One of the best quality national finals from last year is following the same format again this year, although I still feel sad that Madeline Juno didn't get a chance to sing her second song which would've taken her to Eurovision in my opinion!

Eurovision.de have this morning revealed that the seven nationally known artists taking part in this year’s national final will be announced officially this Wednesday, 14th January.

Like in previous years, Record labels Sony, Universal and Warner as well as independent companies and broadcaster NDR were involved in selecting the seven artists who will join one wildcard act, selected from the Clubkonzert on 19th February. (Let’s not forget that last year’s representatives, Elaiza were the wildcard act that went on to win the national final)

Any ideas for who could take part this year? Maybe Lena will return  :heehee:

Helene Fischer please! Although I'm sure they wouldn't let her go through a national final so I doubt it.

Oh shame! I really didn't like the format they did last year. Potential winners of the show weren't even given the chance of being heard on the strength of another song.

Still, the quality of the German final of recent years has been superb so I'm very much looking forward to this!

Well there hasn't been exact confirmation of the format, but the way there is going to be 7 acts + the wild card act just like last year makes me think they are following the exact same format - they could change it up a bit though.

The following seven acts have been confirmed to take part in the German national final by public broadcaster NDR:

Fahrenhaidt

Faun

Alexa Feser

Mrs. Greenbird

Andreas Kümmert

Laing

Noize Generation

The remaining eigth candidate will be chosen on February 19 in a "club concert" featuring promising young artists.

Andreas Kümmert won Germany's The Voice in 2013 iirc:

Never heard of any of the others...

Faun look like they're in the same vein as the likes of Santiano/Oonagh in the Celtic Schlager Rock genre. I'm expecting Iz and myself to enjoy them and that's it.

Mrs. Greenbird won German X Factor in 2012 and this seems to be their winner's song from that:

I absolutely love it, hope they come up with something similar for this national final!

German broadcaster NDR announced the ten young talent acts who will be competing for the wildcard in the national final. The wildcard act will be selected in a Club Concert on 19th February. In this concert, the young promising artists will try to impress the German broadcaster. Last year, Elaiza was the wildcard that eventually won the right to represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The German national final will take place on 5th March in Hanover Arena. The format of the national final remains unchanged as each artist will perform two songs. The winner of Unser Song für Österreich will sing in the Eurovision grand final, since Germany is part of the Big-Five and thus automatically qualifies to the final. The following artists will compete for the wildcard on 19th February in Hamburg. One of them will join the already selected 7 contestants.

Alisson Bonnefoy

Ann Sophie

Ason

Klangpoet

Lars Pinkwart

Lou

Not sure it's the SAME Sophie lmao
we don't joke around here in eurovision forum

Like last year the reveal of these tracks are messy and inconsistent. Some are available in full via YouTube/Spotify and others are just available in snippets from the link here

Fraun - Hörst du die Trommeln is my (and probably Iz's) personal fave of this bunch but it's generally an unspectacular bunch.

I haven't heard them all but Fahrenhaidt have a lot of potential and I do love Mrs. Greenbird too.
