While writing down this week's top 40 I noticed that no less than 30 entries dropped from last week's positions which is just over three quarters of the maximum 39 although this would have to achieved by having the number 1 as a new entry and 2-40 all went down a place. Anyone know if this has been bettered as I find it a staggering statistic.

I love looking at statistics and records (OCD :kink:) but there are so many types of records and statistics you could think of so the more obscure the record is, the harder it is to calculate whether a record is broken or not, or if anyone else has done it before. Hanboo who died a few months in July had a very complete database on the top 200 UK Singles chart meaning he could create queries on stats and records for requesters on the forum.

 

I don't see this as a type of stat/record that is that obscure so maybe someone on Buzzjack will have created a thread on most fallers in the top 40 or something?

Still, the falls aren't that big though...

 

Logically where a song falls down a lot of places, the songs previously below it now above it have more chance of climbing, therefore because of the small falls/climbs there will be less chance of songs climbing up, causing a tidal wave of fallers. At least in my experience :unsure:

 

I also believe that stream inclusions have kept the chart more 'stale-risky'.

 

Anyone noticed that the number of top 100 non-movers are much less common after streaming was included?

 

Also to answer zenon's question, I doubt it is a record, but is entirely possible. We've had thousands of top 40's since the 50s so as with everything the more 'attempts' to beat a record reduce the chance of breaking it...

That is true, I think back to mid-00's where there'd be numerous fallers but all/most of a high nature, leaving there room for more new entries. These days we're getting many fallers but still just fallers within the top 40 so their progress out of the chart seems slower and there's less space available for potential new entrants.

Looking at one of those at random, the w/e 9/9/00 there wasn't a single riser or non-mover in the Top 75 let alone the Top 40, everything was either NE/RE/faller.

Yes, Madonna's Music entered at #1, the previous week's top 10 went down one place (#2 to #11), followed at #12 with the new entry of Daphne & Celeste's take on School's Out.

 

I also remember the week in 14-4-2001 when there were no entries, re-entries, climbs or non-movers in the positions from #20 to #40. All the 6 NE, one re-entry and two non-movers that week were all within #1-#19.
