The Sun Bizarre

REMIND me never to get on the wrong side of ROBBIE WILLIAMS.

A song he has penned about his days in TAKE THAT is probably the most vicious I have ever heard.

On it he sings about wanting to gouge out the eyes of ex-manager NIGEL MARTIN-SMITH with a knife and attacks him for telling the Take That boys they had made no money from a European tour.

In the song, called The Nineties, you can almost hear Robbie spit as he sings about Martin-Smith: “Either you’re a thief or you’re s**t, which one will you admit to?

“Such an evil man, I used to fantasise about taking a Stanley knife and playing round with your eyes.

“I’m 16 and chubby,’ he tells me, ‘Lose 20 pounds, you’re not Rob, you’re Robbie, and if I see you with a girl, then you’ll be sorry.’ â€

I asked Robbie about the track when I interviewed him in Vienna and he told me he wanted an answer from Martin-Smith about why the band made no money from the European tour.

Robbie, whose single Rudebox is out today, told me: “When we’d finished touring and asked where the money was, he said, ‘You don’t make money in Europe, boys.’

“Well, I don’t understand. I’m doing this interview with you on tour in Europe, making money — doing very well, in fact. So either he’s a thief or a rubbish manager.â€

In the track, which is on Robbie’s new album, Rudebox, he also points out how Martin-Smith’s favourite, GARY BARLOW, got special treatment from him and his bandmates JASON ORANGE, MARK OWEN and HOWARD DONALD.

He sings about how the group were a “band of brothers†but one was “more equal than othersâ€, and says: “I’m thinking, ‘Why am I standing at the back?’ â€

With its hugely catchy chorus, the track is one of my favourites on the album — out on October 23.

Robbie has voiced his hatred of Martin-Smith before. In 1998’s Karma Killer he sang: “I hope you choke on your Bacardi and Coke†— Nigel’s favourite tipple.

Even so, on last November’s Take That documentary Nigel said: “Robbie has said all these things but I’ve no idea why he is upset with me.â€

Well, now you know, Nigel — over to you . . .

Well Basement Jaxass are still digging a hole for themselves today, still having a pop at Robbie and his audience.

Personally having read it I have now come to the conclusion that they cannot understand why they are not reaching the crowd. So they blame the type of audience Robbie attracts, can someone be so kind and tell me what kind of audience they do attract. Many thanks.

They have now said they will never be a support for anyone else again. boo hoo.

:o But they did reach the crowd!!!!!!

They were just amazing and the audience loved them

I really don't understand this

I don't in a way Twinkle, because we know that Robbie has very attractive young ladies down the front writing all over the chests. But they have been going around doing interviews that they don't think it was a good idea to have supported Robbie. He's not "cool" according to them, and his audience is not their audience.

Well they think they are "Cool" I suppose, but are still playing to a half empty stadium and it probably has got their goat.

Twits.

Can't see any zimmer frames there, can you Twinkle?

Nope not one. Sour grapes I'd say.

I think Basement Jaxx better watch out, if Susie is in the front row. lol

Robbie ... new pal

By SEAN HAMILTON

SEPTEMBER 05, 2006

ROBBIE Williams has become best pals with golfer Colin Montgomerie — who has invited the singer to join him at the Ryder Cup.

The unlikely friendship came to light at the weekend when Monty turned up backstage at Robbie’s show in Glasgow.

Now the singer is expected to accept an offer from Monty, 43, to join him at the Ryder Cup in Ireland from September 22.

Monty’s appearance at the Glasgow gig came BETWEEN ROUNDS at the BMW International in Munich, Germany — 856 miles away.

Robbie, 32, had laid on a private jet to fly Monty in for the night.

Montgomerie ... went to Robbie gig

The pair hung out before the Sing When You’re Winning star went on stage for his Close Encounters world tour.

And they chatted at an aftershow party. Monty jumped back on the jet in the morning to get to Germany for his afternoon tee time. Robbie met Monty at Ant and Dec’s charity golf day last year.

A source said: “They hit it off immediately.

“Robbie stayed in touch and invited Colin to join him at the show in Scotland.

“When he realised Monty would be playing he laid on a jet.

“Now Monty is trying to get Robbie out for a round.â€

Monty’s night out didn’t do his golf any harm. After his Sunday round in Munich he finished joint-sixth.

Robbie to play China

04 September 2006 - 10:14:56

Robbie Williams is to join the growing tide of Western acts who have performed in China, with plans to play a live show there this autumn.

The EMI artist will follow in the footsteps of artists including The Rolling Stones and Westlife by undertaking a promotional visit in November, to include a performance at the 35,000-capacity Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai.

It will be one of several dates this year in which Williams – whose new album Rudebox is released on October 23 – will be playing concerts for the first time. His non-European tour itinerary also includes first live performances in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and India.

Full details of the Chinese date are expected to be unveiled shortly, but Capitol Music UK senior international project manager Carole MacDonald says, to pave the way for the concert itself, EMI invited media from China over to see him perform during his continental European tour this summer.

“China is a country with massive potential and there are a lot of artists starting to play there,†she says. “The Western cultural influences are increasing all the time.â€

Although Western acts playing China is still headline news, two decades on from Wham! becoming the first Western artists to play there, the country is increasingly figuring on promotional and tour agendas.

Three years after original concert plans were scrapped because of the Sars epidemic, EMI’s The Rolling Stones made their Chinese concert debut in April at Shanghai’s Grand Stage, while Sony BMG’s Westlife played at the same venue in July as part of the promotion for their Face To Face album.

Live dates in Mumbai and Bangalore in India in November are also expected to be announced shortly for Williams, while concerts for the same month are already confirmed for Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore.

Before those dates, Williams will make his South American concert debut in October, having already visited key markets on the continent over the past two years.

His schedule includes two dates at the 62,000-capacity River Plate football stadium in Buenos Aires in Argentina - breaking U2’s previous record of achieving the fastest ticket sales at the venue for an international act.

EXCLUSIVE: Robbie Williams Not To Appear On The X-Factor

Entertainment Wise

What is it people say?... Don’t believe everything the papers tell you? We were all gobsmacked to read in numerous papers that Robbie would be coaching the 16-25’s (even us at entertainmentwise!).

An insider told the Mirror: “Simon said he wanted this series to be the biggest and best yet. This is a massive coup.â€

Well it looks like Simon has'nt got Robbie - unless it’s by video conference! WE CAN REVEAL EXCLUSIVELY THAT ROBBIE WILL NOT BE MENTORING THE UNDER 25’S! I HAVE RECEIVED A PERSONAL STATEMENT TODAY FROM ROBBIE’S PR – SO WE KNOW! (and now so do you!)

It states ‘Robbie will not be participating in the X-Factor. He will be on his world tour’.

Here at entertainmentwise.com if there’s something on the grapevine we like to squeeze it and see how much juice comes out! – THIS ONE WAS DRY GUYS! I am still fishing to find out who these celebrity trainers may be… as soon as I know – you will.

With regard to the judges, Simon Cowell will be mentoring the 16-25s, Louis Walsh is lumbered with the over 25’s while Sharon will be managing the groups…good luck Sharon – you may well need it.

Robbie Williams

Rap superstar SEAN 'DIDDY' COMBS wants to help British pop heart-throb ROBBIE WILLIAMS crack America, by recording a new track with him.

Despite spending most of his time in Los Angeles, Williams has never managed to win over US fans.

He recently claimed to have given up the quest to sell albums stateside, insisting his new album RUDEBOX wouldn't even be released there.

But Diddy is determined to give Williams a hope.

He says, "I reached out to Robbie to record a song with him. I love his whole vibe. Hopefully in the future I'll work with him and other UK artists."

so if Rob records a song with him he will win over US fans <_< why bother -_-

Robbie also revealed that he might have to kick his addiction to tattoos, because he can no longer take the pain.

During an interview on London's Capital Radio station, he told British DJ Johnny Vaughn: "I have 18. They problem is they get more painful as you get older."

I love it how the press takes a statement from him out of context...how do they get that he can no longer take the pain? He just said it's more painful now that he's older!!

I hate the press...REALLY I do.

Robbie fans have a nervous wait

With just days to go before Roundhay gig there's still no sign of tickets

By Paul Robinson and Sophie Hazan

This is Leeds

ROBBIE Williams fans were today sweating on the arrival of their prized tickets for the pop superstar's shows at Roundhay Park in Leeds.

The YEP has received a number of phone calls over the last 48 hours from people worried that they could miss out on Robbie's dates in the city this Friday and Saturday.

They told how they were still waiting for tickets which had been purchased when the 90,000-capacity gigs were first announced in November last year.

An e-mail was sent out by concert organisers last Thursday apologising for what was described as a "slight delay in dispatch.".

But the message also said the tickets would be posted by Monday this week – just four days before Robbie's first show at Roundhay.

Those nervously checking their mail each morning included Mark Taylor, from Colton.

He bought two £46.50 "premium" tickets for Saturday's gig as a surprise gift for his wife, Shirley.

The 36-year-old even forked out £25 to join Robbie's fan club so he could take advantage of a priority booking offer.

Anxious

Mrs Taylor, 39, said: "I am obviously anxious about this. We have been left wondering what is going on until the last minute. I'll be very angry if we don't get to go."

The delays have sparked – apparently false – rumours of 11th-hour difficulties with the printing of the tickets.

There has also been speculation that a batch had been stolen after going missing in the post, as was the case for Robbie's concerts in Glasgow last week.

However, a spokesman for the former Take That pin-up said that, as far as he knew, there were no particular problems with the mail-out.

He also said that even if some tickets were only dispatched on Monday, then they should still have arrived by today.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said she was unaware of any Leeds tickets being reported stolen.

Robbie Williams makes date for local concert

Michelle Zhang

2006-09-06

BRITISH pop singer Robbie Williams will make his live concert debut on the Chinese mainland at the Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium on November 4.

Shanghai is the superstar's only stop on the Chinese mainland for his Close Encounters World Tour 2006. After Shanghai, Williams will make just four other stops in Asia - in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore.

Tickets, from 180 yuan (US$22) to 1,580 yuan, will officially go on sale on September 14, according to China West Entertainment, one of the concert's organizers. However, some major local box offices are already open for advance bookings. Advance tickets will also be available at www.robbiewilliams.com from September 7.

Shanghai music critic Sun Mengjin said he caught Williams's new tour in Germany and Austria, where the singer performed to packed houses of up to 90,000.

Sun said Williams was not as popular in China as in Europe and predicted much of the audience in the 30,000-capacity Hongkou Stadium will be foreigners.

"Major recording companies mainly promote Hong Kong and Taiwanese singers on the mainland and not European and American pop music," said Sun.

"They believe they can make more money out of promoting Hong Kong and Taiwanese singers.'

Tickets for Williams's show at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on November 10 are already sold out.

JAKE SHEARS and the band released I Dont Feel Like Dancin yesterday and in the midweeks it is outselling rivals by a mile.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKEs SexyBack has slipped to No2, NELLY FURTADOs Promiscuous is at No3 and ROBBIE WILLIAMSs Rudebox is sitting at No4.

There is a strong chance Robbie will overtake Nelly by the end of the week as the figures are close.

Over in the album chart, it looks as if KASABIAN will hold the top spot for a second week with Empire

The Star. 7/09/06

Pop joker Robbie Williams has renamed his best mate Jonathon Wilkes 'Troy' - as plain old Jonathan just isn't showbiz enough.

Robbie has taken the former You've been Framed' host on tour with him and insists his backstage crew refer to Jonathan by his new nickname.

The Rudebox singer was inspired to give Jon 28, the stage name by the 2004 movie starring Brad Pitt.

A tour source explained: It started off as a bit of a joke, but now it has stuck.

Robbie was teasing Jonathan because he has got one of the least showbizzy names in the industry.

"He told him if he was going to continue touring with him, he'd have to rename him Troy.

Robbie brings his extravagant tour to Leeds this weekend and London next week.

Rudebox is currently at No.4 in the midweek sales charts.

Robbie Williams ... concert closes schools

PARENTS today blasted a decision to close a series of schools because a Robbie Williams concert is taking place nearby.

Headteachers at 11 Leeds schools and learning centres have decided to shut for all or part of tomorrow as 90,000 fans of the chart-topping former Take That star head for the city’s Roundhay Park.

The local education authority said the decision was taken to ensure children’s safety in the expected huge crowds and heavy traffic.

But some parents have claimed their children’s education has been sacrificed for a pop concert.

Russell Fletcher, whose daughter goes to Allerton Grange School, said: "It is absolutely despicable. It is a new term; the kids, teachers, everybody is back at school, ready to get into it and they have closed already."

Five schools and learning centres are closing all day tomorrow and another six are closing in the afternoon.

Two further schools have made special arrangements for parents to collect children early if they want to.

Robbie is playing two nights in Leeds - tomorrow and Saturday - as part of his current tour.

EMI boss presses for singles rule shake-up

Source: Music Week

EMI chairman and CEO Tony Wadsworth used the platform of his company’s autumn conference to press for all qualification restrictions to be lifted for digital releases in the combined singles chart.

Wadsworth hit out at present rules, which bar digital sales counting towards the chart until a week before an equivalent physical release becomes available, by calling at yesterday’s event for a chart to reflect everything the public is buying.

“If it doesn’t it will cease to be relevant to the public and the media and we’ll lose out. It needs to reflect all sales – physical and digital, including download videos,†he told the event at London’s Mermaid Theatre. “Let’s make our chart relevant and that’s a plea to everyone who has a voice in the charts.â€

The BPI has already backed such a move, although there are continuing reservations from some high street retailers, wary of what impact it could have on the already rapidly-declining physical singles business.

The conference included a preview of All Saints’ debut Parlophone single Rock Steady, supported by an appearance by the four members of the group, and the first screening of the video of Robbie Williams’ next single Lovelight. There was also a sneak listen of some of the music from the new Beatles album Love – the soundtrack of their Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil show – while live performers included Lily Allen, Badly Drawn Boy, Richard Hawley, Jamelia, Seth Lakeman and Keith Urban.
