188. Showtek featuring We Are Loud! and Sonny Wilson - "Booyah"

UK #05

I remember someone claiming that dance music was just about dead sometime last year, which I think is hilarious. Dance music has probably never been bigger than it is today with stars like Avicii, David Guetta and Calvin Harris being superstars today despite never singing themselves (well at least in Avicci and Guetta's case; Harris sings, yes, I know). Showtek grabbed a piece of electro-house craze that was starting last fall, but comparing it to the other smashes of that time such as 'Animals' and 'Look Right Through' this just kind of pales. It's a nice song and if it came on at the club I would go absolutely crazy, but it still feels like something is missing from it.

Maybe it's the singer who doesn't really have the most radio friendly voice or maybe it's the fact that the song seems to build up to something crazy but then doesn't quite go where you're hoping that it goes. Whatever it is, this song isn't quite good enough to chart any higher than this but I can still definitely enjoy listening to it every now and then though the 'skip' button has been used furiously in the past.

Showtek and both of the nobodies that feature show up again exactly zero times on this list and presumably every list ever again.

187. One Direction - "Diana"

US #11, {UK #58}

Here come 1D again, but outlasting two of their official singles is this promotional one! I have never heard this song prior to making this list, but it's actually really catchy and fun - would have made a far better official single than 'Midnight Memories' which is just utterly boring in my opinion. Anyway, this cute little ditty was released ahead of their third studio album (also called 'Midnight Memories') last November and somehow managed to reach the Top 20 in the US.

'Diana' is a typical boyband song though that any girl (especially if their name is Diana) can feel like they're singing to them, and it's got equally clichéed lyrics as most of their songs do but it's still cute enough to be listenable even if you don't want to bake a baby for each and every one of them. (I'd only do it for Zayn and Liam so no deal) Like I said during the 'One Way' commentary, One Direction have four more songs in the running but they all actually have a fair shot of making the top 100 so it'll be a while until we see anything else they did last year.

Diana, you don't even know me but I can feel you falling off my list. (Buh-bye now!)

186. Fleetwood Mac - "Everywhere"

UK #04, US #11

Ahhh, yeah I just realized that this wasn't actually released in 2014 and actually made it to the Top 20 in BOTH UK and US back in 2014 but honestly I don't care at this point. It's way less of a problem for me to just sway the rules for this one song rather than to go edit every song that's been so far and add one song I'd already eliminated at No. 200 (It would be 'Not A Saint' by the way). This one is just cute enough for me to want to keep it though.

Who doesn't like Fleetwood Mac? They are a classic but honestly I had never heard this song before so I just thought it was a new song that was maybe just a bit dated but still definitely enjoyable but now I know it was part of some UK mobile service ad and was a re-entry rather than a new entry. I mean, it's all very confusing as the song was even featured on Now 84!

Anyway, I wanna be with FM everywhere except maybe higher on this chart.

185. Robin Thicke featuring Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz - "Give It 2 U"

UK #15, {US #25}

Oh wait, here's one additional 2 Chainz appearance that I didn't realize was there because officially 2 Chainz isn't credited on this song (only on the remix). Lucky you Riser as this brings his total to FIVE Top 200 entries, and not four like I originally proclaimed! Anyway on to the song itself and the accompanying video: Robin Thicke is one sexy bast*rd. Sorry but it's true. He's like this sleazy pervy dude but there is something so f**kin' sexy about him I just don't understand it. He's also rather cringeworthy at times so I don't know if his sexiness counts for much anymore.

'Blurred Lines' was one of the biggest hits of 2013 and this was its' lackluster follow-up that didn't do much more than scratch the Top 20 in a couple of countries around the world.. Which is fine I guess but not as good as you'd expect considering how massive 'Blurred Lines' was. I'm pretty sure the fault lies in the fact that 'Give' is just not nearly as catchy as its' predecessor and it's just like a mess of a blend of genres such as hip hop, electro and even disco. Considering the big names that worked on this (K. Lamar, will.i.am, Dr. Luke, etc) this should have been a lot better and a lot more memorable.

Robin Thicke has a big floppy thing. (Hint: it's this song)

184. Michael Bublé - “It’s A Beautiful Day”

UK #10, {US #94}

See, the thing with Michael Bublé is he’s a really likeable guy and his songs are usually sung in a very positive manner (see: ‘Hollywood’ and ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’) but there is something about him that still doesn’t click right with me. I do like this song to some extent and it’s hard not to sing along if it comes on the radio but I still somehow never downloaded it even though it seemed to be just about everywhere last year. This might be exactly why it ranks this low: Overexposure can be a terrible thing.

‘Day’ is like a perfect break-up song because it doesn’t allow you to go into that whole “my life sucks” department and just encourages you to move on and realize that you deserve better. It is however Bublé’s only song on the list and one of the few Bublé songs I actually remember what sound like, which is hilarious considering that he’s definitely a very well known artist. Props for using Jaime Pressly in the video though. <333

It’s a beautiful day to kick Bublé off the Top 200 list.

183. Robbie Williams - “Go Gentle”

UK #10

This is, I think, the second-to-last song that I kick off my list that I hadn’t heard prior to making it. It’s very hard for me to rank songs that I’ve never heard above those that I have heard many times, but this one (and the final one) I really wanted to drag higher only because they’re really enjoyable. I have a sort of love-hate relationship with Mr. Williams, because he is definitely very hit and miss. This should have been way more of a hit for him, considering ‘Advertising Space’ was huge back when, and that’s NOT a very good song.

The problem with me and Robbie is that I tend to judge him before actually hearing the songs, and if I hadn’t decided prior to give all the songs an equal chance and listen to each and every one I probably would have not let ‘Gentle’ into the Top 200 just because I would have assumed it to be boring.. Which is funny because I’ve actually liked a lot of his “recent” singles (eg. ‘Candy’, ‘Goin Crazy’, ‘You Know Me’, ‘Bodies’). I don’t know exactly what it is, maybe it’s just that I assume that he himself is actually a bit of a prick and allow that to seep into my prejudice towards his singles, but there is really no way to tell.

Robbie has only one more song on the chart and it’s his aforementioned feature ‘Goin Crazy’ with Dizzee Rascal.

182. The Saturdays - “Gentleman”

UK #14

Following 'Go Gentle' is The Saturdays' 'Gentleman' and that was not intentional I swear lmao. This is better known as the flop of a follow-up single after finally hitting the No. 1 spot with 'What About Us' earlier last year and I can't blame people for hating on this seeing how they had 'Disco Love' just waiting in the wings when they sent out this.. uh, weird song. I mean that part where they start name-dropping all these celebs is just so tacky. Larry King? Really Frankie? Also, I do like his music but Chris Brown is no gentleman girls. Get your sh!t together.

All that said I can still admit that this is a fun song after you've hammered it often enough into your brain but it's still bound to be one of the Saturdays' worst singles to date (maybe excluding 'What Are You Waiting For?' which I'm sure was made just to flop). This is because The Sats have a pretty flawless pop perfect discography if you're into that sort of thing and they are just oozing charisma (most of them are, at least) and likeability so I've never understood how they have so many haters as well. I like the Desperate Housewives feel of the video though, but it's all still not enough to help this get higher on my list. 'What About Us' and 'Disco Love' both make it way higher though.

A real pop song is hard to find but a flop song is what you got. Sorry girls.

181. Afrojack featuring Spree Wilson - “The Spark”

UK #17

I honestly have no freakin' idea where I have this song. I absolutely HATE the beginning for no particular reason other than the song just sounds annoying at that part. The vocalist in this song is also rather irritating in the video and his voice is just not what I like listening to all that much but then comes the drop and that is absolutely amazing! That is NOT surprising though as Afrojack is one of the best producers in music today! (Hi 'Take Over Control', 'No Beef' and 'Ten Feet Tall') I just wish he used some other singer and maybe just an entirely different set of lyrics for this song as it could hav ebeen so much more epic.

This is also Afrojack's only song on the list because for some ridiculous reason 'As Your Friend' failed to make the Top 20 despite having the star power of Chris Brown, but that would have featured a lot higher on the list. Anyway, 'The Spark' was a moderate success around Europe but unsurprisingly failed to make it in the USA presumably due to its' lackluster vocalist or something. Probably not though, I guess Spree just gets on my nerves because he looks a lot like the guy who played Dixon on 90210 and my GOD did I hate that character.

We all got the spark Mr. Wilson, but yours shines just about as much as Jordin Sparks' last single did. That's right, it didn't.

180. Stylo G - “Soundbwoy”

UK #18

Here comes the final song that I had never heard prior to making this list. I love the 'Pass Out'-esque feel of the song and am honestly surprised this was not bigger when it was released as it's an absolute banger. I admit I probably would not have given this as much of a chance if I had not heard 'Come Over' by Clean Bandit featuring mister Stylo, but considering how much I love that song I couldn't let this one slide by. I can admit though that the song doesn't really seem to go as far as it possibly could but it's still such a cool song.

This suffers from the same achilles heel as 'Go Gentle' - the fact that I had never heard this before means I cannot possibly rank it higher than so many songs that I have listened to twenty to fifty times more often than this one. The video is rather boring though and this is the only song of his that made the Top 20 in 2013 but next year we have 'Come Over' which will undoubtedly chart a lot higher than this one as it is truly massive!

How the hell do I pronounce 'bwoy' though?

179. Nelly featuring Nicki Minaj and Pharrell Williams - “Get Like Me”

UK #19, {US #108}

This feels so much more like a Pharrell song than a Nelly song to be honest. I'm glad Nelly made it though, because he is looking fi-i-i-i-ine in the video damnnn. Especially considering he's 38 years old! (WHAT?) Anyway, this was supposed to be about the song and not how hot the singer may or may not be (he is). The song is just like one of the purest hip hop songs released last year, and has three huge hip hop names on it as if to validate that fact. 'Get Like Me' didn't really do any damage last year though, for some reason, but me being not really a HUGE hip hop lover was what surprised me about this song because I actually like it a lot.

My favorite thing about the video is when they keep drumming on one chick's ass (which Nicki seems to have borrowed for one of the best scenes in the legendary 'Anaconda'), but that's just like the whole feel about the song and video - it's so groovy and doesn't really feel like it's trying too hard. That may also be it's downfall because it isn't all that memorable unless you've had it on repeat for quite some time (I haven't) so that's why it kind of fall flat here at #179.

178. James Arthur - “You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You”

UK #02

Ugh, I honestly CANNOT stand f**king James Arthur. What a douche and and he's so annoying to look at (mostly thanks to his hideous neck beard, like what's up with that?). That's why I can't for the life of me understand why he is able to make actual listenable music! I mean, shouldn't karma have done its' thing already when he attacked sweet as a muffin Matt Cardle?! (WHO DOES THAT?) Sorry, I get a bit carried away when it comes to James Arthur but this song is annoyingly good. I mean, it's nothing new I suppose, but I really do like listening to it every now and then and he even still has one song to go on my list as 'Recovery' is bloody brilliant (F**k you James Arthur! Seriously.)

I actually have only listened to three of his songs to date (these two + 'Impossible') and all are actually good but it pains me to drag this any higher than all these songs by actually likable artists, but whatever this is about the music I guess, not the artists so I'll just leave this here. I'm not listening to any more of his songs unless I accidentally stumble upon them because I'm afraid I'll like them and I don't like supporting this man beast. Ugh. Whatever. This writeup is done. G'bye.

177. Justin Timberlake featuring Jay-Z - “Suit and Tie”

UK #03, US #03

I remember hearing that Justin Timberlake was FINALLY about to release new music and being so super hyped because 'FutureSex/LoveSounds' is one of my favorite albums of all time and then came the first single.. WHAT? This is it? How f**king boring is this song? I couldn't believe I waited seven freakin' years for this borefest about formal attire. The only reason why I'm dragging this song so far on the list instead of dumping it below the Top 200 line is because of the

. Seriously, there are so many people who knew how to make this song so much better that it's not even funny.

The video is also boring as f**k, and we all know Justin could do so much better so mostly I'm just disappointed in him rather than angry. I got over it rather quickly though, as 'Mirrors' and 'Tunnel Vision' were both much better, but then he had to go and release f**kin' 'Take Back The Night' and later the terribly mediocre 'Not A Bad Thing' so I'm so confused as to how I feel about Justin these days. Parts of 'The 20/20 Experience' were great, but parts were absolutely boring as [warning: uncensored swear word] fuuuuuuuuuck.

Stick to what you're good at doing Justin and stop trying to become some discount Michael Jackson.

176. Sub Focus featuring Kele - “Turn It Around”

UK #14

I looove Sub Focus, and I love solo Kele (as opposed to Bloc Party Kele which I've never really liked all that much with the exception of one

), but for some reason the two of them together just doesn't click as intensely as I would have expected. Do not get me wrong, I like this song a lot and the beat is (as usual) amaaaazing! The video is also very audio-visually stunning (in the sense that it is very in sync with the music), but for some unknown reason this doesn't stay in my mind for too long even though this should be a major hit for me. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I was discovering this at the same time as a lot of similar songs such as 'Turn Back Time' and Chase and Status' 'Count On Me' - both of whom I listened to a lot more than this one and clicked way better with me so it just felt like this was too similar or something.

This is one of two Sub Focus songs to reach the Top 20 in 2013, with Alex Clare feature 'Endorphins' coming up much later as that is definitely one of my favorite tunes of the year. Sub Focus have really been making biiig splashes on my personal chart with the various singles they've released off of 'Torus' with the biggest one probably being 'Tidal Wave' which is a definite Top 50 hit for 2012 as I still listen to it a lot seeing how it's pretty much flawless! 'Turn It Around' is not however, but it is still a very good song - just not a great one.

Turn it around and be more memorable Kele. This is not an A+ effort!

175. Nelly - “Hey Porsche”

UK #06, {US #42}

Oh wow, I didn't realize poor Nelly was gonna lose his final song so soon after his second-to-last one (Get Like Me, No. 179) but this one is just a bit more mainstream than its' follow-up which was just pure hip hop. 'Porsche' is a weird song though and it feels like Nelly is selling out a bit in this as it's basically just about him wanting to ride his Porsche-slash-girl and the video makes you feel like it's gonna turn into a cheesy porn flick right after he denies the chick her car keys back.

Unlike in 'Get Like Me', Nelly isn't all that sexy in this video and rather just pretty awkward with his strange dances and hand movements while driving with his robotic love interest (who seems to have gone to the same acting school as Kristen Stewart by the looks of it). 'Porsche' gets this far though for the fact that even if it is very generic it's still a lot of fun and easy to singalong to. All-in-all it's fun but it's success in the UK still sort of baffles me to this day!

Hey Nelly, imma go all Sophie's Choice on you and make you choose between the Porsche and the chick. Ha!

174. Leona Lewis - “One More Sleep”

UK #03

Wow it feels so weird listening to this right now as I am NOT a christmas song kind of person.. at all. But Leona is so cute and I am so happy she enjoyed some success with this and I hope that since Spotify is going to be hammering these christmas songs into our charts next December anyway this will get picked up again and become a christmas classic! That being said I can only repeat what I said earlier: I am not a christmas song kind of person so I cannot for the life of me drag this any further into a chart full of non-christmassy songs. (This is a big enough shock for me to have let it this far but this is just soo cute!)

This is, unsurprisingly, Leona's only single in the Top 200 for this year but she has at least one Top 200 hit in every year before that all the way down to 2007 so I can definitely say that I like her music even though it may not always be my cup of tea. She has a massive voice and is definitely one of the X Factor's biggest stars so I hope she won't just fade into obscurity now.

173. Lil Wayne featuring Drake and Future - “Love Me”

US #09, {UK #44}

I am normally not a fan of Lil Wayne singles (I like a lot of songs where Lil Wayne is featured but in most cases they'd definitely not hurt from getting him removed, heh) but this one was a surprise. Honestly, Wayne doesn't even get on my nerves for the duration of the song. The beat is great and even though the song is essentially not about anything substantial (bitches being loved by Wayne, Future and Drake) it doesn't really matter because it's the feel of the song that gets you.

This does NOT mean that I'm a Lil Wayne fan now though, but I'm man enough to admit that I've been somewhat of a Drake fan since 'Find Your Love'. This kind of rap generally bores me though, but for some reason this was nice enough to make the Top 200 while 'All Me', 'Lolly' and 'Bound 2' (for example) were not. The video is rather cool as well, with some freaky lookin' ladies alongside Drake and Lil Wayne (I think Future doesn't appear in the video, but I might be mistaken)

172. Lawson - “Juliet”

Lawson is one of those bands that just spring up out of nowhere and then just disappear completely without as much as a peep. This was their final single from Chapman Square (the re-issue) and also their last single so far (though that might of course change at any point). I am actually still patiently waiting for the follow-up because Chapman Square was brilliant! These guys know exactly how to make good pop-rock music and I sure as hell hope they continue to do that. 'Juliet' is super catchy and Andy is so damn fine in the video (starting to think this is turning into a "guys who I wanna bang" commentary, lol) but it's just not their best to be honest.

I did play this song a lot but many many times it just faded into the background and I didn't even realize I was listening to it. That's the kind of song 'Juliet' is, which is disappointing because they can and have done better but this is still very good. Lawson have three songs this year, but only one of them made the Top 100, while the other one will follow soon. In 2012 they also have two definite Top 200 singles and one Top 100 so they have three months to release three songs to follow tradition.

171. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Schoolboy Q and Hollis - “White Walls”

US #15, {UK #26}

Macklemore and (the slightly less known) Ryan Lewis absolutely dominated 2013 with their first three singles, but somehow 'White Walls' just barely scraped the Top 20 rather than being just as big as its' predecessors. The reason behind that might be the fact that most people likely to buy this song probably already owned the album and post-album releases often have very short chart lives so I'm definitely not putting this one on the song itself because it's really good!

'White Walls' has a great video just like the other three, and the cinematography is beautiful (as always). Hollis, the female vocalist in this song, is beeaautiful like wow my god, and the video is just riddled with cameos from Wiz Khalifa to A$AP Rocky and even Sir Mix-a-Lot can be found in there! All-in-all it's a fun song but seeing how it's starting to get very tough to rank the songs now I'm bound to lose a couple of songs I actually like, but maybe just didn't listen to enough, right about now.
