Take That’s first release as a three piece, III, has become the most pre-ordered album of all time on Amazon UK.

The album, which features Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald is released on December 1.

The album has overtaken recently appointed all-time pre-order front-runners, Pink Floyd’s The Endless River, Robbie Williams’ Swings Both Ways and One Direction’s Midnight Memories.

It’s Take That’s third entry in Amazon’s Top 10 most pre-ordered artist albums of all time.

The band also overtake the likes of Coldplay, Paolo Nutini and Ed Sheeran in the Top 10 pre-order artist albums of 2014 chart.

“The competition is heating up as Olly Murs, One Direction and Take That, to name a few, battle for the Christmas No.1 spot. It’s an exciting twist to see that only a few days before release Take That have swept in and taken the top spot on Amazon pre-orders,” said director of Amazon EU digital music, Steve Bernstein. “We’ll all be eagerly anticipating who comes out on top, but it’s great to see such a much loved UK band continue with such success.”

Was preordering TT's album on Amazon linked to presale for their tour?

Edited by truly talented

Someone already stated that the above list is probably based on what had been shipped to stores prior to an album's release and I'd agree. There's absolutely no way that III is the largest pre-ordered album in the history of public buying and furthermore there's no way that Never Been Better is the fifth highest pre-ordered album of this year higher than the likes of AC/DC, Foo Fighters, Paolo and Ed.

Don't they just mean on Amazon? That's why I asked about preorders being linked to tour ticket pre sales as I know others in the list have done that and would explain how they figure high in the chart.

I can't wait to see the Christmas songs sprint up the chart on Monday the 1st. Mariah is doing so well already, Would be good to see Leona enter the top 200 officially next Sunday and the top 100 on iTunes within the week.

Take That have a 0.1238 lead on Band Aid now, I can't see Band Aid managing a second week at number 1 this weekend at least. Unless that David Guetta remix drops today or tomorrow.

David Guetta featuring Band Aid - how can he remix that? Would sound awful

Apparently he's not the only one. Bob said last week Calvin, Disclosure and High Contrast were interested, too.

Has Taylor overtaken yet? From my calculations she's 1.0042 combined :o

Olly Murs is even further ahead with two more versions in the top 40

All so close this week! :o Possibly could be the first time we have a different sales and official #1.

Yes, if you pre-ordered it on Amazon or their official store you got a pre-sale code. Knowing that some hardcore fans attend dozens of gigs they probably pre-ordered loads of times and using different sites/email addresses you could get numerous chances if you had loads of email accounts. I ordered the Deluxe signed version and then the standard one for my parents and ended up with two - though I'm only going once.

I'm thinking it definitely will be now. Take That being the first ever beneficiaries of this is however not something I would have forseen!

Take That seem to have the uncanny ability to adapt to any new music buying climate, they're almost invincible to market changes.

That said, it's not exactly flying up the Spotify chart yet so if their (3k-4k?) streams give them the edge would literally be by default due to Band Aid having zero streams.

I totally agree, their 3 previous albums since they reformed and from i have heard from the new album they certainly have managed to adapt to the new music buying climate but at the same they have still managed to hold their own Take That sound to their music in the process.
