Lily Allen thinks Robbie is "past it"

Monday, July 31 2006, 11:22 BST - by Daniel Kilkelly

Lily Allen turned down a duet with Robbie Williams because of his age.

The Smile singer was approached to record a song with the star for his new electro album, but she decided that she didn't want to ruin her reputation.

"It could ruin my street cred," Lily is quoted by the Daily Star as saying. "He's cute, but past it."

Allen eventually decided to provide some backing vocals for the album.

Well how kind of her to lower herself. Can I just ask? Who is she? I've never heard of the silly bint.

Lily Allen will be past it before Rudebox is released :P

Her song was quite catchy on first hearing it - but b****y annoying very soon after ^_^

New artists being rude about those who have proved themselevs over time really irritate me. Maybe they think the publicity is all that matters ? She was rude about Kylie too.

Looking forward to Rudebox Video :)

If I manage to remember while I'm in Cornwall

I've honestly never heard of Lily Allen . Is she famous at the moment?

Her first single 'Smile' was #1 a few weeks ago , and I think her album went to #1 too (though could be wrong on that - definitely a good chart position).

Her dad is Keith Allen.

I was wrong -

last weeks album chart :

1. (NEW) RAZORLIGHT (Razorlight) 1 wk

2. (NEW) ALRIGHT STILL (Lily Allen) 1 wk

Oh. I am clearly out of touch.

Is Keith Allen the man with Orville?

  • Author

Oh No. That was Keith Harris.

Who's Keith Allen then? Don't know him either.

Keith Allen - I assume this is the right one, all I knew is that here dada was famous, but not why -_-

Nationality: English

Damien Hirst's best friend and chum to the Blur boys, Keith Allen has contributed to many aspects of the British art scene. But Allen's film roles have tended to be on the periphery; important but never the lead. In Shallow Grave (1994) he was the soon-deceased tenant; in Trainspotting (1996) he was the silent drug dealer; and in FilmFour's Blue Juice (1995) he lurked in the background of his character's recording studios.

More recently, Allen cropped up in his brother Kevin's directoral debut Twin Town (1997) and co-starred in the Brit-pack gangster flick Rancid Aluminium. He has recently appeared in Alejandro Amenbar's supernatural thriller The Others (2001) and the Madchester biopic 24 Hour Party People (2002)

Keith Allen is one third (alongside Damian Hirst and Alex James) of novelty pop band Fat Les, which provided the England football team's official anthem for Euro 2000

God, he's really famous then. Not. :P

Still, with any luck Robbie will be able to dub over her 'backing vocals' before the CD goes to press.

BERLIN (Reuters) - Robbie Williams has been invited to train with Bayern Munich while he is in the Bavarian capital for a series of concerts this week, the club's sporting director Uli Hoeness was quoted saying on Monday.

"Naturally we'll invite Robbie Williams to join us," Hoeness told German reporters travelling with the team for a test match in Japan against the Urawa Red Diamonds on Monday.

Williams' management had earlier asked Bayern Munich whether it would be possible to take part in a workout.

Williams, who practised with a local soccer team in Berlin during a previous concert stay, was given three choices to practise with the defending Bundesliga champions: Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.

Well, I thought those news from Mr. Sean sounded too good to be true. :(

But I'm certainly looking forward to the Rudebox video.

With thanks to championfan fro TRWS:

From this week's Music Week:

Dooley's Diary column:

Dooley suggests that Victoria Newton may just be eating her anti-Robbie Williams words in a few months time. After listening to the album last week, Dooley came away with the distinct impression that it could well be his best yet, with Mark Ronson giving added chutzpah to the Williams hit machine.

Now this should be reliable. Now, why I do I like that first sentence so much... ?

Pop star Williams eyeing Vale role

Fan and multi-millionaire pop star Robbie Williams wants to become chairman of League One side Port Vale when his music career is over.

Current chairman Bill Bratt says Williams, who is the club's leading shareholder with a 24.9% stake, has revealed the ambition to him.

But Williams has declined the club's offer to become its honorary president as his work commitments mean he is unable to devote enough time to the role.

Speaking at the Vale EGM on Monday night, Bratt said: "I can guarantee you that providing the club moves forward and he likes what he sees, he will become more and more involved. Robbie is one person you could trust and he has the club at heart.

"He said in the future he would like to be chairman of Port Vale or get involved a lot more. But that could be a long time into the future once his recording career is over."

Lifelong Vale fan Williams sank £249,000 into the club in January but Bratt said the singer is not likely to invest more in the near future. He said: "We are keeping him informed about how things are going. I am sure he is happy with the situation as it stands."

EMI licenses music to Mashboxx

Robbie Williams is one of EMI's artists

Record company EMI Music has announced plans to license its entire US digital catalogue to a file-sharing network.

Music fans will be able to try-out and then buy music from EMI artists on legal peer-to-peer service Mashboxx, which is currently in development.

Mashboxx, founded by former Grokster CEO Wayne Rosso, will allow customers to search for music on existing file-sharing networks.

The download company has already signed a licensing agreement with Sony BMG.

The launch date for Mashboxx is not yet known.

Potential revenue

David Munns, chairman and CEO of EMI Music North America, said: "When it rolls out, Mashboxx will be a no-obligation way for fans to really immerse themselves in discovering music, turning their friends on to what they like and getting excited about artists and music they've not yet heard.

"It has the potential to be a very good revenue stream for those who make their living from creating and investing in music."

EMI Music also plans to offer tracks from its international catalogue, when Mashboxx eventually rolls out.

Its artists include Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Radiohead and Gorillaz.

Last week, file-sharing site Kazaa announced it was becoming legitimate and agreed to pay music companies $100m (£53m) after a series of legal wrangles.

The music industry said they believed the "writing is now on the wall" for illegal file-sharing companies.

For all the Technophiles amongst you-

PRG Europe has supplied a large package of MAC 2000 Washes and Atomic strobes with Atomic Colors scrollers for British pop star Robbie Williams’ 2006 “Close Encounters†stadium world tour. In rehearsals since early May, the tour kicked off in mid-June and runs through the end of the year.

Lighting designer is Al Gurdon (Brit Awards, MTV Europe Awards, Classical Brit Awards, Nobel Peace Prize Concert) who has been lighting top television programs and events for the past eighteen years, as well as DVD shoots for some of the top performers in the industry like U2, Phil Collins, Sting, and many more. Yet despite his vast experience in the industry, not to mention his years of experience using Martin gear, this is Al’s first concert tour design.

“I was excited to have the opportunity to design the lighting for Robbie’s tour,†he states. “The brief has been evolving in a fairly organic way for over a year or so. The choice of fixtures was predicated on the shape of the set and the function of what I want to use them for. Also, being an outdoor show with no roof it’s hard to keep smoke levels up so in choosing any of the lighting it had to be used in a practical way - we couldn’t rely on fixture beams because we didn’t know if we’d have any.â€

The show features an abundance of color from 88 MAC 2000 Washes and a whopping 122 Atomic strobes with Atomic Colors. “There is a lot of color in the show – a lot more than I would normally use,†says Al. “On that scale, great slabs of color is what is needed because it has a lot more impact. The color is also used to complement the video - it’s very important to integrate the lighting with whatever is going on in the set. It’s essential to get integration of color and at its simplest the closer you get to matching colors, and the more unified and monolithic that look becomes, the more effective it becomes to an audience of 50-100,000 people. Occasionally you get a stronger look by contrasting a color but I tend towards using the same color. If you start mixing colors up then it weakens the whole look and impact. The impact really comes when you have this whole organism with the lighting acting with a sense of the same purpose.â€

MAC 2000 Wash

The “Close Encounters†set is dominated by six large, curved architectural ‘tusks’ and two 26 meter high overhanging arms referred to as ‘scorpion tails.’ Embedded into the bellies of the tusks and scorpion tails are 6500 Barco O-lite blocks which give the stage a wonderful 3D depth. The set is also dominated by three, large Mitsubishi OD8 LED screens.

“It’s a very designed architectural space and the purpose of many of the lights is to emphasize that shape and to work with it,†Al explains. “There are a series of grille panels under the scorpion tails with a MAC 2K Wash in the center of each which is a really good look for defining the shape of the set. They will often point out into the audience so you’re always aware of the shape of the set because those fixtures define the shape.

“Their other function is to color the audience in the same way as the set - to include them in the whole process. Robbie’s shows are very much about the audience – they often sing the song and are a critical part of the show – he has a great relationship with them. The show is about being with 50,000 other people who love being there and love the performer.â€

Twelve MAC 2000 Washes hang on the underside of each ‘tail.’ On the top of each PA scrim are 8 MAC 2000 Washes lighting down the scrim as well as out into the audience. On the floor on each side of the stage are 11 MAC 2000 Washes shining up the PA scrim while 14 more located in the ‘bunker’ at the back of the set project beams out into the crowd. There are also 6 MAC 2000 Washes hanging on the video frames used to light the band along with additional fixtures on the floor left and right for band cross washes. Control is from a Virtuoso.

Atomic Colors

Martin Atomic 3000 strobes make up an integral part of the visual design with each strobe outfitted with Atomic Colors scrollers. The Atomics are spread across the set with most hanging off the O-Lite panels in key-hole fittings that click into the side of the screen. Others are located in the scorpion tails, at the top and bottom of the O-Lite panels, in the bunker, and behind the grille that circles the stage.

“The Atomics are a very important part of the show and we use the color on the Atomics throughout,†Al comments. “They are designed to be seen and also help reflect the shape of the set. All the scrollers have the same custom colors which were chosen to match the different types of lights we use in the show.â€

Robbie Williams hits several European countries through the summer before playing a series of Asian and Australian dates later in the year. The show is selling out everywhere it goes.
