Posted September 15, 200618 yr From The Sun ColdJay September 15, 2006 JAY-Z is a Brooklyn-born former crack-dealing gangster-turned rap music mogul fond of Cristal champagne and bling. CHRIS MARTIN is a Devon-born devotee of macrobiotic food, drinks fizzy water and wears electrical tape on his fingers. So when I found out the two have been secretly working in the studio together I was pleasantly surprised. I can reveal the COLDPLAY star has been drafted in to help produce and co-write Jay-Z’s comeback album Kingdom Come. Chris’s golden touch and the return of Jay-Z — who claimed he had hung up his mic as a solo artist in 2004 — is a collaboration fans of both Coldplay and rap will want to hear. A source told me: “Chris has been a huge hip-hop fan for years and is really switched on to the scene in America. “He was approached by Jay-Z and jumped at the chance to work with him so he could test himself as a hip-hop producer. He loves a challenge and this has arrived at the perfect time, during a break from Coldplay.†Jay-Z has enlisted some of the biggest names in rap to help produce the album — including KANYE WEST, DR DRE and hitmaker TIMBALAND. Jay-Z, also the boss of the Def Jam label, had codenamed the new album “Project Superman.†While it might seem an unlikely project for Chris, he has earned the right to be mentioned together with rap superstars such as Dre and Timbaland. After all, he wrote EMBRACE hit Gravity and JAMELIA’s See It In A Boy’s Eyes, and has also worked with NELLY FURTADO. He is in such a rich vein of songwriting form he can afford to share the fruits of his labour with artists from all areas of music. Jay-Z, Kanye and Chris were spotted together recently in a Chinese restaurant in London’s West End — no doubt discussing the new album, which is due to be released late this year. I wonder if this could also mean a new showbiz friendship for the music WAGs, Chris’s wife GWYNETH PALTROW and Jay-Z’s girlfriend BEYONCE KNOWLES? Not sure Gwyneth would appreciate Beyonce’s love of animal pelts, though. Personally, I'm not happy :( LifeLight
