Robbie ... showing his skills

POP heartthrob Robbie Williams tries to entertain you ... on the football field.

The singer showed off his skills in an 11-a-side match with his band and some pros while on tour in South Africa.

But despite three good chances in front of goal, the 32-year-old Port Vale fan failed to hit the back of the net.

The former Take That star’s team  dressed in red  were soundly beaten 7-5.

Red marvel... in action

And poor Robbie even had trouble with his kit as he was forced to stop and hitch up his shorts.

No chance to Sing When You’re Winning then Robbie!

I hope his shorts are fixed before the Soccer Aid event. Wouldn't it just be terrible if they landed round his ankles with all those millions watching on TV? :o I for one would be totally traumatised by the sight.
It would be a bit of a shame wouldn't it for him to lose his shorts. I mean we wouldn't know where to look would we, we'd have shut our eyes in modesty. as IF.

Intensive Care the biggest selling album in Europe :cheer:

James Blunt and Robbie Williams' albums have gone five-times platinum, say the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). Blunt's debut album Back to Bedlam passed the five million mark across Europe and continues to sell well.

Williams also gained a fifth platinum level for European sales for his latest album Intensive Care.

The Rolling Stones, Katie Melua, Zucchero and Radiohead were the other artists to win Platinum Europe Awards.

Back to Bedlam propelled Blunt to stardom and earned him two Brit awards this year - best pop act and best male solo artist.

The former soldier released the album in October 2004 and it has gone nine-times platinum in the UK alone, where it was the best selling album of 2005.

Intensive Care is Williams' eighth studio album and was the biggest selling title in Europe last year, despite only being released in October.

It has sold in 19 countries, and mirrors the success of his 2004 Greatest Hits album which also passed the five million copy mark last month.

Radiohead's critically acclaimed third album OK Computer has now sold more than three million copies in Europe.

The album won a Grammy for best alternative album after its 1997 release, and often tops best ever album opinion polls.

Katie Melua's second album Piece By Piece equalled the European success of her debut Call Off The Search by selling more than two million copies.

The 21-year-old singer-songwriter, has enjoyed widespread success since being spotted as a student in a Brits School showcase.

Zucchero's Zu & Co achieved its first million sales in Europe as a whole, even though it has gone four-times platinum in his native Italy.

The album features duets with Miles Davis, Sheryl Crow, Paul Young, Brian May, Sting and The Cranberries' Delores O'Riordan.

The Rolling Stones album A Bigger Bang also sold its first one million copies in Europe.

The September 2005 release accompanies the world tour of the same name, and is the long awaited follow-up to 1997's studio album Bridges to Babylon.

ROBBIE'S SO SNOBBY

ROBBIE Williams turned diva in South Africa - ordering flunkies to move him after his hotel name was leaked and refusing to sign autographs or pose for fan snaps

BERLIN (Reuters) - A new mobile phone that includes a link into Robbie Williams' Web site and plays his songs is another step in a "digital revolution" that the recording industry must take advantage of, not spurn, his manager said.

Williams, one of Europe's most successful entertainers, has angered music industry executives in the past by praising internet piracy, once even calling it a "great idea".

In an interview ahead of the pop singer's world tour, which starts on Monday, his manager Tim Clark said the industry should classify digital music seekers as customers, not criminals.

Defending the piracy comments, Clark said: "The recording companies are taking a big stick to people who are not criminals at all.

"What Williams means is that if we can't provide the fans with the wherewithal to do it (download) legally, frankly it's our fault and not theirs. If they're not providing the carrots, they're leaving it to others who will."

Clark said Williams, who in October live-streamed a Berlin concert to 100,000 mobile phones, wanted to push the "digital revolution" further. He said the new phone made with T-Mobile and Sony Ericsson was just another step towards that aim.

"Digital sales are a reality -- it's clear that the physical sales (of music) are dropping at double-digit percentage rates," said Clark, one of Williams' two managers, when asked why the star was teaming up with firms outside the recording industry.

"Digital sales already mean a great deal in places like Korea and Japan. We want to be involved because people like T-Mobile and Sony will have a huge influence on how music is distributed. We need to be involved to have some influence.

"It's about being part of that future," he added. "Even though there might be some drawbacks now -- some people say the quality of compressed music is not as good as CDs. They are right, but that will improve dramatically over time."

The "Walkman" phone to be unveiled on Monday contains Williams' music and live video clips, and links to his Web site.

Williams, 32, launches his five-month world tour in Durban, South Africa. Encompassing 40 concerts in 14 countries, it is his first tour in three years, and entered the Guinness book of world records for the fastest-selling concert after 1.6 million tickets worth $187 million sold out in hours on November 19.

Interesting....... :o

Must admit all this Technology makes me a bit

I yearn for the days of old Vinyl Records.

LOL Jupiter! :D I recently threw away some old LPs and my girls thought they were hilarious! Have to admit they do look a bit large nowadays! But there is something very special about a gatefold sleeve isn't there?! I had to keep some of the really special ones

I've still got a few of my 1970s 'Top of the Pops' albums. The ones with the scantily clad females on the front. And it was just session singers, not the original artists.

But you could buy one of them and still have change from your 50p pocket money to spend in the Woolies Pic n Mix. So all was well with the world. :cheer:

Charlotte Church To Move In With Robbie Williams

Charlotte Church is proving she has friends in high places by becoming Robbie Williams’ house mate!

The Welsh singer is planning a 3 month working holiday in Los Angeles and her mum Maria has suggested staying with Robbie while she is there.

However, Church’s boyfriend, Welsh rugby player Gavin Henson is reportedly seriously pissed off that his woman will be spending so much time with Robbie.

A source told the Daily Star: “Robbie and Charlotte have both been in the business for so long. He looks out for her like a brother would.

“When she was younger Robbie would keep an eye out for her. He’s aware of the pressures that come with hitting the big time early.

“Maria was worried about Charlotte being on her won in LA for so long, so she asked if Robbie could put her up.â€Â

“Gavin couldn’t see the sense in it. To him, there’s a handsome successful bloke that many women adore and his girlfriend is to stay with him.â€Â

Maybe tangoed Gavin would be a little more attractive if he didn’t stink so badly of desperation…

Williams' manager defends music pirates

Robbie Williams' manager has hailed the digital audio market and defended the singer's outspoken views on music piracy.

Tim Clark has spoken out as the star launches a new mobile phone which links to his online music and video.

Williams has irritated the music industry in the past by defending illegal downloading of music. He reportedly once called it a "great idea".

Clark offered an explanation of the ex-Take That member's views. "What Williams means is that if we can't provide the fans with the wherewithal to do it legally, frankly it's our fault and not theirs," he explained. "If they're not providing the carrots, they're leaving it to others who will."

He added: "The recording companies are taking a big stick to people who are not criminals at all."

The manager continued to say that Williams was keen to be involved in the digital future of music. "Digital sales are a reality – it's clear that the physical sales are dropping at double-digit percentage rates," said Clark. "It's about being part of that future.

"Even though there might be some drawbacks now – some people say the quality of compressed music is not as good as CDs. They are right, but that will improve dramatically over time."

Robbie Williams fans start your engines, your man has been here for two days (he flew into Durban on Saturday, having changed his original plans to arrive this morning) and is now raring to go.

Williams, who has been keeping a pretty low profile in Cape Town for the past two weeks but has managed to party as well, is promising to rock the socks off this city. He opens his world tour here today in front of 40 000 fans, many of whom have flown in from overseas.

Preparations for the show, especially the actual staging, are very hush-hush.

Williams, who is a showman of note, has brought 35 of his own crew with him. In the business, Williams and his production team are known for laying on spectacular concerts. So expect the unexpected.

It is his first tour in three years, and entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest selling concert after 1.6 million tickets worth $187 million (R1.1 billion) sold out in hours on November 19.

For those wanting to be at the forefront of things - within hand-shake distance if he does a duck into the pit, there are two holding areas (one for golden circle, one for field tickets) that have been open since 10am this morning.

Arm bands are being handed out for those in the holding areas so that they can leave the area and return when the gates open at 5pm.

UK support act Wired Daisies are due to open the concert at 6.30pm, followed by Freshly Ground at 7.30pm and then Robbie at 9pm.

While Durban is the first stop in his five-month world tour, including 40 concerts in 14 countries, the savvy entertainer achieves another milestone today when a new cellphone is launched that includes a link into Robbie Williams's website and plays his songs

.

It is another step in a "digital revolution" that the recording industry must take advantage of, not spurn, his manager said.

The "Walkman" phone to be unveiled today contains Williams's music and live video clips.

Much of this has already been posted but here is an article from the Scottish Daily Record today :)

Well for Rob it is anyway

It say that Basment Jazz & The ordinary boys are suppporing him but are they playing in Dublin  as well as Beautiful south

LOL Jupiter - some warm up. :D

I am confused too Scotty about Beautiful South, they even had their own blurb put out didn't they. So are they still appearing or cancelled out. <_<

Do you think the fact additional tix are being released means we can rule out a stadium gig?

Looking like Knebworth or Hyde Park or somewhere isn't it?

I agree. I reckon the gigs will be moved to a park or field somewhere.

MK Bowl doesn't do it for me :( It's nothing, compared to Twickenham Stadium or Hyde Park.

I would perfer if it was held @ Millennium Stadium (Cardiff) or City Of Manchester Stadium :D

I think not many people are keen on MK, I know I am not. :(

How far is MK from London, does anyone know. Its miles from where I live and not easy to get too. Maybe going from London would be quicker and easier.

I'd much rather it was a stadium anywhere than another field. <_<

How far is MK from London, does anyone know.

I live in London and the MK Bowl is 49 miles from where I live! Trains from London go to MK Central (takes 30 - 60 minutes)

I don't see it being in Knebworth cause it would be 3 nights again and he's done that already so it's pointless if you ask me.
