Live 8 Photo Book being published-

McCartney brother shares gig photos

(Thursday June 29, 2006 11:41 AM)

The brother of Sir Paul McCartney has launched a book of behind-the-scenes photographs from last summer's Live8 concert in London.

Mike McCartney, a photographer and former member of 1960s band The Scaffold, is donating all the proceeds from the book to the Live Aid Trust.

The limited edition Live8 Coolpix book includes candid shots of stars such as Robbie Williams giving an unidentified woman a massage, :o as well as pictures of Sir Paul's estranged wife, Heather.

Mike, 62, who was cleared earlier this year of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old waitress, said the pictures were "just snaps from a family day out".

He added: "It began as a nice family day out in Hyde Park, but when you find yourself backstage at the greatest show on Earth and bump into Brad Pitt, Madonna, George Michael, U2, Annie Lennox, Bill Gates, the Beckhams, Kofi Annan, Paris Hilton, Robbie Williams, Snoop Dog, Peter Kay, Pink Floyd etc, it would be rude not to take their photo."

Only 1,000 editions of the book, which costs £60 for a signed copy and £30 unsigned, have been printed.

Copies will be available on eBay and from the O8 Place in Whitechapel, Liverpool.

Like the bit where he said it just started as a nice family day out :o

Wish my nice family days out included all them stars, mine normally consist of a picnic at the seaside :P

Music giants square up in transatlantic takeover tussle Jun 29 2006

Daily Post

MUSIC giant EMI and US rival Warner Music were locked in a takeover tug-of-war yesterday as both companies battled to take control of each other.

EMI - home to Coldplay,, Gorillaz and Robbie Williams - said yesterday it had rejected a 320p-a-share offer from Warner which valued the company at £2.54bn.

The Warner bid came in response to a £2.52bn offer from London-based EMI, which the US firm rejected last night as the two traded blows with a series of takeover proposals.

The frenzied bidding activity sent shares in EMI 9% higher today to 309p. A tie-up between the two music giants has long been regarded as a strong possibility as the pair have circled each other for years, with agreements almost reached in 2000, 2001 and 2003. The combined music company would be the third largest in the world behind Universal Music and Sony, and would bring EMI's artists together with the likes of Madonna, from Warner.

Worst things could happen than EMI being taken over IMO. Their promotion of Robbie is rubbish.

PALMER-TOMKINSON

Eva Simpson & Caroline Hedley

LOOKS like the flames of passion are still burning between Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Robbie Williams.

The usually talkative socialite came over all coy when asked about her relationship with the superstar singer. She said: "We are still good friends, but I don't want to spoil anything by saying any more."

So there is obviously something to spoil then, Tara?

They had an article in either The Sun or the Star yesterday about how her nose is collapsing. -_-

Kylie wows Elton's bash

The Sun

POP princess Kylie Minogue and regal Elizabeth Hurley reigned supreme last night at Sir Elton John’s star-studded annual charity ball.

Kylie, 38, used the White Tie and Tiara Ball to return to the party scene after beating breast cancer.

The singer — wearing £3million in diamonds. including a 16-carat white gold necklace worth £2.5million — called it her “official coming outâ€.â€

And teenage Princesses Beatrice, 17, and Eugenie, 16, turned up in daring outfits with plunging necklines.

Actress Liz, 41, sported a sparkling diamond headdress and a ring with an exquisite 31-carat Chopard rock.

Among the other guests at 59-year-old Elton’s Berkshire mansion were chart stars James Blunt and Robbie Williams, TV girl Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and supermodel Kate Moss.

They were entertained by Indian musicians and dancers in a giant marquee decorated in the style of a Raj palace.

Sources said Elton took advice on the menu from Liz’s Indian boyfriend Arun Nayer. One said: “We weren’t talking onion bhajis and poppadoms, it was the best fine dining.â€

The bash raised money for Aids and an Indian charity.

Summit puts safety first on Robbie Williams

http://www.lsionline.co.uk/news/images/006/8B9/0068B99E05.jpg

Worldwide - Summit Steel is supplying all production rigging equipment for the European stadium section, and rigging consultancy and crew (under direction of Head rigger Jez Craddick) for the whole of Robbie Williams' Close Encounters world tour.

The first half of 2006 has been Summit's busiest period ever, resulting in the purchase of over 70 new Lodestar hoists from Lift-Turn-Move - complete with customised rain covers - in order to supply the 110 hoists required to service Close Encounters. These are in addition to the 200 hoists that have been in action on Summit's other work during this period.

Motor control throughout the rig is all standard fixed-speed units. Summit commissioned Kinesys to design and build eight brand new customised 4-way 'briefcase' controllers and another four 6-way modules to the same spec as Summit's existing Ibex design for use on the tour, which is being project managed by Summit's Chris Walker.

Walker has worked closely with Jeremy Lloyd, the tour's technical design director and production manager Wob Roberts. With the set, staging, lighting, sound and video systems all being so physically integrated - and virtually all of it custom built for the tour - large amounts of time were spent in advance doing test builds and establishing the best methods for rigging the various elements. Much of this is complex, requires great precision and has generated some imaginative lateral thinking.

More off-beat 'rigging tasks' include areas like the O-lite video panels, which are slid up into their special frames (known as 'tusks') being pulled by hoists. Devising and installing safety systems was an area of primary importance for the Summit team.

With the set consisting of exposed metalwork needing to be accessed at any time, and also because it's outdoors with no roof, standard fall arresters weren't an option. Instead, Summit has designed a system of static rope safety lines with inbuilt shock absorbers at the top. Walker also recommended that all personnel and crew needing to access any of the set or flown pieces use a Petzl ASAP, which clips around the rope and runs up and down as they climb.

In the 'Scorpions' Tails', Summit has installed a series of Tirsafe safety lines - rated for having a number of people fall on them at any one time - and necessary because of the construction, nature and accessibility of these set pieces. Linked to the safety systems, Summit also drew up a 'Rescue at Height' policy and a set of safety procedures and risk assessments based on the new Work At Height regulations.

Touring crew were trained on rope rescue during the lengthy pre-production period at LiteStructures in Wakefield. Summit then supplied the tour with the same Rope Rescue kits for the universal and advanced touring systems. Summit co-ordinated with The Event Safety Shop, the tour's Health and Safety consultants throughout.

Chris Walker says "Being brought in to the project at an early stage enabled us to get involved with a lot of the design details and to try to solve as many potential problems as possible before the tour started. It was great to be working with Wob Roberts and the Robbie Williams team again; it's a pleasure to work with people who want everything to be done properly."
