BEST PICTURE NOMINEE 4

SELMA

Selma seemed like it would be a big Oscar player but however it only scored nominations in the best picture category and song category for Glory by John Legend and Common. I saw Selma at the cinema yesterday and I thought it was absolutely fantastic film. Even though I didn't think the first 20 minutes were great, when it hit it's stride after that, it excelled completely. I thought David Oyelewo was very good and Carmen Ejojo was also great such as the rest of the cast. It was also great seeing Oprah on the big screen again. The script was great and it was a very interesting and informative film with great music. I loved Selma and i hope it wins best song as it deserves to win an award tonight.

BEST PICTURE NOMINEE 5

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

I do really like The Grand Budapest Hotel though I do find it slightly overrated and I think Wild and Gone Girl should have been nominated instead of this. However the script is fantastic, Wes Anderson's direction is great and the acting is very good, especially from Ralph Fiennes and Saioroise Ronan. The film was a gigantic box office success and it received great reviews. It also managed to stay relevant for a long time considering it was released in March. It should win a few Oscars tonight in the costume/make up kind of categories.

BEST PICTURE NOMINEE 6

THE IMITATION GAME

http://i57.tinypic.com/2n9ewec.jpg

The Imitation Game is an absolutely great film and in my view is a typical film that deserves to be nominated for Best Picture but doesn't deserve to win as it is excellent but not the best of the best. I thought the story was very interesting and it was accompanied by a great script. Benedict Cumberbatch is absolutely fantastic as Alan Turing and he deserves to win the Oscar and Keira Knightly was great as usual. I actually think this could win nothing tonight as I don't know what it would win but i am glad it got nominated for a few awards.

BEST PICTURE NOMINEE 7

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

http://i57.tinypic.com/fw3mdx.jpg

The Theory Of Everything is good. That's about it. It is nowhere near great and is easily the weakest of the best picture nominees. It shouldn't have been nominated and it is quite sad that this got nominated over the stunning and groundbreaking Wild. The script is quite poor and I found it quite confusing as the time going forward was never really that clearly shown- the complete opposite of fellow nominee Boyhood. However Eddie Redmayne and especially Felicity Jones slay in this giving absolutely amazing performances which both deserve to be nominated and they are fantastic in scenes such as Eddie telling Felicity he is not in love with her anymore and the wind back the clock scene. And it is always great to see the always great Maxine Peake pop up in something

BEST PICTURE NOMINEE 8

WHIPLASH

Moving onto one of the best nominees as we reach the fantastic Whiplash in the last of the best picture spotlights. First of all the music is absolutely incredible and electrifying. The script is amazing and the direction by Damian Chazelle is fantastic for a 1st time full feature director I believe. The characters are compelling and Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons both give absolutely fantastic performances as their characters. The film is very good and the ending is great and there are many spectacular twists and scenes in Whiplash. I hope this manages to pick up a few wins tonight including an 100% win for Simmons

I really hope you have enjoyed these spotlights :)
