I've loved this song for a while now and it's been on 1xtra's playlist for a little while but it's R1's TOTD today so I thought I'd make a thread as I did a search and it didn't look like there was already one.

This clicked for me only recently, and it's kind of hard to explain why I love it, because it's goddamn weird and it shouldn't work, but it does. Like, Makonnen's voice is obviously wobbly and unconventional, but there's warmth and empathy to it all the same. And a song about muddling through life and going through the motions and partying to escape sounds like nothing grand, but Makonnen sings it with that voice and it suddenly becomes a really affecting sentiment. He sounds tired, but he's making himself happy anyway. It's weird because a few months ago, my impression was that his voice was the main draw for the weirdness factor and nothing more; it seemed like a generic party track aside from that. But now I actually love it to the point of being moved by it, which is maybe a bizarre reaction to have???

I'm not quite sure what to make of him/this. It's all a bit nondescript but oddly draws you in.
