I saw an advert for this. It's about 5 sets of parents who think hitting their kids is acceptable. I really can't believe they are showing a program about this tbh, I was shocked to see the advert.

I see parents hit their kids and it makes me so angry and upset. You should bring them up properly, tell them what they are doing is wrong and explain why they shouldn't do it, not smack them, which ends up making them scared of their own parents. Parents who hit their kids deserve a good slap themselves. It's just abuse.

Anyway, I won't be watching this.

Anyone elses views??

I was caned at school and I was whipped with a belt by my dad if I was naughty at home as a kid, I think discipline even firm discipline in the home would result in there being a lot less chavs in coming years

Omg, don't say that. It's chavs that hit their kids for a start. How can you agree with it? Children are so small and them getting hit is really wrong.

Personally I think its alright to smack kids. It just shows the kids who is in charge. When I used to be naughty my dad would smack me and it made me think as it fecking killed. :( As long as parents don't cause too much harm when smacking I don't think it does the kids any harm.

I still won't watch this though as I don't really tend to watch stuff like this as there is always better things on Sky at the time this program is showing. ^_^

I'm never going to smack my kids. I want to be a good parent, there's no need to be physical. Maybe years ago it was ok, but nowdays it shouldn't be allowed. If you saw what I see where I live, I think you'd agree with me. It's horrible to watch sometimes. If that's what they do to them in the street, god knows what happens when they get them home behind a closed door.

The reason for the behaviour of chavs is that they are allowed to run riot in the home, in the streets and in school and there is no one that will discipline them because of the risk of being sued or a Childline investigation etc whereas with my generation the cane was normal, step out of line in school and it was lashings with the cane, that don't happen now so there is no fear in chav kids any more in the school so they

they run riot

In my generation the police were allowed to take youths into an alleyway and give them a good clip round the ear if they were being anti social now the worst that can happen to a chav is an ASBO which is a medal of honour anyways, in my day we were $h!t scared of being stopped by the police because we knew we might be beaten by the officer

I don't condone physical violence etc by parents but I see nothing wrong in a mum smacking a kids bottom because they throw tantrums or misbehave etc

But if you bring them up properly then there is no need to resort to smacking.

And it's not always just a smack on the bottom is it...

Not always the case about chavs, I know for a fact they don't all run riot in the home. It's when they get with their friends, in with the bad crowd etc.

Smacking is physical violence though  and theres other ways of telling a kid off then smacking them....

I really can't believe you think lashings with a cane is acceptable, it's inhuman.

I was caned several times at school :o anything from 3-5 lashings on the backside or the palm of the non writing hand and that was the norm in school, if you answered back and swore at a teacher you were caned, if you bullied or got in fights it was the cane, if you were sent out of lessons through misbehaving it was the cane and more often than not when the headmaster phoned my dad up when I got home I would get whipped with a belt or with his slipper for misbehaving in school

Its a totally different era now Lucy but I think that misbehaviour is on the rise in schools now given the 100%+ year on year rise in assaults on teachers and the cane being reintroduced would really help enforce good behaviour in schools

In the last few days your posts have really shocked me.

We're not living in your days when it was ok, can you really see children getting caned nowdays? And you seem all for it. It's abuse, you don't like animal abuse, yet children should be caned? I can't understand you tbh.

And please don't come back and write a huge essay with all the reasons why you agree with it, you make yourself sound worse and worse.

The cane was wrong to begin with! i cant believe you think it should be brought back :o bringing it back would be the worst thing they could do as if children are hit it will encourage them to hit back.....i cant see many 16 r olds being hit with the cane and not responding, it will just make things 10 times worse

Proportionate I mean, I would be disgusted if a kid got the $h!t beaten out of it because of a tantrum but a good firm smack on the backside to show who's boss in the tantrum would be effective that's what I meant, as long as the smacking is not too over the top

'To show who's boss' ? That sounds wrong. Kids will respect their parents if bought up properly, it works two ways though. I remember my dad hitting me, I hate him, no respect for him at all.

I don't think I have got any more extreme in recent days or anything, its just some subjects I have always had strong views on have surfaced but I don't think I have been particularly shocking just more a case of showing my age and because I was bought up with the cane and the concept of the cane and the fact it worked for me and violence was almost unheard of in the school grounds in my school days the fact that the typical comprehensive seems to resemble a warzone these days if the media are correct makes me think that there is a connection between the rise of violent behaviour in schools and the abolition of the cane, the cane put the fear of god into us

I accept that that phrase was in hindsight inappropriate but I still think that parents should reserve the right to smack their kids, there is a fine line between discipline in the home and child abuse I agree hence why I am against the use of unreasonable force

So you want kids to be living in fear?

I would have thought knowing what the cane felt like, you wouldn't want others to go through it...

I still am shocked, some of your posts i've never read anything like it.

I think that teachers have the right to go about their work without being abused verbally or physically, I think that kids have the right to go to school and not be physically or mentally bullied, the cane in my day stamped down ruthlessly on those that physically or mentally abused a child or a teacher, those that behave themselves in school and do not attack teachers and kids have nothing to fear from the introduction again of the cane as they will not be caned as they behave
