it's such a unique kind of song. as internet fans it is incredibly hard to detach from emotion of simone's passing and it makes the song more powerful. how good of a song is it without the knowledge of what it is about. will people like it when talking to jenny from human resources of a wednesday. will radio 1 dare playlist them.

many many unknows

I love the video. I Love the concept. But I just LIKE the song. I can't see it being something that would stand out on the radio the way 'Ugly Heart' did.

I didn't realise it was out so soon here. 2 weeks and it's only #1267 on iTunes. It would have been picked up on radio by now. So sadly, it doesn't look like this is going to much, if anything.

This is released on March 1st, right? If so that's longer than 2 weeks.

Ah, I saw Feb. In which case, the pre-order is doing very well at this stage.

I still don't think it's a hugely noticeable song on its own.

Actually, just saw on the latest release schedule it's now 9th March. It's been pushed back a week.

I am sure it has always been 8th March, that was the release date when I pre-ordered it on the first day it went on iTunes :)

i realised today that a single song has never made me cry on so many different occasions. i've lost count now. from when the crackly clip leaked early last year. the fragility the honesty and being a sufferer of depression myself on occasion it makes me feel tnat little bit better and all the while celebrating what was clearly a beautiful talent. i imagine it will also speak and help many many younger people out there feeling stuck or trapped and then ultimately simone's death has brought some good for the future.

'ugly heart' swept by me last year which is a little annoying but i've been able to enjoy it to its fullest at the same time as 'lighthouse'. both are totally and utterly f***ing incredible. 'ugly heart' unlike any pop song i've heard, huge and perfect for simone's last vocal and then 'lighthouse' well i've explained that enough. both should go down in the pop music canon and quite rightly.

Fantastic post there Jake, both tracks really are so brilliant in different ways. Ugly Heart is a storming pop track, something the chart seems to be totally lacking these days, and Lighthouse is stunning in every single way. So excited for the future of G.R.L. and an album in the not too distant future hopefully

The middle 8 is by far one of the best pop middle eights.

I figured Radio 1 would actually give them chance after they messed up with Ugly Heart.
So weird. I figured after the success of Ugly Heart and with how well Lighthouse has started out in other countries that people/radio would be jumping on this.
But the song just isn't strong enough. Ugly Heart caught on because it was so melodic and poppy. This just comes and goes.

I thought the tribute to Simone and the lyrics to the track had meaning and was lovely but I wasn't hearing this 'big smash' that people were predicting.

I'm not surprised that it's not doing much anywhere, the chorus lets it down. The verses and the bridge build and the chorus sinks it.

Shame because I don't want this to end them. They just need more Ugly Heart goodness.

I'm kinda... not over this per se but I'm not fully loving as much as I did at first. Ugly Heart is certainly better. I was caught up in the emotion of it being about Simone, the hype etc. and just the fact they finally released something else after the tragedy (I thought they might just end the band) but there has been so many songs I've loved already this year and whilst I really enjoy this it isn't something I'm stanning or properly loving.

I can't see this being as big as Ugly Heart because that was a relatable, catchy song whereas I agree that in general the public won't connect with this like most of us are because they probably won't be aware of the story behind it.

Glad people are finally saying it. I love the video/sentiment, but the song on its own just isn't very memorable. I've tried getting into it and it's just not happening.
I never liked the song for the sentimental element. I don't really stan for them like that. I just think it's a damn good song.

Think this could actually miss the top 40 in the UK now.

It's not really performing that well on pre-orders. I know it still has three weeks before release but with it not being in the top 1,500 I heavily doubt that Capital and Radio 1 will support 'Lighthouse' so late what is such a great shame as it could be difficult for them to rebound and get airplay support.
