158. Little Mix featuring Missy Elliott - “How Ya Doin?”

UK #16

This is definitely Little Mix's worst effort to date (bar 'Word Up', I still like to pretend that never happened) but that doesn't necessarily mean it's all bad. It's tacky and corny but still insanely catchy for the most part. This does not save the song from the fact that it got old terribly fast to the point of becoming annoying really. I love LM and rooted for them in the X Factor back in 2011 from the get-go, and I can totally forgive them for releasing something so forgettable since they've been pretty consistently great up to this point. Missy Elliott featuring on this song is rather strange though.

Little Mix has three more songs on the list. Missy, unsurprisingly, has none.

157. Union J - “Carry You”

UK #06

Union J are a strange band for me. I never really got how they got as far as they did on the X Factor as they were just remarkably boring and forgettable. Then when they actually managed two Top 20 singles in 2013 I was even more baffled because I had already forgotten about them at that point. Then I heard 'Carry You' and was actually pleasantly surprised. It's catchy and cute but when I watch the video I'm reminded why I disliked them. They are so freakin' bland it's unreal. Sure, they're cute enough, but they all just look like a teenage girl's wet dream and it gets on my nerves. 'Carry You' is good though but just like them I forgot about it real quick. 'Beautiful Life' is terribly though and 'Loving You Is Easy' the epitome of a generic boyband song.

This is Union J's only entry in the Top 200 and possibly ever because I'm still not sure if I like 'Tonight (We Live Forever)' and I'm pretty sure they're gonna fade into obscurity after that.

I guess the Harry Styles one was added just so you could tell there's

more than one person in this band.

156. Imagine Dragons - “Demons”

US #06, UK #13

I'll be honest: a big reason for why this song is so low is because of the video.. or maybe more accurately would be to say that it's mostly thanks to the singer's appearance. I don't know what it is that gets so much on my nerves about him (I think it's his haircut - I hate it so bad). For some weird reason that I simply cannot explain I haven't been able to stand this song since they very first time I saw the video. I listened to the song again now and it wasn't as bad as I remembered (it's actually pretty good) but damn it was played so much here in Iceland last year that it was hard not to change the stations whenever it came on. I think placing it here is being very generous compared to where it would have placed at the same time last year. The video has a nice message though which I can't look past but something about the production feels very fake.

Imagine Dragons have one more song yet to come for 2013, but their best song to date just missed the train as it entered the Top 20 in december 2012 so it will feature on that countdown instead.

155. Iggy Azalea featuring T.I. - “Change Your Life”

UK #10, {US #122}

So the first of three Iggy singles falls just outside the Top 150. Iggy had a great year in 2013 but as everybody has seen she's had an even better year in 2014. Her videos are always really visually pleasing even if she's a bit slutty in the lol. 'Change' was my least favorite of her 3 songs though because it's definitely the most generic of the bunch. (My least fave of her five "solo" singles so far actually) That does not mean that I dislike the song though, I just often didn't realize I was listening to it. TI is a great addition though and overall it's a really decent single choice and was her first Top 10 entry in the UK so that was definitely good on her.

154. P!nk featuring Lily Allen - “True Love”

UK #16, {US #53}

Okay before I start any bashing on this song I can only admit that the video is insanely cute and Pink and her husband (whatever his name is again) are super cute together. Buuut that does not take away from the fact that this song is borderline cringeworthy at some parts. It's quite there though, but this made me grow rather sick of it quickly. Lily also feels like such a random addition to the song (especially since we hadn't heard from her since her last random feature on "5 O'Clock" back in 2011) and only adds like 8 seconds to the song. The song sort of feels like it's aimed at 10 year olds or 40 year old housewives but I guess in the end that's just what makes it so catchy.

I love this song but at the same time I want to wrap my hands around its' neck.

153. Olly Murs - “Army Of Two”

UK #12

Ughh I'm so unsure about this song!! I sort of love most of what Olly makes because it's so catchy and awesome, and this is no exception. I love the instrumental of the song and Olly of course has a great voice but the problem with this song is that it's just so.. forgettable. I initially planned on cutting this loose at the Top 170 but because everytime I listened to it I remembered how much I liked it I always kept rearranging the list and moving this upwards.. Now I had to stop myself because I almost moved this even further up on the list but that isn't really fair. Olly still has a far better song higher up on this list but if 'Hand On Heart' had made the Top 20 that would have gotten somewhat further than this, though probably not into the Top 100. (I'm thinking No. 120 or so) 'Right Place, Right Time' would have placed similarly to this.

152. All About She - “Higher (Free)”

UK #20

Just barely making the countdown as it peaked at the absolute edge of the Top 20 is dance act All About She. They seemed to appear out of nowhere like many many dance acts before (and after) them. This is really enjoyable and would be super cool to hear on a night out but as with so many Top 20 hits this is just so unoriginal that it is easily forgettable. The video is even a dance music video cliché what with a couple of teens running around town stealing booze and watching the sunrise etc etc. That said I still like this a lot, I just keep forgetting it's there. Would definitely like to see them achieve some additional success though.

I thought for sure All About She would have at least one massive hit off the back of 'Higher (Free)'! Personally I love it and it still sounds great after not hearing it for several months.

Just saw this but from what I got:
  • RIP Hunter :cry:
  • YAAAAAAAAS @ "Cruise", "Boys Round Here", "That's My Kind Of Night" and "Rap God" not making it, those songs are horrid
  • "Can We Dance" is good, didn't have much longevity for me
  • "White Walls" is so underrated
  • YAS LITTLE MIX
  • "Demons" is the only song on here so far that I hate (pretty sure "Sail" is on here as well unless you disqualified it so if it's the latter than YAAAAAS)
  • Waiting on Conor, Zedd and Selegend
  • 5 months later...

Great trip down memory lane with these songs and reviews... 2013 was a big year in my life and some of these songs were the soundtrack of the year. The charts were quite good as well from my memory.

Hope you'll be posting some more reviews soon, as there's so many good songs to come!
