Terry answers Robbie's call

May 17 2006

By Ben Jervis , Crewe Chronicle

A BANJO player has hit all the right notes in being chosen to play on a song for Robbie Williams's new album.

Terry Taylor, of Lord Street, Crewe, received a phone call from Robbie's producers to attend a recording session at an unnamed studio in the North West last month.

The 57-year-old, who was also asked to play the harmonica on another track, explained: 'I was surprised, pleased and apprehensive but it was a good vibe with just a couple of takes for each instrument.'

The as yet unnamed album is the Stoke-born superstar's follow-up to the hugely successful Intensive Care and Escapology albums.

But Terry says details of the album's release are being kept under wraps for the time being.

He said: 'I can't really say too much about it because they are still putting the album and the tracks together.

'Robbie was in Los Angeles at the time so I didn't get to meet him but I heard his vocals on the song and he sings it well and the banjo gives it the edge.'

Terry who has played with rock, blues, folk and country bands over the years, added: 'I have been teaching banjo, guitar and harmonica for the previous few years in Crewe and have my own album out in America called Another Time.

'I feel I got the call from Robbie because I have been playing for years and have developed my own distinctive style.'

Is the banjo and harmonica on the new 'Dance Album' then?   Or is there a Hillybilly Rock album in the making that we don't know about?

Robbie Williams' alien cult plans

Tuesday, 16th May 2006, 12:47

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Robbie Williams wants to start his own mystical religion... dedicated to extra-terrestrials.

The heartthrob singer hopes his bizarre alien faith will be as big as celebrity favourite, Scientology, which counts A-list stars like Tom Cruise and John Travolta among its followers.

He came up with the plan after reading about the late L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology - which teaches that aliens created the world.

He told BBC Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans: "If L. Ron Hubbard can start a cult, then so can I.

"I'm not going to start it right now because I'm too busy. But I want to do it. I think the cult will have to wait until next year. But it will be free and universal."

The religion would reportedly be aimed at people who share Robbie's long-running fixation with aliens.

Last year the singer claimed the world would soon be invaded by little green men.

He said: "I've been dreaming every night about UFO's. I can't wait to go to sleep at night because those dreams have been so brilliant.

"I think they are definitely on their way, seriously. Mark my words. From now until 2012 - watch out kids."

Robbie has also claimed he had premonitions San Francisco was going to be destroyed by an earthquake, but says extra-terrestrials prevented the disaster.

I will repeat myself here I know, but humour me guys..

With all the resurrected reports of Robbie quitting touring and maybe as a result not being so prolific, (which I cannot see him sitting still for long) who the hell is there out on the Pop scene who can come up with all these wonderful musings..headlines...or anything..

Don't leave us Robbie :(

Dido. James Blunt. Katie Melua.

There. Ain't that enough excitement to be going on with? ;)

I agree with you Susie. Apart from Robbie and the Gallagher Bros there seems to be nobody in music these days with any kind of personality. They are all just so sensible, safe and nicey nicey.

So much for life in the fast lane Rock n Roll....

Oh, there is always Pete Doherty.

Robbie to end career in Oz

ROBBIE Williams will put his touring career on hold after a farewell gig in Melbourne.

Williams' world tour will end in Australia in December, with Melbourne the last stop.

He will play at Telstra Dome on December 17, with tickets on sale from June 6 at Ticketmaster.

"I'm not going to tour for a long time after this tour," Williams said.

"For me this tour is a year-long celebration of what I've achieved as a solo artist. It comes in the form of getting on stage in stadiums.

"After that I'll say thank you very much. It's not something I want to do again for a long time." Williams' 2006 world tour has sold out at stadiums throughout Europe and Britain. The tour set a world record last year by selling more than 1.6 million tickets in a single day, beating a record held by 'N Sync. The tour is expected to be seen by 2.5 million people this year. Australian promoter Michael Chugg said Williams would bring the full overseas production down under. The show features a stage that snakes into the crowd, bringing Williams close to fans.

SHOOTING STARS

Ant and Dec are your hosts as Robbie Williams captains England against Gordon Ramsay’s Rest of the World team in a celebrity football match in aid of UNICEF

The World Cup in Germany beckons ever nearer and with injuries throwing manager Sven-Goran Eriksson’s plans in disarray, he needs all the help he can get.

So don’t be surprised to see a spy in the stands as an England side managed by Euro 96 boss Terry Venables take on Rudd Gullit’s Rest of the World X1 on Saturday 27 May at Old Trafford.

The squads are being captained by entertainer extraordinaire Robbie Williams And celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, and each contains 11 celebrities and 5 World Cup greats.

Nightly programmes, presented by Ant and Dec, will follow them as their respective managers try to knock them into shape for the big match, which is being staged in aid of UNICEF.

“It’s going to be great-Robbie versus Ramsay,†says Ant.

“They’ll both want to win, especially Ramsay. He seems like a fit bloke.

Every time you watch Kitchen Nightmares he’s always taking his top off isn’t he?â€

Although the game is for charity, Dec expects the players to take it pretty seriously.

“We watched The Match on Sky One, and you think it’s going to be all friendly with the celebrities and legends, but it gets quite heated out on the pitchâ€,

With that in mind, neither is too disappointed not to be pulling on their boots themselves,

“We didn’t get the call from Robbieâ€, explains Ant, “but I wouldn’t like to humiliate myself out their anywayâ€. “In any caseâ€, adds Dec “you get more money if you present, wheras if you play it all goes to UNICEF.

All this talk about Rob retiring after the Aussie leg is EXACTLY THE SAME as what happened in 2003  . He may not do a huge tour again but I am sure we haven't seen the last from him.

And all this new album stuff....well its sounding like its for real. Aussie papers are saying it will be released in September. Do you all think its true...I just assumed it to be tabloid rubbish

To be honest, I don't know what to make of it all really.

I expect there will be different genres on the new album, and not just dance.

Robbie to entertain us?

POP superstar Robbie Williams could be coming to Weston this summer - to support his cousin's up and coming music career.

The former Take That star could be visiting the resort to support Nathan Williams, who is appearing on stage with his band Devious Phat next month.

Band frontman Nathan claims he is related to the multi-platinum selling artiste.

Former Wyvern Community School pupil Nathan, aged 17, has contacted the pop megastar to ask him to the band's EP launch at Barcode in Weston the day before T4's mega pop party on the beach. The EP is called Get Devious.

T4 television crews will be filming the launch, when the five-piece band will be performing at the South Parade youth cafe. Footage will then be shown as part of Channel Four's coverage of the T4 seafront music festival taking place on June 18.

Perry March, who manages Devious Phat along with Baz Andrews and Adrian Honour, said: "Nathan has an uncanny likeness to Robbie. His attitude is the same, he is a natural frontman and a real character. "

Nathan, who was only a year old when Robbie was catapulted to international fame as a member of boy band Take That, met fellow Devious Phat members Migs, Bettsy, Jason and Ricky when they were at Wyvern Community School together.

The band will play a special 'thank you' gig at Wyvern next Thursday for pupils only.

Talented young singer Nathan, who is currently studying music practice at Weston College, said: "I've not been singing for a very long time. I wasn't even a singer before I joined the band. It all happened very quickly for me. One minute I was agreeing to sing in a school assembly and next there I was in a band."

Multi-millionaire Robbie, who has been linked to a string of beautiful women including Rod Stewart's ex Rachel Hunter and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, split from Take That in 1996 and launched a hugely successful solo career.

Nathan, who says his idols include Axl Rose of Guns N' Roses and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, says he enjoys performing as much as his famous cousin appears to.

He said: "There is no better feeling than coming off stage after a gig."

Devious Phat will perform for private guests, including Weston's mayor and MP John Penrose, on the afternoon of June 17 and then Barcode will throw open its doors to the public from 7pm onwards. Record companies including BMG and Robbie's record label EMI, have also requested tickets to the band's Barcode gig.

The Devious Phat lads will arrive in style in a Mercedes limousine and tread the red carpet for the first time.

Entry wristbands for the evening event, priced £2 to include a three-track EP, are available on 01934 641117 or 0770 2676540.

It has not yet been confirmed whether Robbie will don his shades and take to the sands of Weston.

He has recently been linked to the Pet Shop Boys - one of the bands appearing at T4 on the Beach this year.

Robbie Williams' football ambition

u.tv

Pop star Robbie Williams has revealed he would rather be a footballer than a singer.

The Stoke-on-Trent-born musician admits choosing the wrong career on a television chat show.

Williams appears with ex-England coach Terry Venables on the Friday Night With Jonathan Ross programme to talk about their forthcoming involvement in Soccer Aid.

Port Vale fan Robbie captains the England team, which is managed by Venables.

Williams said: "I love football, I`m so passionate about it, I`d rather be a footballer than a singer."

But he admitted being unable to match the fitness of his opposing captain, Gordon Ramsay, who leads the Rest of the World team, managed by former Chelsea and Newcastle United boss Ruud Gullit.

"I was shamed into starting the training," the singer said.

"I`d been out on a late one, switched the TV on to see Gordon Ramsay finishing the marathon. He`s really competitive, a great fella, I want to be him."

Venables, on the other hand, talked about his ambitions to be a singer.

He told the host: "I`d like to have been a singer, I sang with Joe Loss (but) they`d say, stick to the football."

Exclusive

By Jo Rostron

IT'S OFFICIAL. Pop legend Robbie Williams has been spotted in South Kirkby, warming up for his world tour.

The YEP revealed last week that the star was heading for the £2m studio on Langthwaite Grange Industrial Estate where the set for his tour is being built.

Today we can reveal that the singer was there this week.

His production team have been at the Litestructures Rehearsal Arena for the last four weeks.

Yesterday sound checks were being carried out at the spot where the band and backing singers could be heard rehearsing for the tour which kicks off in Dublin on June 9.

Adrian Brooks, owner of studios, told the YEP: "Robbie was here for about an hour on Tuesday. We are surprised he took time out to come down here because the set is going over to Brussels now for a full rehearsal which is where he will be next week."

The studios, which are tucked away on the sprawling industrial estate, are the biggest in the UK and provide a discreet spot for stars to put together stages and sets for tours.
