We're back:

40. McBusted - Air Guitar (49)

12-62-x (2 weeks)

39. Tegan & Sara feat. The Lonely Island - Everything Is Awesome!!! (51)

65-17-24-37-48-67-x (6 weeks)

38. Tinie Tempah feat. Labrinth - Lover Not A Fighter (55)

42-27-18-18-16-25-50-52-71-x (9 weeks)

37. Twin Atlantic - Heart And Soul (58)

17-30-48-74-x (4 weeks)

36. Bring Me The Horizon - Drown (60)

17-x (1 week)

The idea of a McFly and Busted collaboration 10 years ago would have excited millions and their lead single would've been one of the most obvious #1s ever. However they left it until 2014, and whilst still getting lots of hype, their fanbase is quite limited now and Air Guitar ended up missing the top 10 altogether (partly due to streaming of course, as they did go to #10 in the sales chart). Anyway I haven't had the "pleasure" of listening to this properly as I was away during the chart show it entered, and it's probably something that wouldn't excite me judging by the rest of their material (I used to like some of their songs back in the day though  Year 3000 was a jam)

2014 was quite a big year for soundtrack singles, with The Lego Movie, The Hunger Games and obviously Frozen making an impact on the chart this year. Everything Is Awesome!!! is the first of these entries, and I have to congratulate the people behind this song for making a dance song that I think is really awful. WD :mansoncheer: At least it finally got The Lonely Island into the top 40, although I would've much preferred Jizz In My Pants or I Just Had Sex to make an impact (it does make me lol that they're on a kids movie song when half their other songs are really rude)

Tinie Tempah and Labrinth are known for making really good songs when working together. Pass Out and Earthquake are amongst my favourite urban tunes of all time, and Frisky is very good too. So to say this was a disappointment is an understatement. I really couldn't get behind this, I find the chorus quite annoying and it just feels like a 2nd rate version of everything else they've done.

Twin Atlantic brought rock back into the chart for a few weeks with this, it's really commercial rock, but rock nonetheless which rarely makes the chart now. Quite a good song, who can deny that accent? OHPEN UP YER HEART IND YER SOOOOOOOORRRRRRRL *.

Funny enough we get another rock entry just afterwards, this one actually went to #1 on iTunes though but was mega frontloaded and in the end could only settle for a 17-OUT chart run. The high entry was of course helped by R1 hammering the shit out of this, and the band's already built up fanbase.

People actually gave The Neon Brotherhood positive points? I appreciate the cause and all but the song itself was a bit laughably terrible. On the other hand 'God Only Knows' was really quite good IMO, doesn't deserve to be on the same level as 'Hope Ain't A Bad Thing'.

'Tell Her' was actually pretty decent (although not Rizzle Kicks' best), I'm a bit shocked it got no points at all.

Surprisingly high finish for Bring Me The Horizon :D

35. Gorgon City feat. Zak Abel - Unmissable (60)

19-42-69-x (3 weeks)

34. James Newton Howard - The Hanging Tree (76)

14-14-47-74-x (4 weeks)

33. Ella Henderson - Yours (77)

46-66-x-16-20-30-31-37-... (7 weeks)

32. Lethal Bizzle feat. JME & Tempa T - RariWorkOut (80)

11-51-x (2 weeks)

31. Meridian Dan feat. Big H & JME - German Whip (85)

13-41-53-75-x (4 weeks)

Gorgon City's Unmissable (ironic title) was a minor hit and one I couldn't really get behind, fortunately it was just a quality blip and they returned to greatness with follow-up Go All Night which is yet to come in the countdown. Now's probably a good time to mention how ties are broken, it's based on which song got higher individual points, so this beat Drown by having a +15 whereas that did not.

Composer James Newton Howard got a chart hit off the back of The Hunger Games Part 3 (Part 1). The song did not feature contributions from any other artists :) It's quite good though and the movie it's taken from is definitely worth checking out, I personally love it. Haven't read the books though so I've no idea what happens :o (no spoilers plz)

It only took Ella Henderson 3 singles to release a song that completely missed the top 15, what a flop. After 2 mid-tempos she decided to go even slower and do a piano ballad. Which is listenable and quite nice, but her other 2 singles work better for me, especially Ghost.

Lethal Bizzle has no top 30 entries then leaving the chart looking a lot less DENCH, well it's a lot higher than I expected it to be anyway as grime isn't exactly a well liked genre on Buzzjack. It brought Bizzle back to his peak, sadly he has 2 #11s without a single top 10, and is one of his best to date. Such a fun song and something I love seeing chart.

Two grime songs in a row then with German Whip coming out on top. It only feels right though as it was this song that inspired RariWorkOut. Hopefully someday one of these front loaded grime hits actually goes top 10 officially but until then we'll continue to get tunes like this in this competition.

I hated both RariWorkOut and German Whip, personally.
39. Tegan & Sara feat. The Lonely Island - Everything Is Awesome!!! (51)

38. Tinie Tempah feat. Labrinth - Lover Not A Fighter (55)

37. Twin Atlantic - Heart And Soul (58)

 Everything is awesome why do I like it?

Perhaps it because great artists perfomed it?

Lover Not A Fighter is really good :D

And the Twin Atlantic track is funny with the accent or that's just me

I love yours so I wish it was a bit higher up :(

So do I. (But personally when she announced it as the next single from Chapter One I thought it was a bad choice. Hoping Mirror Man will be her fourth single!)

And Mirror Man is the next single from Chapter One! (from what I've heard)

Tinashe - 2 On

You're right half. It missed the top 10, but it missed the top 20, top 30, top 40, top 50, top 75 and top 100 as well. I think it was a release issue...

30. Gorgon City feat. Jennifer Hudson - Go All Night (86)

14-52-58-51-... (4 weeks)

29. American Authors - Best Day Of My Life (89)

66-66-64-x-68-34-37-17-17-29-32-35-50-44-46-55-65-x-73-x (17 weeks)

28. Paolo Nutini - Scream (Funk My Life Up) (90)

12-28-22-28-34-52-x (6 weeks)

27. Neon Jungle - Louder (92)

14-26-43-67-x (4 weeks)

26. Conchita Wurst - Rise Like A Phoenix (96)

17-64-x (2 weeks)

Jennifer Hudson is used to missing the top 10, with Spotlight spending 8 weeks top 20 with a #11 peak. Ouch. She couldn't get her first T10 with Gorgon City produced Go All Night unfortunately anyhow, thought it did get there on sales only. It's really good and I love her voice on it, works perfectly on deep house!

Imagine Dragons released BDOML around the same time as Demons, not sure why but there you go. This was not great anyway and ultimately felt like a 2nd rate version of It's Time. It got featured on the Center Parks advert though which helped it smash and it had very good longevity for a #17 hit. Demons will be appearing higher in this countdown thankfully.

Paolo Nutini brought FUNK back into the chart before Mark Ronson made it cool. Who knew he was such a trendsetter *. Scream wasn't his best song to date but it's quite catchy and was enjoyable for the few weeks that it did chart.

Neon Jungle were about to be the next big girlband with the release of Braveheart, but ever since then they've had declines, with the featured Louder missing the top 10 and post-album single Can't Stop The Love presumably not even going top 200 (correct me if I'm wrong). It was quite a good effort but didn't make the impact on me that Trouble/Braveheart did and I was not disappointed to see this flop. It's not the highest girlband single in the countdown though, we still have G.R.L and The Saturdays contending.

Just missing the top 25 is Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst, mostly known for dressing up as a woman but keeping his beard, his win was a great moment for trans/drag acceptance across Europe. The song isn't bad too and whilst sounding very Eurovision it did the job and made the UK top 20. Although this wasn't the most impaktful entry as The Common Linnets somehow went top 10. They're very lucky streaming wasn't counted, so is Sanna Neilsen who iconically went top 40 that week too. Hopefully streaming doesn't affect Eurovision songs too much this year but I imagine they will.

BEST DAY OF ME LIFE AND LOUDER :D

AMERICAN authors need to write more songs imo

BEST DAY was great! :D

Surprisingly low for Conchita Wurst. I'm no big Eurovision fan but I really like 'Rise Like A Phoenix' and thought it'd have a ton of support from others on here.

Is there some sort of Buzzjack joke about American Authors and Imagine Dragons that I've missed or did ID release a song under a different name or something?

Very confused particularly as I actually really like ID and bought the album etc. so sort of feel like I should have noticed a name change.

It's just a joke (a bit run into the ground as chart forum jokes often are) about 'Best Day Of My Life' sounding like a complete ripoff of Imagine Dragons' sound.

I just don't see the similarities to be honest.

I do realise the slight similarities when you refer to It's Time I suppose

But it's still a hit nonetheless :D

#selfie initially looked like the next massive novelty dance hit, but it stalled after reaching #11, not doing too badly though with 8 weeks in the top 40, making it the biggest hit of this section. With a standard dance beat and spoken word verses about taking selfies in the club, it attracted lots of hate, even here with it scoring 4 sets of -2s, but some like myself appreciate it for what it is. It seems that The Chainsmokers have faded back into semi-obscurity now with follow up 'Kanye' making much less of an impact, having only 3.5+ million views on YouTube and not making the UK chart.

Demi Lovato's biggest selling song of 2014 as a leading artist is not in this competition, in fact it didn't even make the top 40. However she managed to get Neon Lights into the top 15 despite it being a post album single. It sounds less impressive when you note that it was still a held back release though. And the song isn't impressive either.

James Bay has been tipped for big success in 2015 and he's already seen some of it with Hold Back The River going top 20. He hasn't tired on me yet but if he gets as big as the current singer songwriter power trio Sheeran/Smith/Ezra then that may happen. It's quite a good song anyway, although his Let It Go is better and deserves to outpeak this in the new year. Even better of course is the Tontario remix of Hear Your Heart but I doubt that'll ever see a release.

Bakermat as part of the sax dance trend released Vandaag, with its title changed to One Day (Vandaag) presumably as 'one day' is a prominent lyric and is in English. Not that he needed to change the title considering 'Jubel' was a big hit. Anyway it was really great to see this chart, especially as for whatever reason it was not playlisted by the R1 or Capital. How exactly did this chart then?

Route 94 unofficially removed his one hit wonder status with this remix of Always doing semi-well, also it added to MK's unique chart history of only getting T40 hits by remixing a song or having his own song remixed. Not up with the best of the best in last year's dance efforts but certainly very good and banging.
