201410 yr I don't think there's anything wrong with liking newer songs more (my Top 5 Sats songs are all from the past two eras) but I do think 808 pales in comparison to the likes of Get Ready, Get Set, White Lies, Wildfire, Last Call, etc. etc. and the fact that it's fresher has helped it immensely in this rate. While you may be able to be objective, a lot of people aren't.
September 21, 201410 yr I definitely agree with Hurricane on this one, in a year or two it would definitely not be this high up. A respectable Top 10, maybe even low Top 5, but runner-up or possible winner? Nah (nah nah nah nah). Fingers crossed for 'Get Ready, Get Set'. The impact of it being on a playable lanyard and also #1 on BuzzJack would just be incredible. xx :kink:
September 21, 201410 yr ^ But why? The track won't be any different in a year or two. We probably won't have much new music to compare it to. 'Walking Through The Desert' is just as new and came in at #7 but nobody said anything about that. Are you saying that people have objectively judged 'WTTD' but not '808'? They're as fresh as each other. I guess it's different opinions (the pales in comparison etc) but I'm not sure I quite understand what the problem is.. Everyone's been asked to rank all of their album tracks out of 10, then when the results come in you don't agree with them. Maybe don't give it a 10/11 if you don't want to see it do well?

Maybe don't give it a 10/11 if you don't want to see it do well? Oh no no, it's the same for 'WTTD' for me : I just didn't know it actually managed to be #7! That's a bit high as well. I see your point, but it doesn't work like that from what I've seen on this forum. It's like the typical critism that 'Up' always gets "Oh I used to love it back then, but now I feel like it sounds too dated/it's shit!". (I chose 'Up', but it's been said about lots of their songs/singles as well, really.) The track isn't any different than it was 4-5 years ago - in fact, it's literally the same ha! - , but yet, people don't love it as much as they used to. Don't get me wrong, I've listened to '808' 200 times already (which is probably more than some people have listened to their actual favorite single of the girls! ). I love it, I really do, but I can't help but feel some people might not have been as objective as you or might have been influenced by other factors. As I said, I'm not saying the song would be out of the top 30 next year. "Old" (amazing) songs like 'Faster', 'One Shot' and 'Get Ready, Get Set' all managed to get top 10 and I have no doubt '808' will manage it as well, but I also have no doubt that once the "new/fresh" song effect wears off, it will drop a few places (even if we don't take into account songs released after it!). Anyway, this whole paragraph just to say that I feel like you think we hate the song? It's not that we don't want it to do that well (not that I can speak for Jay and Love Killer but yaknow ) Isn't low top 5 or top 10 "doing good"? We gave it a 10 or a 11, but we also gave the same scores to other songs as well. In my opinion, you can give a 11 to two songs, but feel like one is still much better than the other one. (Also, I don't know how I sound right now, but I just want to say that this is not passive-agressive, said in a mean way or anything and I'm just having a conversation here. )
September 21, 201410 yr Well said Hurricane. For example, people were all about Lease My Love and Leave A Light On when they first came out. They probably would've gone Top 10 on a rate like this at that time. But now they are clearly much lower because people got tired of them (it's not due to new entries because there have only been two new album tracks since). I guess we'll know for sure 6 months to a year from now when we do another one of these :)
