Robbie ... Let My Stand-in Entertain You

HOST with the most Elton kicked off the entertainment with Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.

Next on stage was Take That with Lulu and Beverley Knight.

Rumours that ROBBIE WILLIAMS and Kylie would perform proved unfounded.

But Little Britain star DAVID WALLIAMS was happy to take the mic.

An onlooker told me: “He jumped up and stood in for Robbie. He knew every word and dance move. It was scary.â€

Ronan on Robbie

RITCHIE YORKE

02jul06

YOU'D think there would be a competitive spirit flowing between the likes of former boy-band members Robbie Williams, Justin Timberlake, Ronan Keating and their ilk.

And you'd be right. Keating doesn't back away from what could be dangerous territory.

"I think that Robbie is probably the best entertainer of all of us – us being Robbie (from Take That), Justin (N'Sync), myself and a couple of others that do that kind of thing. People like Brian McFadden (Westlife), as well, and he's a good friend.

"Of all the boy-band guys that came out of bands and became solo artists, I think Robbie's probably the best entertainer. He's got a certain charisma, and a tongue-in-cheek humour that really just works."

It obviously works in Australia, where Williams has managed to sell out nine huge outdoor shows in December, including two at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane (December 13 and 14).

But in the US, he could barely draw the numbers required for a football team. The Yanks don't want a bar of Williams, which is astounding considering his domination in Britain and here.

"Americans," Keating says, "don't like that cheekiness and that tongue-in-cheek humour that Robbie employs. That 'ego has landed' thing just doesn't fly in the US.

"If they'd released Angels and went to radio with that, Robbie might have been a big star in America by now. But because several of his singles haven't gotten away, there's a sort of stigma attached to his name there at the radio level.

"Having said that, though, his Dublin concert that I attended a couple of weeks ago was an amazing spectacle. The stage is enormous – he's spent a lot of money on this rig.

"He opens his set with Rock DJ,( Really? ) which I think is a great pop record. It was very cool to open with that. Apart from the new songs from his next album,( Huh?) it's a show just full of hits."

'Probably' the best entertainer? :o

Still nice of Ronan to say it how it is though isn't it.

A pic of Robbie looking out of his hotel after England lost the match :o Not a very happy Rob

Apperently he sang "God save the queen" to the fans waiting outside the hotel before going to the gig in which he was late for due to the England match.

ROBBIE WILLIAMS was late for a gig in Sweden – after making the crowd wait until the end of the England match. The star watched the game at his hotel in Gothenburg. A fan said: “I heard Rob sing the national anthem and he was shouting a lot.â€

Harding to entertain troops

AUSTRALIAN Idol export Lee Harding is to follow in the footsteps of Kylie Minogue, John Farnham and Robbie Williams by entertaining Aussie troops in Iraq.

Harding and his band Bedrock, along with comedian Clint Paddison and country music singers Nicki Gillis and Stacey Morris, leave for the Middle East today on what the funk-style singer says will be a life changing experience.

“It’s one of those opportunities you would not get in normal life and I am so, so thankful I get to do it,†said Harding, 23.

“I can’t believe I am doing this. I have never ever been overseas and my first time is to do this. It’s very exciting.â€

The performers will spend two-weeks touring the Middle East, entertaining troops involved in Operation Catalyst.

Entertaining the troops is a long-time war tradition dating back to the days of Bob Hope and Marilyn Monroe.

Whaaat? When were Robbie and Kylie in Iraq???????

Latest report on Wembley. Wonder if it will ever be finished?

Further delays expected for Wembley

LONDON (AP) - The completion date for the new Wembley was put back until after September on Monday, marking yet another delay in the reconstruction of England's national stadium.

The 90,000-seat, 757-million-pound ($1.4 billion US) stadium has been plagued by problems ever since it was decided eight years ago to demolish the old Wembley and build a new one.

In March, the Football Association was forced to move the 2006 FA Cup final to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium because Wembley wouldn't be ready to host the May 13 match.

Multiplex, the Australian company in charge of the renovations, blamed the latest delay on the company Wembley National Stadium Limited (WNSL) for not having completed "certain works."

"WNSL has not begun some of these works," Multiplex said Monday in a statement. "Furthermore, once practical completion has been achieved, it is the responsibility of WNSL to carry out a series of critical works and activities in order to make the stadium operational for events.

"Multiplex is of the view that the works for which WNSL is responsible may not finish by September 2006 and therefore the date of practical completion may be delayed."

WNSL is to host "test events" to ensure the stadium is safe. WNSL said the tests will take two months.

WNSL chief executive Michael Cunnah rejected responsibility for the delay, arguing that his company doesn't begin work until Multiplex completes its renovations.

"The delays experienced on the stadium have and continue to be under the complete control and responsibility of Multiplex," Cunnah said. "Although the stadium appears to be nearly finished, Multiplex has an important and substantial amount of work to complete, including the installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems."

Wembley had been scheduled to be finished by late 2005, but various construction delays pushed the deadline to January and then to March.

A two-year legal dispute between Multiplex and a steel contractor was originally blamed, forcing summer concerts by the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Robbie Williams and Take That to be rescheduled.

"Wembley stadium took the sensible decision in March to rule out all events at the stadium in 2006 as we were skeptical of Multiplex's ability to meet the various deadlines they have given us," Cunnah said.

"The situation remains the same - Multiplex need to make more progress in delivering the stadium before we can name an opening date."

Rugby league's Challenge Cup final, scheduled for Wembley on Aug. 26, will be played at Twickenham instead. The league had already sold nearly 35,000 tickets for the Wembley match.

The FA has already moved next season's traditional curtain raiser - the August 13 Community Shield game between league champion Chelsea and FA Cup holder Liverpool - to the Millennium Stadium.

Multiplex faces a reported penalty of 12,000 pounds ($20,800 US) for each day the stadium is delayed - up to a maximum of 14 million pounds ($24.3 million US).

I'm loving doctors instead

By SEAN HAMILTON

Deputy Bizzare Editor

RANDY Robbie Williams pulled a sexy blonde doctor — by chatting her up from the stage as he played a gig.

The 32-year-old star spotted big-boobed Marie Annerstedt in the front row as he wowed 50,000 fans in Gothenberg, Sweden.

The junior hospital medic was wearing a low-cut top with “Snog me, I’m a doctor†emblazoned across it.â€

Robbie, who sings about “loving angels instead†in his mega hit Angels, halted Sunday night’s concert.

And he asked Marie: “Are you really a doctor?†Then he pointed to his crotch and said: “Do you want to examine this?â€

An onlooker said: “Robbie told the girl in front of everyone he wanted to spend the night with her — and she was welcome to come back to his hotel.

“He made another medical gag about how he’d like to take a proper look at her. Then he sang Feel directly to her.â€

Robbie’s blatant technique worked. Marie was spotted later at his hotel, the Elite Plaza, and headed towards his third-floor room.

She was seen in the lobby the next morning.

And she accompanied Robbie to the airport, from where he flew to Copenhagen to continue his world tour — called CLOSE ENCOUNTERS.

WILLIAMS' BONGO BONANZA

Contact Music

ROBBIE WILLIAMS is determined to give French star MANU CHAO more exposure in the UK, so he is covering his song BONGO BONG on his upcoming album. Williams is a big fan of Chao, formerly of the French punk band MANO NEGRA, and believes he has the magic to make the track a hit in Britain. An insider says, "He's doing a cover of Bongo Bong on his new dance album. "It was massive everywhere else but never really did it over here."
