Posted December 17, 201410 yr What songs will benefit the most from the gift card effect this year? Uptown Funk, All About That Bass, All Of Me, Rather Be, Happy, Budapest, Stay With Me, Thinking Out Loud, Steal My Girl, Shake It Off, Ghost, Sing, Chandelier and Waves come to mind, will there be any "surprising" beneficiaries of this effect though? discuss
December 17, 201410 yr If the same 59 batch stays up, those will all benefit heavily, as most of them have been pretty big hits this year.
December 17, 201410 yr Yep, pretty much all of the above, plus the three Calvin Harris singles of 2014 will probably get a bit of a boost.
December 17, 201410 yr I'd put 'Money on my Mind' in there too Really Rob? I'd say 'I'm Not The Only One' and 'Like I Can' would benefit more than MOMM.
December 17, 201410 yr The more recent singles by some of the acts you've mentioned ('Night Changes' and 'Blank Space' in particular) should also get a decent bump, would also expect Olly Murs to benefit a fair amount with both 'Wrapped Up' and 'Up' sans Wrapped. I think the 'only old hits get a boost' thing is exaggerated sometimes, the big hits around just before Xmas tend to benefit just as much as the established older hits.
December 17, 201410 yr Really Rob? I'd say 'I'm Not The Only One' and 'Like I Can' would benefit more than MOMM. yeah I included it because it was another of his #1's and was around the chart for donkeys years but I guess you could be right. Edited December 17, 201410 yr by HonkBonkXMAS

December 17, 201410 yr Problem by Ariana will get a *small* boost I'd reckon along with Ghost although the latter has already been mentioned :P Edited December 17, 201410 yr by NellyXmas. S
December 17, 201410 yr More importantly, which not so big hits like Skip To The Good Bit will get a boost? :P
December 17, 201410 yr Pretty much everything in the current top 40 bar the XF winners single and Band Aid 30 (+ Christmas songs and 'alternative' campaigns). Streaming will make this even bigger than it already is I think what with New Years party playlists and all. Edited December 17, 201410 yr by FrostytheWallaby
December 17, 201410 yr If the effect lasts more than a week, anything featured on the New Years fireworks could get a good boost. I think 'Rather Be' will be the biggest beneficiary of the effect. Would quite like 'Outside' to get a boost out of it, or something a bit more obscure like 'Faded' by Zhu. I can only dream about the latter, I suppose. :P
December 17, 201410 yr Plus it's playing every weekend morning over Christmas in cinemas, sort of how Despicable Me 2 was this time last year - which had a mildly popular Pharrell Williams song in it. Edited December 17, 201410 yr by BillyH
December 17, 201410 yr If the effect lasts more than a week, anything featured on the New Years fireworks could get a good boost. I think Ghost is a shoo-in for the NYE fireworks, works very neatly! Edited December 17, 201410 yr by zenon
December 17, 201410 yr I think a lot of stream-loved hits will benefit, but it's not very easy to predict! And this is the first season with the combined chart!
December 17, 201410 yr If "Happy" has a major impact due to the gift card effect, that means it will be the first to benefit from this two consecutive years
December 17, 201410 yr If "Happy" has a major impact due to the gift card effect, that means it will be the first to benefit from this two consecutive years I reckon it will be enough to reach perhaps #30-#40 in the chart, even though it will be a painful experience for all of us :(
December 17, 201410 yr I reckon it will be enough to reach perhaps #30-#40 in the chart, even though it will be a painful experience for all of us :( Maybe even #1 tbh. I'm thinking Thinking Out Loud will get a sales boost aswell.
December 17, 201410 yr Maybe even #1 tbh. I'm thinking Thinking Out Loud will get a sales boost aswell. Happy isn't going back to #1
