Demis Roussos was a Greek singer and performer who had international hit records as a solo performer in the 1970s after having been a member of Aphrodite's Child, a progressive rock group that also included Vangelis.

He had a unique high-pitched voice with great vibrato.

He sold over 60 million albums worldwide recorded in many different languages.

With Aphrodite's Child he had one UK hit in 1968 - Rain & Tears #29 but had numerous others in mainland Europe.

He had 6 solo hits in the UK - 3 of which went Top 10 including a #1

Here's a few of his hits:

Rain & Tears - Aphrodite's Child #29 in 1968

Solo:

Happy To Be On An Island In The Sun - #5 in 1975

Forever & Ever - #1 in 1976

When Forever Has Gone #2 in 1976

I'll add this one, Break, from 1972, which is laid-back prog-rock jazz-psychedelic brilliance. They did in fact Break up after this, and I'm not even sure Demis is even singing on it, unless he's doing the diddly-dee bits...

Just gorgeous.

He was responsible for providing the lead vocals of one of my favourite songs ever, "The Four Horsemen", of which I will be eternally grateful.
