There's plenty of times when you struggle to do your charts because there's nothing good to put in and then there's other times when a load of good songs come together and you end up with the whole top 5 fighting to get to No.1

What are the best weeks in your charts - and the worst?

In the past few years, the best week for me was 17 August 2013 where the whole top 4 would have made excellent No.1s

The worst was most of 2012, particularly 25 August 2012 ("Power and Control" by Marina and the Diamonds No.1 for a third week - probably only deserved a No.2 or 3 placing at best!)

The best times for me in 2014 were Let It Go in Jan + Feb, Lana in April, the week Ghost went to #1 as it was something like 6 new entries in the top 10, Crazy stupid love released week (5 new in top 10), Shake It Off's release week and all of November/December

Weak times in 2014 were the week let me down gently got to #1 (it ended up around 98 on EOY chart and the other contender was like 80 on EOY chart I think), First 3 weeks of August and October. Also the next couple of weeks will be weak as there is no massive hit like let it go/I knew you were trouble

2007 represented both ends of the spectrum for me. I had a succession of #1s in the summer - Gwen Stefani's 4 In The Morning, Missy Higgins' Peachy and Take That's We All Fall Down which wouldn't have come close to topping the chart in a stronger period.

Fast forward a few months and Delta Goodrem's Believe Again was completely dominant for 12 weeks but at the expense of the likes of Take That's Rule The World, Leona's Bleeding Love, Girls Aloud's Call The Shots and Sugababes' About You Now - all #2 peaking songs that would have topped the chart if they hadn't run into such an unstoppable force.

The other particularly weak period that sticks out in my mind was early 2005 while other strong periods were summer 2006 (Hips Don't Lie/Smile/Voodoo Child/Maneater), practically the whole of 2009 (what a year!) and late 2010 (What's My Name/The Flood/White Light Moment were all top three for about 9 weeks in a row simultaneously).

Agree with this, 2005 had some really bad times (New Order and Katie Melua one week No.1s with songs I barely even like!)

2009 was a great year - in fact the year that renewed my interest after almost stopping my charts a few times (esp 2007)

As for Take That in your charts. I've had it happen a few times where an artist will have a No.1 and then a much better song only reach No.2, but is much higher in the EOY

Interestingly, for me, the strongest times happen to be after a particularly strong debut, mostly in the summer or during Q4 with all the big releases. Examples:

Summer 2013: "Live For The Night" was huge in my EOY but was blocked by "Best Song Ever". "Wake Me Up" and "Pretty Brown Eyes" also suffered the same fate.

Q4 2013: One Direction and Lady Gaga dominated, followed by Conor's "R U Crazy", blocking "Timber". If neither of those reached #1, it would have been there for 11 weeks, more than any #1 on my chart now.

Q2/Q3 2014: Front-loaded with Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea (save one week in June where 5SOS occupied the top 2). Among those blocked: "Wasted", "Habits", "Really Don't Care", "A Sky Full Of Stars", "2 On"

Q4: Front-loaded with Taylor, kept "Pray To God" from reaching the top, though it would eventually top the chart in February.

EDIT: Reaching another competitive round, as new Zedd and Conor Maynard have reached my databases, as well as Taylor releasing the bonus tracks off 1989 :o

Actually I'm mixed with this

Yes I could go onto the iTunes/BBC Radio 1 Playlist and listen to them all but then I'd get a load of tracks entering and forcing the older classics to drop out

My aim is to keep a max of 5 new entries per week :)

For me, the more new entries, the better! A fresh chart is always the best, and even if the old classics drop out sooner, it just means that your chart is busier. No restrictions in my chart :D
I only seem to have loads of new entries very few times. I normally would say probably between 4-7 is the usual (though last week I had 2 new entries- one at 37 and the other one was 41 the week before so it was pretty much 0 new songs). Though many new entries in one week seems to happen when there is 4 good songs out that week, 1 video boost, 3 songs from a new great album and 2 that I had started listening to more. That happened in October I remember and many of the biggest hits of the year went out in the same week (west coast, your love, don't put dirt on my grave just yet, black roses, boom clap, problem, if I go etc)

Welp. Just found out that Carly Rae Jepsen is premiering the same week as Conor
I personally love new entries, usually I have between 20-30% of the chart as new entries each week. A long/good stay in my chart is 10 wks +

2005 was the hardest time in the chart- there were 26 different #1s (a record tied with 2002) and very few singles made it past 15 weeks. The longest runner however was Arcade Fire's "Rebellion (Lies)" which did manage to get 27 weeks on the chart ( six of which were at number 1)

In recent times it would definitely be August 2011- three massive songs: "Shuffle" by Bombay Bicycle Club, "Midnight City" by M83, and "Still Life" by the Horrors all out and peaking at the same time - resulting in the barging past each other to get limited runs at the top. Had they come out at different times, all would have quite easily managed 4 or 5 weeks at #1 but instead had to settle for just 3, 2 and 1 week respectively, though all three hung around for 20+ weeks.

my charts ebb and flow, some are better than others in a year, some years are better than other years, but I've never felt any of my number ones didn't deserve it - but I have had charts when the whole top 5,6,7 etc deserved it. The last few weeks have been terrific.

Update: both Conor and CARLY eventually reached #1, only for Fifth Harmony to split their joint at the hip thing. It seems to be reaching another tough period with again a new Conor song, Furious 7 impact and the eventual debut of "Pretty Girls".

I believe, enjoying every moment of life is worth than anything else.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picking the worst times for my chart is relatively easy. Around 1993-94: I had very few number ones and reduced my chart down to a top 18. Early 2002 was relatively poor too. Since 2007, the "download era" I have always found enough to fill the chart, although the weeks I need entries, just after Christmas to dispose the chart of all its Christmas hits, is always the time there were fewest.

Since recently, a youtube video that isn't a still audio has become a requisite which has eased the burden of overly large playlists. Early 2014 was probably the period that had the most songs trying to get in the chart as I created my script in February.

For me, the hardest period was this week, where Sigma feat. Ella Henderson, Little Mix and Philip George all entered in the top 3 in that order. It's quite hard to make Black Magic and Afraid To Love non-number ones.
