December 5, 201410 yr Author  It takes me back to Christmas 2001, I was still listening to it a lot by then. I was ever so sad when they split up on boxing day. :snif:
December 5, 201410 yr A lot to catch up on, so i'll just drop a shady comment for now, and then vow to pay attention to any future posts in here :magic: I don't see a lot of males in the countdown so far :o were you not into men during your early teen years

I associate this song with the house parties I went to in Year 11, this was a class favourite. 39 / One of the biggest hits of summer 2001 was 'Lady Marmalade' by Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya & P!nk. I remember I would amuse one of my old school friends by "rapping" Lil Kim's part to her! 37 / 'Dirrty' was a bit of a flop for Christina Aguilera in her homeland, but it was a different story in the UK where it spent 2 weeks at #1. This is my favourite Christina song from the early 2000s, marginally beating 'Lady Marmalade'. 36 / I was so excited when Destiny's Child reunited in late 2004 with their comeback single 'Lose My Breath'. How is that 10 years ago already? This was a massive hit for them in the UK where it spent 4 weeks locked at #2. I got my first ever iPod for Christmas 2004 and I had this song on constant rotation. 32 / After the rather disastrous chart performance of 'Funky Dory', Rachel Stevens redeemed herself with the summer 2004 release 'Some Girls', written & produced by Hannah Robinson & Richard X. Before Rachel Stevens secured this song for herself, Geri Halliwell was in the running to record it. When Geri found out that it went to Rachel, so she was supposedly so upset by the decision that she locked herself in her car & threw a tantrum in a bid to change the writers' minds! This incident later inspired them to write the Annie song 'Me Plus One' about the former Spice Girl.

December 6, 201410 yr Author 21 - Shakira - Whenever, Wherever 22 - Liberty X - Just A Little 23 - Girls Aloud - Jump 24 - Steps - It's The Way You Make Me Feel 25 - Atomic Kitten - Whole Again 26 - S Club 7 - Never Had A Dream Come True 27 - Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex 28 - Sugababes - Hole In The Head 29 - All Saints - Black Coffee 30 - Kylie Minogue - On A Night Like This Featured Song: k7laXQAjtw0 I know no one is going to be reading all of this, but just humour me! :kink: 30 The stunning 'On A Night Like This' by Kylie Minogue places within my Top 30. I loved the performance of this on the Kiss Me Once Tour! This really should have been a bigger hit than it was - although it achieved a great peak of #2, its sales are less than stellar - just 170,000. 29 All Saints were a criminally short-lived group. After huge success with their self-titled debut album in the late 90s, they returned in 2000 with their second album 'Saints & Sinners'. Its launch single was the glorious William Orbit produced 'Black Coffee', which became their 5th #1 single. Sadly the group split up in early 2001 due in-fighting within the group. They later returned in 2006/7 for an incredibly brief comeback, and then again in 2013 to tour with the Backstreet Boys - but so far no new material has emerged. 28 I watched the video of 'Hole In The Head' by the Sugababes earlier on today, I hadn't seen it for many years. This is most definitely my favourite single of theirs across the first three album eras, possibly not my favourite overall - that would be a toss up between 'Push The Button' and 'Red Dress' for me (both of which seem a little under-appreciated on this forum). I do miss 2.0 Sugababes in particular, and it certainly seems like a very long time ago since they formation was around. :( 27 'Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex' is one of the best ever debut singles. Quite a strong statement I know, but for me it is! Rachel Stevens really deserved #1 with it, but it had to make do with the runners up spot in September 2003. She released this a mere 3 months after S Club 7 split up. I have to admit I wasn't too upset when they announced that they would part ways, because I had started to get over them in 2002 - I'd moved onto fresher acts such as Liberty X. However, with the passing of time I looked back on S Club 7 with nostalgic affection, and I really can't wait to see them at their reunion tour next year. *.* 26 Speaking of which, S Club 7 are one place higher with 'Never Had A Dream Come True' which was a huge #1 in late 2000. It had a bit of a Christmassy feel to it - no doubt I'll play this song a few times over the next three weeks. 25 I wasn't particularly into Atomic Kitten in 1999 and 2000, and if they'd been dropped in late 2000 after their flop single 'Follow Me' then I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. Then they came out with 'Whole Again', which really was last chance saloon for the girls. It was their first single to really grab my attention and I had a good feeling that it would be the song to turn things around for them. I couldn't have predicted the extent of its huge success though. 'Whole Again' peaked at #1 in February 2001, and spent the entire month at #1. It went on to become one of the biggest selling singles of the year and eventually sold over 1 million copies. I think this is one of the best pop ballads of all time - it was quite a moment when I saw them perform it on the Big Reunion tour last year! 24 'It's The Way You Make Me Feel' is probably my favourite ever Steps single. I can never quite decide, its a close run thing between this and 'Say You'll Be Mine'. Anyway, this is their highest place single released in 2000/2001 at least. CDs of this single were sold in a small number of shops a week before the scheduled release date, resulting in this single entering at a lowly #72. A week later it climbed to #2 when it was fully released. Apparently the combined sales of its week at #72 and its week at #2 would have been enough for this to get to #1! The song which beat it to #1 was Rui Da Silva's 'Touch Me', which is one of my favourite ever dance singles (it placed at #105 earlier in this count down). 23 I can reveal that there's 4 Girls Aloud songs within my Top 20, and just outside at #23 is 'Jump', which in my opinion is Girls Aloud's best cover single by quite a distance. I was incredibly annoyed when this peaked at #2 - Westlife beat them to #1 with the rather terrible 'Mandy'. Jump sold just under 60,000 copies in its first week, which would have been enough to top the charts in three previous weeks. The most annoying thing about the Girls Aloud & Westlife clash was that they shared a manager at the time in Louis Walsh. He clearly didn't have Girls Aloud's best interests at heart; the girls later revealed that he was never there for them as a manager and that they essentially managed themselves in their early years. 'Jump' went on to be the higher selling single at least, with sales to date standing at over 250,000 copies. 22 Initially dubbed the "Popstars losers" by the press, Liberty showed that they had potential when their debut single 'Thinking It Over' entered the Top 5 in late 2001. However, it wasn't until their third single that the group completely silenced the critics. Following a name change, Liberty X triumphantly reached #1 with the incredibly catchy 'Just A Little'. Everyone seemed to loved the dance routine with the canes! Liberty X went on to achieve six more Top 10 hits before they called it a day in 2007. Like Atomic Kitten, they reunited for The Big Reunion at the end of 2012. 21 'Whenever Wherever' by Shakira must go down as one of the ultimate "should have been #1" singles in UK chart history! She was unfortunate enough to be scheduled in the same week that Pop Idol winner Will Young released his debut single, which reached #1 with a massive 1.1m copies sold. It's a real pity that 'Whenever Wherever' couldn't nab a week at #1 in another week, but nevertheless it did spend an impressive 7 consecutive weeks within the Top 5 and became one of the best selling singles of the 2000s decade. Shakira would later reach #1 with the 2006 release 'Hips Don't Lie'.
December 6, 201410 yr Author I'm finding it impossibly difficult to order my Top 20! :( I've been changing the order every now and again over the past month and I still can't settle for an order I'm completely happy with. I'm struggling to decide on my ultimate favourite song to put at #1 as well, it's hard to separate the songs I have towards the very top. Argh! I feel like any of the songs I've revealed in the 21-40 section could have been Top 20 too. I love too many songs from this era of music!
December 6, 201410 yr 'On A Night Like This' is one of Kylie's best for me  Now 'Whenever, Wherever' is one of my all time favourite songs :o would be v v high up of i was to do a countdown so yay for it here. Too low though x

December 7, 201410 yr Author Nice to see lots of Whenever Wherever loving! Thanks for your comments. Top 20 will commence very soon.
December 7, 201410 yr Also, 'Oops, I did it again', even though it's one of her biggest hits, never seems to be remembered as one of many people's favourites. Kinda underappreciated these days. It's flawless to me. That key change 'Oops I! DID IT AGAIN TO YOUR HEEAAART. GOT LOST IN GAME OH BABEH!'
December 10, 201410 yr Author 16 - Girls Aloud - The Show 17 - Beyoncé featuring Jay-Z - Crazy In Love 18 - Britney Spears - Born To Make You Happy 19 - Melanie C featuring Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes - Never Be The Same Again 20 - Anastacia - Left Outside Alone Featured Song: klCXBkn0VGs Top 20 time! Finally decided on an order that I'm fairly happy with... :drama: 20 Just making it into my Top 20 is 'Left Outside Alone' by Anastacia! This became her biggest hit in the UK to date, peaking at #3 and spending a very impressive 11 weeks inside the Top 10. It launched her self-titled third album, which peaked at #1 and was certified 4xPlatinum by the end of 2004. I was so pleased that she had a very successful year, particularly because the year previously she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she thankfully recovered from. Also, it was great to see her back in the Top 10 singles chart given that she hadn't achieved a Top 10 hit single since her 2000 debut 'I'm Outta Love'. 19 I think most of you are aware that I was (and still am!) a massive fan of the Spice Girls. However I felt really let down when Melanie C launched her solo career with 'Goin' Down' - it really wasn't for me, and wasn't well suited to my tastes as an 11 year old. I received her debut album 'Northern Star' on Christmas Day 1999, but I only gave it one listen - Steps' 'Steptacular' and S Club 7's 'S Club' were my albums of choice that Christmas. My apathy towards Melanie C soon ceased when she brought out her third single 'Never Be The Same Again' in early 2000, which features the late Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes. I thought this song was so cool~ and it appeared many others did too - it became her first #1 away from the Spice Girls! I also gave her album another chance in light of the fact that I loved the single, and realised that it really was rather good after all - it's probably my favourite solo album offering from the girls. 18 'Born To Make You Happy' was the final single from Britney Spears' debut album '...Baby One More Time'. After her first 3 singles peaked at #1, #3 and #5 respectively & given the huge sales of the album, it might have been something of a surprise that this single made it all the way to #1. It really deserved the position though and it's one of my favourite ever pop ballads. 17 17th might seem rather low for a song as celebrated as 'Crazy In Love', but it's by far Beyoncé's highest place song in my count down - her next highest is 'Naughty Girl' in 307th place! 'Crazy In Love' managed to spend 3 weeks at #1 in the UK despite the fact the album it came from, 'Dangerously In Love', was released a week earlier than it (and was a huge #1 itself). I've seen Beyoncé on tour three times, and this song is of course always a highlight moment in her shows. 16 Just missing out on the Top 15 is 'The Show' by Girls Aloud. This was the girls' first single to be taken from their second album 'What Will The Neighbours Say?', which was a new entry at #6 in the albums chart ten years ago this week. 'The Show' premiered around the time that I was revising and taking my GCSE exams, and was eventually released on the day I went on holiday to Corfu - so I couldn't buy it for a couple of weeks! I helped it attain its third week position of #12 though. x
December 10, 201410 yr I think you know how i feel about 'Born To Make You Happy' lol  v love ~ 'Crazy In Love' be my urban pie jam too B-)
December 10, 201410 yr The show and crazy in love are both amazing Born to make you happy is one of Britney's best songs and it feels really underrated by people for me :( It is so stunning and gorgeous so it's amazing to see it so high up here  Edited December 10, 201410 yr by Ultraviolence1989
